Starhotels Excelsior - Boloña

We chose this hotel from 2 because the other hotel had a review that cautioned that the AC was poor. Unfortunately, the AC in this hotel room was EXTREMELY poor. It was so hot in the room that we couldn't wait to get outside in the heat where there might be a breeze! We also found the staff somewhat attitudinal.

Great location, close to the train station and with a great walk to the piazza. Very clean and kind of mod hotel with great views and wonderful amenities and good breakfast! A perfect stay for those coming to Bologna by train.

Good service in general, very clean room, good breakfast. However one is asked to sign a form to state that passport details are to be kept and passed onto their hotel chain, otherwise cannot stay at hotel...Not exactly optional then.

Being in transfer from abroat to Bologna Airport, and to another city, this hotel is perfect. Very close to railway station and airport buses. And the hotel is efficient, modern and with very nice staff. Very nice with high quality breakfast Perfect for my travel needs.

The hotel is located right opposite the station which makes it ideal to travel from the airport (via the aerobus) and for day trips out to other cities. It is in walking distance to all sight seeing attractions and within 5 minutes to the shops. The location is what made the hotel the ideal choice. I always felt security was not an issue. The hotel staff exceeded my expectations and were more than happy to offer help and their experience. The rooms were slightly out dated however it was clean and comfortable. The lobby was very modern so the entrance was very nice. Only thing about the rooms is that the chairs were very uncomfortable. The restaurants in the hotel were too expensive however this was not an issue as there were plenty of restaurant even within 5 minutes walking distance. The biggest downfall was their breakfast. There really was not much to eat, and even more so restricted if you are a vegetarian. The menu was exactly the same every day! Yes I enjoyed my stay, would recommend it but watch out for the comments made above. Would I stay there again ... let's just say I wouldn't not stay there again.

We were extremly pleased with our stay in this hotel. It is right opposite the train station so great for day trips. It is a 10 min walk down a shop lined street to the central piazza, with lots of great restaurants around the area. The hotel staff were great - especially Pierangelo on the bar - who had some great recommendations - and poured great drinks! Our room was great - very spacious, very quiet, good beds, great bathroom with power shower. Breakfast was also great.

The hotel's location was very good. Straight across the road from the train station - but don't worry, it was perfectly quiet. It was easy to catch the bus from the airport and just walk across the road. It is then only a short walk to the centre of town. The hotel is very modern and our room was really comfortable The buffet breakfast was also good. We would definitely stay here again.

we stayed at the Starhotels Excelsior to see bologna but also as a base for travel by train to other cities in the region. it couldn't have been in a better location, across the street from the station. spacious comfortable rooms, excellent service (a business hotel) and great amenities (like enough electrical outlets). a reasonable walk to downtown (20 minutes is about right), excellent restaurant recommendations from the front desk. good deal from hotels.com. when we go back to bologna we'll try to stay there again.

This Hotel is basically perfect, the rooms are great especially the beds and the choice of pillows! and the excellent shower which even has a rather pleasant 'massage function'! The staff were awesome, even the cleaners said good morning, how are you? Perfect English spoken, very helpful and knowledgable (staff not the cleaners). Breakfast was simple but effective and again we couldnt complain about anything except for maybe slightly luke warm scambled eggs but that is really scraping the barrel. The location is bang opposite the central train station and less than 10 minutes from the centre so it makes getting from the airport particularly carefree by way of the Aerobus which takes about 20 minutes. Bologna was intented to be a base which would allow us to see Venice, Parma and Marenello (Ferrari Galeria!) and we had no great expectation of Bologna itself but were proved very wrong. I didnt hear another English voice and yet there were Irish bars, and even an English Pub or two which, should you want to, you can smoke in as they have a seperate smoking room (a rare treat). Five Stars really enjoyed it PS we went in February so it may be a different story if you go in the summer.

Please don't miss this hotel on your next trip to Bologna. It is unbelievably convenient, from the airport, take the AEROBUS (€5 per person), takes 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic, when you get off the bus at the central station, cross the street and check-in to the hotel.....it really is that convenient. the hotel itself is top class, the staff were friendly and helpful and spoke perfect English, they even understood most of my Italian! .Rooms were immaculate and well equipped, tea/coffee facilities, satellite TV(plus another one in the bathroom, my son was SO impressed!, Breakfast was included and was generous, although I prefer to have access to large amounts of coffee in the morning. A ten minute stroll will take you to the city centre and all it's treats. There were a few characters around but I never felt uncomfortable or threatened, usual city safety applies.

* They offer a "Do not disturb" notice to hang on the door, but cleaning personnel do not pay attention to that in order to knock the door and use their keys to enter. They rather use a screen at reception that monitors if any guest has his/her keycard inserted in the room's slot on the wall: if keycard's not inserted, it means the guest is out, and personnel enters the room. This is unacceptable. * There were no instructions whatsoever as to how to use the phone: number to dial outside of hotel I had to guess, for example. * They're proud to offer sleep-well pillows---they actually produced me a neckache, not to mention the (king size) bed was uneven and not firm enough. * Other than these things, the hotel is enjoyable

Air Con quite noisy, not many Engish TV Channels and breakfast not great

This modern hotel is located near the train station and is very comfortable. After staying in old, retro-fitted hotels in Italy, it was a nice break to have a large modern room with a firm bed and good AC. The staff where very attentive.

Greta location... walking distance to everything. Very clean facilities! Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff! Nice cribs for infants/ young children! We'll definitely return!

My husband and I were disappointed that the room was not clean. The tub had dirt rings around it as well as the sink. Although, the price was decent considering the location, we just expected the room to be clean.

Struttura in generale più che soddisfacente, servizio impeccabile, cortese e puntuale, buona posizione rispetto alla fiera, ottima colazione. Unico neo il parcheggio, impraticabili quelli pubblici a causa della vicinanza con la stazione ferroviaria, particolarmente costoso quello dell'hotel.

Großes, sauberes und gut geführtes Hotel direkt am Bahnhof, Anreise mit dem Auto etwas problematisch (keine direkte Hotelanfahrt, Parkgarage mit knifflger Einfahrtsmöglichkeit, bewacht, klein und deshalb nicht ganz billig)

Jeg bodde på Starhotels Excelsior sammen med ei vennine i 5 netter i juni 2009, og har stort sett bare positive ting å si om hotellet. Servicen var kjempebra, og alle vi var i kontakt med i resepsjonen snakket bra engelsk, så kommunikasjon var ikke noe problem. Hotellet ligger sentralt plassert, rett ved jernbanestasjonen, og det gikk også masse busser rett forbi. Det var bare et par minutter å gå bort til en av hovedgatene i Bologna, Via dell'Independenza, og denne kunne vi følge ned til de mest sentrale delene av sentrum, en spasertur på ca 10-15 min. Hotellet ligger rett ved en traffikert gate, men vi hadde et stort, romslig og komfortabelt rom ut mot en hage på baksiden av hotellet, og på den siden av hotellet var det veldig rolig. Rommet var veldig bra lydisolert, vi hørte knapt en lyd, hverken utenfra, eller fra gangen og rommene rundt oss. Det var også et veldig velfungerende air-condition anlegg på rommet, så det var behagelig temperatur inne, uansett vær og temperatur ute. Rommet var veldig rent, og det ble vasket/ryddet og håndklær ble byttet hver dag. Det eneste negative som kan sies om hotellet er at det kunne vært bedre utvalg av pålegg etc. ved frokosten. Det var mye kaker ol, men ikke så godt utvalg i sånn mat som vi er mer vant med til frokost i Norge. Men når det er sagt, vi hadde ikke noe problem med å spise oss mette til frokost hver dag i løpet av vårt 5 dager lange opphold. :-) Starhotels Excelsior kan absolutt anbefales på det varmeste!

Helt OK hotell, snygg design, vänlig service

The hotel is actually the first thing that you will see if you go to Bologna by train. It is very easy to get and very comfortable hotel. Breakfast was a bit poor but I definitely stay there again if I go to Bologna one more time. My wife and I really enjoyed staying there.

A classy hotel, well worth it's four stars and the price tag. Everything was clean and the staff was very helpful. The room we got had a walk in closet (however, I don't think that was standard) and a bath tub. If there was anything negative to say about this hotel, it would be regarding the breakfast. If was quite good, but maybe a bit on the boring side.

Hotel moderne personnel aimable mais sans excès, parlant correctement anglais voire français pour certains d'entre eux. Les chambres sont relativement petites mais propres, bien décorées, et avec une bonne isolation sonore. Bon séjour dans l'ensemble, le point noir a été le petit déjeuner du dimanche.. 20 minutes d'attente pour avoir une table! ma femme a commandé un coca, qu'on nous a gentiment demandé d'aller chercher au bar deux étages plus haut, car ils n'en avaient plus en bas.. Cerise sur le gâteau, les clémentines étaient pleines de vers. Ce qui n'a pas eu l'air d'émouvoir les personnes à qui nous en avons fait la remarque.!
