I booked this hotel at the last minute and loved its arty feel and atmosphere as soon as I saw the hotel foyer and the spacious reception. Lots of space, nice renovations and a great bar below - "the Carbon bar". The location was excellent and close to shopping and my business meetings. You also have the Marble Arch tube station just below for easy access. The bars are excellent dripping with euro style and comfort, especially great after a long days work load or shopping. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes a difference!

The hotel is very centrally located with good bus connection around the corner. It is also easy to take walks to Hyde Park and beyond. The disadvantage was that they only had a breakfast buffet and no menu a la cart. The price of the buffet might be good but for people who do not eat that much is was expensive.

I booked at the Cumberland (Marble Arch location) for the convenience and because it looked like a nice place at a reasonable rate. The convenience paid off as we were tired upon arriving in London. When walking into the lobby it was clear this was a unique hotel. It had a modern feel. They gave us a complimentary upgrade without asking, which was wonderful as we were on our last night of our honeymoon (I don't think they knew that though). The room was amazing and had no resemblance of those small, antiquated rooms you expect when in a high rent district like central London. Great experience. Would definitely stay here again.

We arrived at the hotel to find lots of friendly staff ready to check us in even though it was a busy Friday night and the lobby was full. Although we had already booked and paid for a double room, we were upgraded to a kingsize as no non smoking rooms were clean at the time and they did not want us to have to wait. Very helpful, polite and friendly staff made us feel welcome. The room was fabulous, lovely contempory design, comfy bed and excellent power shower in the bathroom. We will definately stay again, such a good local as well.

The bedroom was small and claustrophobic, the decor was out of date, the ensuite had no bath tub and was a small shower room with a toilet behind the door and a transparent door... all in all it was a complete rip off and we would have been better off staying in a 2 star hotel. The service was terrible, the staff were very inefficient. All in all it was a bad experience

For convenience to shops and restaurants, you're unlikely to find a better locaion. Oxford St . is only a few minutes away, as is Marylebone High St ( a much less frenetic shopping experience with a myriad of small shops, cafes and restaurants). For the more culturally inclined, the Wallace Collection is a short walk and well worth a visit.. There are plenty of decent restaurants nearby. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable with decently sized rooms (at least for London). although the bathroom was a bit on the small side, with not a lot of self space. But the fittings etc were modern and of good quality. The decor is ultra-modern with contemporary paintings and sculptures throughout the pubic areas. The lobby, though, I found to be somewhat large and impersonal. Customer service was impeccable and dinner in the Brasserie was extremely good. A very positive hotel experience and I would most definitely return.

We booked the Cumberland on the pretence the room we were going to get was like the photographs on the website. Sadly it wasnt. The designer seemed to be having an 'off day' in the room we stayed in. Also we came in from a day of shopping to find the maid had left the window open all day resulting in the room feeling like the Ice hotel in Sweden rather than a romantic hotel in London. Dont think we'd go back unless we got to choose our room personally

We got an okay room for the money. However, the sheets were dirty (a piece of chocolate - I hope it was chocolate - must have been washed and pressed into the bottom sheet - yuk), the lamps attached to the headboard had one missing, clothes press didn't work and, as we went out one morning I put a Do Not Disturb card on our door...5 minutes later I went back to get something and the cleaners where in our room anyway!!! We arrived late at the hotel (around 1:45am). I discovered the dirty sheets just as I was about to go to bed. The concierge came up with a new sheet and just handed to me...there I was making my bed at 3am! Thanks! I would have to call this hotel a 2-3 star. Room looks cool and modern....but when you look a little closer, it's dingy...the lobby is messy. Plus...TERRIBLE WATER PRESSURE and our shower dripped!!! I think they label this as a "boutique hotel"...it is far from that!! I've stayed in boutique hotels before, this does not come close!

The hotel was lovely, clean and felt very fresh inside. The room we had was by no means spacious but very comfortable and well fitted. We went to see Wicked at the Victoria Apollo which is just a short taxi ride away.

Overall the hotel is in a great area, central location, close to the underground and the central line. However, the decor, while trendy, is really uninviting. The lobby is cold and the bathrooms, while very hip looking, are hard to use. Service, especially housekeeping needs a lot of help. They kept taking our ice bucket away, and when we requested another one, looked at us like they didn't understand. They never understand as well two people need two sets of towels, not just two pieces. We also had a problem with their internet. We bought it one day at a lower price, and by check out, they raised the prices, and charged us the higher rate, and it took forever with the manager to sort out. But for a cheap price, its in a great location, close to shopping and Oxford Street.

The hotel is extremely modern in a weird way. Weird sculptures in the lobby and a video of dancers jumping on a trampoline in slow motion in the lobby. Odd blue lighting in hallways. Reminded me of an insane aslyum you'd see in movies. It was easy to get lost as every direction you went looked exactly the same. Beds were really comfy but heater didn't work. Called lobby 3 times for space heater and they never came. Finally on the fourth contact we got one. Fire alarm went off at 2am..we were evacuated but nothing was said of what happened.

I had no heat in my room and the last night the bath lights went out. I think the hotel is so big (1k rooms i think) that they just cant handle it technichly. Only good think is location but there are so many close to Oxford street that i would choose a smaller more personall hotel.

Booked 2 doubles. Both were very nicely furnished. One had a stunning view of the Marble Arch, so close I could of hit it with a coin. The other had broken heating and not so nice view but very big. Hotel is right on Oxford St. Lots of shopping and resturants minutes away. (Start exploring around Oxford Circus for some great places to eat.) Train stop is literally 20 steps from the door. Overall very satisfied. One word of advice: Bring your own clock because there is not 1 clock anywhere in this place. According the the front desk "Clocks are against their phylosophy". GO figure.

Arrived at Hotel and just like other reviews it is very modern. My wife and I got to the hotel about an hour before check in and they told me that my room was not ready. The lady at the front desk asked if I would like a room on the 7th floor or a room on the 1st floor. I stated that I would like the one on the 7th so she told me that my room would not be ready until the 2 pm .. I went out for a quick bite to eat and came back and they tried to tell me that my room is ready and it would be on the 1st floor. I was a bit flustered because they didn't know what they were doing but in the end she called up to room service and they said my room was ready, but in their system it stated that it was not.. When I got up to the room it was so tiny I could barely fit my luggage in there. Not like the picture they show at all .. The hotel hallways seemed like an old hospital hallway. The room was fairly clean but there were stains all over the carpet. I didn't want to walk around barefoot so I put on some slippers and made sure I didn't touch the carpet. I would not stay here again but not knowing London that might be a 4 star level considering the age of the hotel and city.. the best thing was that it was in a great location..

The hotel was modern tipe, but me and my friends had a feeling of cheapness and simplicity. The loby area was interesting, because of design features, but something was missing... I wouldn't give 4 star for this hotel. Very basic and NO breakfast included in price!!! Rooms were too small and unconfortable, but bedding was great. Hotel stuff suggested us one restaurant and club, but each of them was disaster - don't trust to hotel stuff advices!!! We ate outside. Lovely restaurants and bars are located at London's very centre! Late at night we needed to take a bus or walk back to hotel because taxi don't take passangers for such an short distance....but there is lot's to walk! Overall, we won't choose the same hotel again, as it wasn't value for money.

I thought the hotel was quite impersonal. It was already expensive and then they wanted to charge 30 GBP for an upgrade and I was happy not to have done that because the room was fine for one. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Do not pay for the bugget breakfast if it is not included in the cost of the room. It is definitely not worth it! The location is very good, but you have to eat all your meals out because the several restaurants in-house are not affordable to the average person. Check your e-mail across the street in the small shop for 3 GBP an hour to save. One more thing, the hotel's elevators were down for the entire Sunday morning. I felt really sorry for some who were struggling on the stairs.

We stayed here for one night as we were eating at Rhodes W1 (Fantastic everyone should eat here at least once). As it was a treat for us we upgraded our room. The staff at reception were rude. Firstly we were given a room not in the main building ( you had to walk out of the entrance down and across the road. yet we were told it was less than two seconds away. I was told that no other room was available. It turns out that the room was in the basement , dark and austere with no natural light. THe receptionist in the annex was rude and more interested in chatting with a colleague than sorting out the problem. It was only after going back to the main hotel and speaking to guest relations that I managed to get another room above ground (small but at least it did not feel like a bunker).

A good location for Selfridges and the joys of Marylebone High Street, but cold and impersonal, more like an airport than a hotel. As far as my room (single): while overall it was clean, the carpet was stained & dirty, the bed was very comfortable but I had to request another pillow as it was so thin & flat. I asked for a bathrobe and this came very crumpled and un-ironed; the hairdryer very heavy and with a very short cable, necessitating squatting on the floor to use it. The bathroom, a homage to the glass and mirror industry;it was certainly not designed for a woman; towel rail placed over the loo and too high, no shower cap with the otherwise nice products, but, the worse aspect of the whole room is the fixed head shower. A disaster! In order not to soak the entire room, you need to get in & close the door before turning it on, hence a long cold shivery blast while you juggle the control! And, who thought it was a good idea to put a mirror behind the glass basin, clearly reflecting the not quite so pristine parts of the its plumbing! It would have been nice not to have had to stare at the clothes in the wardrobe, too, a door, maybe? A mini bar would have been nicer than that scruffy white fridge. Plus points? good location, nice helpful staff. Would I stay again? Probably not..back to the Hilton for me!

The only thing I did not like was the bathroom. A bit too modern. Sink was too far away from the mirror and had bad lighting so doing things like shaving-for me and applying makeup-for my wife, were not easily accomplished. Also the shower contains no ledges to store product or toiletries. You put your soap in a 3" diameter cupped dish attached to a rail in mid air. Not so terrible but for the fact that a drain hole would prevent the soap from melting in the water. No other complaints otherwise.
