Fair size rooms for a reasonable price in the downtown area. Although the property is older, it is kept in good shape and clean.

I came to find out that this is a residential hotel. The rooms were very old, with walls that were peeling, curtains with holes and no bath mat in the tub/shower so I almost slipped and fell. I had to walk 2 blocks to get a cup of coffee. The food in a downstairs dinner restaurant was very good. I do not believe any other women were staying at this hotel, but I felt safe enough.

Upon check-in was told we're being "kicked up". Whatever that meant. An upgrade? We did get a 9th. floor room all the way towards the back which was quiet if not fancy. The painting from the lobby to our room was done very sloppily. This hotel has such potential but the owners are not spending any money on it. There is an Indian restaurant and two bars in the lobby area. Paid parking on both sides of the hotel ($5/day). The best thing about the Stillwell is the location. It is within walking distance to the historic Original Pantry and Clifton's Brookdale Cafeteria plus a wonderful discover: Bottega Louie. The hotel is also surrounded by great deco buildings and theatres.

I could only get two nights in a conference hotel but needed two more nights for the convention. The hotel I was staying at was exorbitantly priced for the same features I got at the Stillwell. The Stillwell's interior doesn't look very nice and most fixtures are from the fifties but it's clean and had everything I needed plus it was much quieter than the conference hotel on Figueroa. The bar and restaurant downstairs was great too. I sat down there and worked while I ate, made friends with the waiters and other patrons. It's a great value but it's on the low end so if you go in with that in mind you'll be happy with your stay.

SPENT TWO nights at Stillwell because original hotel was over booked for my first two nights in LA. After staying the two nights we transfered to other hotel but cancelled after one night and returned to the Stillwell. An excellent stay at a very affordable price.

The hotel was dingy and smelled terrible. Neither the heater nor the toilet worked properly. There was insufficient staff and there was no one Indian restaurant in the lobby when I went down to eat, even though the sign said "Open". If you can afford to pay a few dollars more, I recommend going elsewhere.

The location of the hotel was very good. I wouldn't be able to tell you about the staff because they were hardly there. The rooms are kept clean but I would just suggest replacing the carpeting in the hallways. Excellent view of downtown L.A. Overall I'm satisfied with this hotel and would return.

the hotel was decent and it was $100 LESS than all other hotels in the same area. the lobby/foyer were under construction/remodeling but it jus gave my friend and i something to laugh about. there was no clock, hairdryer, or heater in our room...this was definitely a no frills establishment. but everything was clean and we had what we needed. i would recommend this place to anyone traveling on a budget who doesnt expect "Hilton" amenities for "Motel 6" rates.

Hotel is kind of old, rooms are small, old TV's, but in a pretty good part of downtown LA. Parking is $5 - $10 a night in the near by lots. Proabably the best bargin within easy walking distance of the LAC and Staples center. As long as you don't expect room service and red carpet treatment, this is the best place for the money around this area. Can walk to a near by Starbucks, Ralphs, and Orignial Pantry Restruant.

Well I choose this hotel for its location and it was perfect. When I first walked in all I could think about where the reviews but it really wasn’t that bad. We were greeted nicely, were able to upgrade our room for a cheep extra price and made it safely to our room. The rooms (connected) were ok, the WC and the Shower Room was extremely small but manageable. We had a fridge to which we were happy and we were close to the entertainment to which we had traveled for. So if you need a place to sleep and near, this is your hotel!

Things have greatly improved since my last stay here. The rooms have been updated and this trip the t.v. and the air conditioning both worked....enjoyed the extra of having a small fridge in the room. I also must comment that the staff were much friendlier and helpful. The location is convienient for the purpose of my travel, but in general can be a pretty scary neighborhood at night.

The Hotel is antiquated, but clean. The problem I had is that it seemed to be in great part used as a residential hotel not a guest hotel. The Elevators were unreliable as well. When items such as extra towels or comfort request were asked for, we were told that we should come down stairs to get them ourselves rather then someone bringing them to our room. We were out of town guests at the hotel, not residence of the hotel and I have never stayed anywhere in my life were I felt less comfortable. I do want to say there was one young man who went out of his way for me to some wine I had brought with us, but that was really about it. The cost of the hotel was not that much, but I have learned a valuable lesson in hotel confort. Even thought the hotel is just around the corner from finer hotels, it was not the same or even close to the type of hotels that are in the same area. I would recommend paying a few bucks more down the street at the Hilton or other quaility rooms in the area.

This a hotel that desperately needs to be torn down or completely reburbished. It is old, old, and older. Carpets are stained and/or torn - paint is peeling or repainted on windows and pictures hanging in room - I think it is used also as a weekly and monthly, and , while we never felt unsafe, and the people were friendly, it is not something I would want to experience again.

The room was uncomfortably warm and calls to the front desk met with rude dismissal. Could not sleep due to the temperature in the room which was rediculous because the nighttime temperature outside was quite cool. Even a fan in the window probably would have solved the problem, but the front desk staff were not helpful at all!

I stayed in the hotel for a night. The room is relatively small. Other things seem fine, but what shocks me is the air conditioner. It is very old and does not work... So I did not feel the air was fresh and clean when I slept. The plus is that there are restaurants on the first floor.

the location was great and the surrounding areas had no shortage of things to do. the hotel itself is old and run down but i didnt care because i was trying to stay on a budget and was only thier to sleep. this place is good for young people who want to stay in downtown and expierience the nightlife and still have money to drink after you pay for the room. i would not recomend this motel for kids or the elderly. one guy said the motel was like the shining but i dissagree it was not that bad. also the motel has a bar with good prices and good service that makes you feel at home!

Reception service : Rude, non cooperative attitude, very non accomodating and non professional. Room Service : Have no room service Bedding : Most cheapest and inferior bed sheets and blankets No iron, no microwave, no coffee or tea maker, only one light in the room, TV and cable not working, room interior and other set up so inferior and low standard. No body attends any complaint at the reception. Worst ever room cleaning Wash towels very inferior and untidy. You can not make a long distance phone call using your phone card, you have to deposit $20 first with the hotel for that. Bath and all other fixtures are so inferior and old style.

For being close to the Convention Center the Hotel has excellent prices. You do get what you pay for though. For my stay which I spent most of my time out at the Convention it was right up the alley in price. The staff at the Stillwell are very friendly and do what they can to accomidate you. I was able to extend my stay one more night without any problems. If your visit in LA requires you to be out of the room as mine did then Stillwell Hotel will suit your needs. The beds are a little hard but I have slept on worse.

The hotel needs remodeling. The room was clean, however the T.V was to old and the color was fading in and out.The bed spread had cigarette burns on it.The furniture was something like I've seen in a county run mental hospital. They hotel provided ice buckets, however the ice machine was not in service, broken. The in room refridgerator was not working either. The only good part about this hotel was they had a small little quaint bar with a friendly bartender.I had to dink alot to be able to fall asleep there. Unless they do a drastic remodel and repair the ice machine. The Stillwell will not get repeat customers, at leaste not customers with any class.

The hotel does show its age and is a little bit "shabby", but our room was very clean, and housekeeping service was excellent. Great water pressure in the shower. The location was very good for walking to the places we needed to go, and we felt safe doing so. Parking is separate, in an independent lot - cost us $15 for 3 days.

My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel for New Years Eve and it was not a pleasant experience. We chose the hotel for its proximity to one of the only 18+ nightclubs in LA which didn't even let us in because he was wearing white shoes! Anyway, the hotel has people living in it and should reallly be considered an apartment. The three nights we were there we could here the person next store through the dividing door, literally. We heard his phone conversations, his tv program and a bunch of other things. We were woken up early in the morning by his smoke detector and smoke came into our room. Don't be fooled by this hotel's proximity to downtown it's not worth it. We weren't the only one's fooled, while we were there all of the elevator conversations were about the luxurious (yeah right!) hotel. This is the only hotel I've encountered on hotels.com that just isn't worth what it costs.
