Great place with huge rooms and giant beds. The staff were very helpful. The hotel is in a great location, only a short walk to all the bars/shops/restaurants in Georgetown. Its also just down the road from all the major sights. Plus the Metro is only around the corner if it all gets too humid!

The location is great, the hotel, not so great. The rooms are very outdated, the bedding is uncomfortable, lighting is non-existent. Our airconditioning leaked onto the carpet sporatically. There was mold on the ceiling of the bedroom The rooms could use updating and a makeover. I do not think we will stay here again.

Location was great and a 5 min walk to the metro. Easy to walk to many restaurant in georgetown. The breakfast buffet in the hotel was expensive, but we got it included in the deal. May consider eating at bakery next door. hotel was very nice for the price. Especially with the 7day hotels.com discount. Front desk staff was very helpful suggesting eats and things to do.

The hotel's location was beyond great. Close to everything and very convenient if taking Metro. The room was comfortable and large. There was a mini refrigerator hidden in the desk we were unaware of until a couple days into our stay. The only complaint was that we had booked two beds since there were three of us but the room only had a king size bed. We didn't complain since our son thought it was cool to sleep on the couch.

This hotel has a fantastic location and friendly staff. They let me check in early, which was much appreciated. It is a few blocks from the metro and right next door to some convenience stores. It wasn't very quiet, though, and they don't have parking, so if you bring a car or will be spending a lot of time in your room, this probably isn't the best place. It was a fantastic place, though, for a place to rest after quite a busy day!

I stayed with my two children 11 & 13 for six nights to see all the national sights and the museums. The hotel is in walking distance to the White House and the National Mall. The room was very nice and kept nice and clean by the room service despite my children's best efforts. The negative points are: Eating at the Hotel is quite expensive. We paid about $52 for a breakfast buffet for the three of us. WiFi is charged at $9.99 per day. Should you have a car parking at the hotel will cost you $43 per night. We had a car for two days and I parked in the surrounding area, which cost me $25 in fines. Altogether a brilliant hotel with great service with price tags to match.

Got a good deal booking early and with a hotels.com 10% off coupon + 20% off deal on a five-night stay. The Melrose Hotel is in an excellent and relatively safe area, convenient to the Metro, coffee shops, restaurants, markets, and is within walking distance of Georgetown and the National Mall. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Hotel is in an excellent location for visiting Washington DC. It is close to the metro and bus tours. The only issues we had were with trying to order room service. Had to call repeatedly to get someone to answer the phone. Other minor complaints were lack of good tv channel selections, having to pay nightly for wireless internet access for two laptops, and selection of food for in-room dining. There was a mold spot on the ceiling in our room. For the money though, it was good and the staff, when available, were friendly.

The hotel is in a great location and the cost per night was affordable compared to other hotels in the area. Was disappointed with the cost associated with internet access. The hotel could use a little touch up painting. Overall, it's a very good place to stay. I've used the hotel before, and will use it again.

We were very happy with the quality of our room - updated and very clean. If you put a debit card on file, however, beware. They charged over $300.00 to my account in "precautionary" fees that were put back into my account a few days after my stay, but weren't disclosed to me in the first place. When I noticed them after checking my account online, I called the hotel for three days straight and never received a return phone call from anyone. Needless to say, the service leaves something to be desired, but the hotel itself is a great little place right in Georgetown.

Upon arrival at the Melrose the hotel looked beautiful, however all good feelings stopped there. The front desk clerks(both of them) could not have been more rude. It was as if our check-in totally put them out and to top it off they gave us the wrong room so we had to go back and request a change. The correction was made with some delay, dead stares and disdain. Not once did they say excuse our mistake or sorry for the mix-up or delay. Do they not like having hotels.com customers? At first I thought their rudeness might have been attributed to the fact that I am female, but no, I witnessed the condescending and rude treatment of a male guest. Now on to the hotels restaurants....Do not eat there! The food is so overpriced and frankly not worth it. We ate at 3 great, reasonably priced places within 1 to 2 blocks. The Melrose's breakfast/brunch was overpriced, the host Rude and woefully understaffed. Our room was nice. A little worn but comfortable. My main objection to this facility was/is the rudeness of the front desk clerks and host of their Landmark dining facility. They set the tone of a hotel and customers stay and it was horrible. Do not stay here.

My husband, daughter, son and I recently stayed in a king suite at The Melrose. The very large suite provided ample room for the 4 of us. We brought along an air mattress so that our teenagers didn't have to share the pull-out sofa. The room was comfortable, well appointed and clean. The small fridge allowed us to keep a few small items cold. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The location for us was perfect: short walk to the Metro and to Georgetown, less than a mile to the Lincoln, Viet Nam, World War II, etc., Memorials and the White House. We had the "king suite with breakfast for 2" deal which allowed us to take turns eating in the hotel restaurant and eating cereal in the room for breakfast. I will recommend this hotel to friends and family.

My granddaugter and I booked a room at the Melrose. The room was very clean, and the fitness center was adequate. The restarant was for breakfast and we even used room service to help get us out the door in the morning. We were a couple of blocks from the Metro which was great and a couple of blocks from Georgetown. We ate at various restaurants at Georgetown and walked back. At night I had a chance to meet with family in the bar at the hotel. We sat at an outside table and had incredible desserts along with our port. I selected the hotel because of the great price and was thrilled that it was such a great place to stay.

Nice older hotel in great location. Close to Metro and walking distance to monuments and museums if you can't find location directly in. Made a few walking trips to Georgetown shopping district (very nice). Five of us in same room. Staff provided us with a roll-a-way bed for our third child. Decent sized room, but needs some attention to details. Small bathroom with adjacent pedestal sink (too small for more than one person) Would stay again just for the location if something else wasn't available in same area. Fair price for the area.

The hotel is conveniently located near the metro; just two blocks from the Foggy Bottom Metro stop. The hotel staff were cordial and the reservation staff knowledgeable and helpful. We purchased the breakfast buffet with the room for convenience. However, we stayed at the hotel for a week and the same items were served on the breakfast buffet every day. The hotel should vary some of the buffet items to provide variety. The rooms were very spacious. We had two double beds and there was also a sofa with coffee table, a separate area for the desk, and two closets.

The location is excellent, the hotel and rooms are attractive, and the room price is reasonable for DC. Other pluses: the Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro stop is only 2-1/2 blocks away and a bus stop omly a few doors down; a very good deli for informal eating-in or taking-out also is just a few doors down. The negatives: the service in the 'restaurant' is slow and the menu very limited, and the buffet is poor and grossly over-priced -- we patronized each only once; one has to carry or drag luggage up 4 or 5 stairs to get to the elevators -- not even a ramp for wheelchairs!; the valet parking (underground) was more expensive than in mid-town Manhattan(!), and there is no access to one's car. Our family of four stayed at the Melrose because it was well located, had a king suite with a sofa bed in the next room, and we got a good price here on hotels.com (a site we use often). The staff was always professional, and the location was fairly convenient for bus and subway rides to the major attractions. All that said, I would recommend finding a different hotel. The main reason I say is that the low price on the room is deceptive. There are many hidden expences that come from staying here. Parking is $35 a night plus tax, and there is simply no other place to park. This fee is not on the website. Internet access is $10 a day per computer. The Best Western we stayed on on the road home gave us free access, of course. If you want a roll away cot, it is $30 a night. We got this item at the Best Western for $10. The room service and restaurant are ridiculously expensive. A bagel is $6 plus fees, taxes, and gratuity. The cheapest buffet was $15 plus tons of fees and not so good. We went out for breakfast every day to a cute place called Bread and Chocolate, but this place is three blocks away and is not for the cheapskate. When you come, you will have to tip both the valet who gets your bags in and out of the car, as well as the bellhop who takes things to your room. No self service here. There is a tiny refrigerator in the room, but don't trust it. And the nearest market to buy your own food is fairly far and expensive. Finally, this place was in serious need of some updating. For a hotel with a five star staff and five star prices, it needed a lot of help. Everything, from the walls to the clock radio to the carpet, screamed to be sent back to 1982 to die. If you are doing this trip on an expense account, perhaps you should find a nicer place to drop a lot of cash. If you are a family, perhaps you should look for a Best Western.

We arrived one hour early for check in tired after travelling from New York, but were upgraded to a family suite as our room wasn't quite ready. The room was great but the only down side was the folding single bed which was unusable due to the thick vinyl cover and the way it wouldn't lie flat. The rest of the family agreed to make do with this as the rest of the room was great with seating area, dining area and even a little office with desk etc. There was plenty space to walk about in the room so you didn't feel you were living on top of each other, and other than a bad stain on the carpet, it was kept nicely. I often think it's the staff in these hotels that make the difference overweighing any minor problems, and this was certainly the case here. Overall, a very enjoyable stay!
