The hotel was in a great spot of amsterdam, with walking distance and metro services at your fingertips. The hotel was very clean and the hotel staff was very helpful. The evening was quiet, unlike downtown and we would definitely stay there again!

Excellent location, friendly staff, comforable bed, we had a room roadside and could hear the trams but so tired for exploring didn't bother us. If I went back, would ask for a room canal side, just to get a better view.

The hotel could not be better located really for the tourist. Its in what was described as the best district in Amsterdam and I have no reason to doubt this. It is right on the canal so we could literally pick up a pedalo and start a canal cruise right on the doorstep. There is a tourist info bureau opposite and plentiful shops, bars and restaurants all within walking distance. The airport bus stops right next to the hotel and trams to most areas can be caught within a few hundred yards. The room was lovely, the hotel very clean, friendly and good value for rmoney. I would definitely stay at this hotel on a future visit.

My husband and I are just back from a three night stay at this lovely hotel. On check-in we were upgraded from a standard room to a deluxe room - an unexpected bonus! Our room appeared more spacious than the standards (which I peeked into when their doors happened to be open) with larger, plusher chairs. We had a balcony, with chairs, overlooking the canal. A couple of room notes. The shower and bath were excellent with the ability to preset the temperature. Very nice. The description I read of the room said it had a coffee maker. It had a kettle. Not the same thing at all! There were the usual array of tubes of sugar and instant coffee plus tea but no milk of any sort. The one tiny hiccup was that, in exploring the room, I opened and turned some of the bottles in the minibar - I didn't even lift them out! On our next return to the hotel we were locked out of our room. I went to reception and was told they'd forgotten to swipe my credit card for extras. I explained that I'd turned things in the minibar and there were apologies all round. While I understand the hotels concern at 6 euros for a small bottle of water, I think this could have been handled in a better way. I would highly recommend the hotel. It is in a lovely location, handy to most of the tourist spots but also to some nice parks and shops.

Comentado por Michael, deBrooklyn, el ago 1, 2009
I stayed at this hotel for business reasons and was quite disappointed to pay 22 EUR for 24 hours of internet acccess. It was not for hours of use but just 24 straight hours after initiation, which is ridiculous since people sleep for 8 of those hours. This rate is enormously expensive, especially for the "business room" which should include internet! I gave the hotel a lower overall mark primarily for this infuriating reason. I stayed for 3 nights, so to pay 66 EUR for internet access is just a joke. There wasn't even the option of just purchasing 1 hour worth of internet. Otherwise, the hotel was fine and in a prime location close to everything.

We stayed here for three days in late May 2009. Hotel is in a great spot, although the tram line outside is loud. The service was bad, and we felt unappreciated as guests (we travel all over the world, and are not unreasonably demanding by any measure). Maybe they just don't like Americans. One example is that we ordered wake up calls for three mornings, but they only actaully called us on one of the three, and that call was late by 20 minutes. Another is when we tried to make a dinner reservation on day one. The concierge never called us back, so on day two I called again. Later that day, I received a call confirming my dinner reservation from a male concierge. About ten minutes later I received another call from a female concierge telling me that the restaurant was closed. I pointed out that her male colleague had just called to confirm my dinner reservation - she had no idea who the male concierge was, and informed me that the restaurant was closed. Oner last example is when we needed to buy some different shampoo than was available in the room due to allergies. We went to the front desk and asked if they sold any, answer was no. We then noticed later that they did, indeed, sell shampoo. This would have been no big deal if we had not waled for 20 minutes to buy the shampoo somewhere else.

The hotel is perfectly placed for nightlife, restaurants and bars and realyl is in the centre of The Leidesplein Square. It is a 20 minute walk to Dam Square but through the pleasant shopping district it can take longer because of the window shopping. From Dam Square you have probably another 10 minutes to the red light district, but this time through lots of coffee shops bars and restaurants rather than shops. Hotel was excellent, comfy beds and all very clean. As in all Amsterdam hotels the rooms are not very big. Our intial Standard room was on the top floor and it was raining hard, our roof appeared to spring a leak as a puddle of water was gathering, as soon as maintenance came up to see it we were offered an immediate move and they gave us a suite for our troubles, this was of course very roomy and we were very happy. I would certainly stay here again.

The location is outstanding, right at Leidseplein. Within walking distance from major museums and the canal boats. The hotel itself is a historical landmark with its art-nouveau architecture. My room was in the attic so it was somewhat small, but clean and functional. I really enjoyed staying at this hotel, and if I ever go back to Amsterdam I will probably stay here again.

The Eden Amsterdam American Hotel (shown as American Hotel at the airport shuttle desk)which is confusing--we were. If you take the shuttle use a credit card as the shuttle is unreliable for pick up. The room at the hotel was a little on the small size but the bathroom was large and very clean. The maid service was very good and the bathrom was really cleaned once during our 6 night stay. Take your own soap as the hotel provides only two tiny ones. The restaurant at the hotel is very, very expensive (19 Euros pp for a buffet breakfast). There are a few little shops open for breakfast and much cheaper than the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful; this hotel is also in the center of town and within walking distance to the sights. A tram service runs every few mintues to the central train station and you can catch the tram to other places of interest. All restaurants are within walking distance and are very good.

do not accept a room on mezzanine level ( overlooking a very busy road) if you wish to get any sleep. Room looked lovely but the lumpy pillows and nasty synthetic duvet were a nightmare! And to roiund things off, mini bar fridge buzzed so loud all night we had find some way to turn it off ( which warrented a visit from the room service boss the next morning.) Unfortunate really as we have stayed here before and had a quiet room, comfy pillows and a decent quilt.

I chose to stay in the American Hotel because I had enjoyed my room there last winter. Sadly, this winter, the room provided was absolutely awful. It was extremely dark, with one window that overlooked an air-shaft befouled with bird droppings. The ceiling was very low as well. I felt as if I was staying in a cave! The basic "shower" was in a tub that was very high off the ground and difficult to get into. The bathroom also REEKED of cigarettes although the hotel is entirely non-smoking. When I asked to change rooms, the young woman at the desk refused because I had paid a "very low rate". She offered to upgrade my room for fifty extra euro per night but would not refund the four nights I had prepaid. I was very disappointed with this hotel and will never return to it. Amsterdam is a wonderful city with many other beautiful hotels to choose from.

Lovely hotel with a beautiful dining room. You should definitely have breakfast here. One tip about the rooms though is don't book a Classic American room if space is important to you! Still a good quality room but not enough space to swing a cat!! The next room grade up is so worth the extra supplement - we ended up with a very spacious corner room with large balcony overlooking the fountain at the front of the hotel. Very nice. Location is excellent, right on Leidesplein square which we think is the best area in Amsterdam for access to nice bars, restaurants and shops. It is also very close to the museums and to Vondel park. Overall, we have stayed here before and we will definitely stay here again.

I took a 9 day vacation in Amsterdam and stayed at three seperate hotels. The American was the best. It might be a little pricier than the other hotels, but well worth it. The best customer service, the best room, the best location, and the best beds. Everything is in walking distance and the Leidesplein is at your dorrstep. Late night partying? When everyone's trying to get a cab back to their hotel, you simply walk upstairs and enjoy one of the most luxurious hotels in the Netherlands. Do Amsterdam right: stay at the American!!!

This hotel is actually more impressive than you think it is from the photographs. It is really really lovely and quite impressive. We were allocated a canal view room with a balcony and I can honestly say that the bed in it was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in - including my own. The hotel is expensive but then so is Amsterdam these days. The hotel bar is worth a visit but the mini bar isn't! Staff were very efficient and very friendly. The location of the hotel is excellent - just off the Leidsplein square and about 500 yards from the tram stop. We had a wonderful stay in the American and would definately go back.

I stayed for one night in the hotel. To begin with I was given a very smelly room, which I was able to change. The second room was small and stuffy. I ordered room service. The food arrived cold and undercooked. It took 30 mins to arrive. I decided rather than have an issue with them that night I would report it when checking out. To my surprise the receptionist told me it was too late to complain. No apology was offered, I asked to see Duty Manager. He clearly did not care either. And offered a lukewarm apology. This is not what I had expected from a 4 star hotel. All in all, I think it is overpriced, badly run and too far from the centre.
