Hotel Carlton - Bilbao

When we arrived at the Hotel Carlton, I was amazed at how great it was. We knew it was rated 5 stars, but I figured that at the price we paid, it must be very run done. I was totally wrong. The hotel was beautiful, luxurious, historic, and the staff was very nice and helpful. The room was large, the bathroom beautiful and well appointed. The only small thing I would complain about is that the beds were on the hard side, which is typical for all Spanish hotels except the most Americanized ones. For our purposes it was very well located. We could walk to the river and to the old part of the city very easily, as well as all the major shopping areas. In our guide book, it was at the very center of the Bilbao map. The other big benefit to us was that it was right on the Plaza Moyua, where the inexpensive bus to the airport stops. The airport trip only took about 10 minutes from there. I highly recommend it.

Good quality, clean hotel, centrally located.

Overall I found this hotel to be pretty good. The location was ideal for the business I was doing and the hotel was pretty nice. The only issues were that the "king sized bed" was just two single beds pushed together and I could hear quite a bit of noise from other rooms.

I booked the Carlton for a couple of nights as I knew it was handy to everywhere and it looked so nice. It was supposed to be 5 star and didn't cost much for that on the internet. The building is lovely, and the staff were friendly, but I'd say it lacked something as there were so few guests. I also found it a bit noisy - on the first night because of traffic and general Saturday night revelry and the following night because of an idiotic American or Canadian guest in the next room who spoke on the phone all night and the noise carried really easily. The key did not work for the gym centre, and it was really cold. If you had a room away from the road and more considerate neighbours, this is a nice hotel, and though some people have said it is not 5 star, the room was enormous and there was nothing wrong with it. As is often the case, it cost far less than something similar in UK.

What a lovely hotel, great location, friendly staff, extremely clean, modern and well priced. When i return to Bilbao i will stay here. Its close to the shops, the old town etc.... delighted with this hotel.

The historic building was beautiful; as was the lobby and the rooms were very large, comfortable, and well appointed. Great location in heart of Bilbao. But despite the physical beauty and comfort, services were rather disappointing. The reception desk was often busy and not very welcoming when assistance was sought; getting access or our car was a nightmare, and the hotel breakfast was overpriced and not very good. Breakfast hours were not convenient. Hotel seems to rely on its location and the building rather than on customer service.

Mycket bra läge centralt. Ok rum och service men ej lyxkänsla som stjärnorna antydde. Spa var att ta i- fanns dock gym. Helheten drogs ner mycket av att städerskor kom in utan att knacka flera gånger samt packade till oss (inklusive våta kläder) dagen innan vi skulle åka. Obehaglig upplevelse som visserligen receptionen beklagade när vi checkade ut.

Cet hôtel a un emplcement idéal pour visiter Bilbao. Les chambres sont grandes et confortables. Celle où nous avons séjourné était bruyante et nous entendions les bruits de la rue de façon très nette. C'est le seul "point négatif". Très beau buffet de petit déjeuner, varié et copieux.

Le Carlton de Bilbao est un véritable hôtel 5 étoiles avec la qualité afférente à cette catégorie d'établissement. Les chambres sont très spacieuses et confortables, meublées avec goût. Les petits déjeuners méritent d'être pris en salle de restaurant vu la richesse du buffet; en effet le déjeuner continental servi en chambre n'est pas extraordinaire.
