I was in DC for tourism and this hotel served the full purpose. Its clean, feels very safe and conveniently located in central DC. Chinese restaurants are nearby too. The only drawback is lack of breafast and free internet!

On my trip, I took along my 11 months old, my 7 year old and my 9 year old, so it was a challenge in the first place. We had a longer than expected trip down, and once we got to the hotel, it was raining. Once I wrangled the three children and all their things into the room I was immediately put at ease. The room was clean and large enough for the four of us. The bathroom was very large, the room was quiet (quiet enough for my 11 month old to sleep through the night in a pack and play). The only negative was the parking. I found out once I got there that there was a daily fee for parking - about the same that you'd pay in a garage. Knowing that ahead of time would have taken the sting out of it.

We really liked the location. You could easily walk to the Mall in less than 15 minutes. For $20 per night we kept the car right in the garage under the building. The surrounding area got a little lively at nights, but we felt safe. The room was nice and clean. No problems for us. We'd stay again.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el ago 12, 2009.
For the price, this is about the best Red Roof Inn you can imagine. In other words, we're not talking about a 5 star resort; we're talking about an elite example of a mid-priced palce. Metro is only two blocks away and you're near DC's Chinatown, hockey/basketball arena, and Gallery Place neighborhood (lots of restaurants, bars, and clubs, albeit mostly chains). All in all, this is a very fair deal considering Washington's rapidly escalating cost of hotels.

The hotel had a parking garage which was pay to park, but it was very secure and not badly priced for downtown DC. They allowed me to stay in the parking garage even after checking out so that I could site see before I left, and they didn't even charge me for that day. Unfortunately internet wasn't free, which was really the only negative thing I have to say about the place. The people there were helpful and friendly.

This is a very run down, worn out hotel. The rooms are small and poorly laid out. Worn out furniture, mattresses and carpet. Cheap towels and bathroom amenities. Poor lighting, charge for internet service. The only positive thing about this hotel is its location in Chinatown for tourists and proximity to a Metro stop. I travel to DC every week and I will never use this hotel again.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el jul 18, 2009.
There are very few parking lots or garages near this hotel. Depending on what is going on at the Verizon Center, there may be no parking at all. That requires street parking and you must monitor your meter. This was very challenging. The night staff were pretty unwilling to help problem solve. But the neighborhood was friendly and the people were nice.

As a former backpacker thru the Europe, the Middle East and India, I am accostomed to cheap places to lay my head. I looked for the least expensive place in DC and Red Roof was it. The room was very comfortable by my standards and the only drawback at all was the A/C unit made too much noise when the compressor came on. The good side was that it worked and the room was quite cool. It was walking distance to Union Station, where I gravitate while laying over in DC - and walking distance to the National Mall and museums. (Note: I walk long distances all the time, a couple of miles is no big deal for me.) My previous two overnight visits to DC were at the Holiday Inn by the National Mall. This hotel lacked some amenities, such as a computer room but it was comfortable and convenient and it would be a choice again.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el may 25, 2009.
I paid a much higher price to stay at this property than I did two nights prior in Times Square in NYC! The front desk staff, unfortunately, feed into a number of stereotypes that many people have about Middle-Eastern help. They were much more interested in taking phone calls than waiting on customers they already had, and some of the hotel's policies border on illegal. Maybe some of that is because of the chain's policies, but all the same, I found them to be unacceptable. And, lastly, the fact that I would have to pay for free internet in this day and age, is absurd. It's not like the hotel was better in any way because they charged me for internet connectivity, so they didn't have to skimp on something else. Fail.

a short 1-1/2 block walk to the verizon center, and in the middle of china town. It was the best combination of price and location - I was looking for proximity to the verizon center, which is right across from the National Portrait Gallery, and next to the Spy Museum. The area wasn't too desirable, plenty of requests for money as we walked. Problems: My friend called the hotel ahead of time to ask how much a cab ride would be from BWI, and were told $ 35, however it was more like $ 90. I was sure this was wrong, but my friend was quite disappointed since he had been very specific. Also, the elevator stopped on every floor on the way up and down, and the door would attempt to close 3-6 times each floor, despite noone being near the door. It was much faster to take the stairs. On the other hand, the reception staff was friendly and helpful.

We had two days & one night to visit DC. with friends from Cleveland, OH., three adults, 2 kids, 6 1/2 & 4 y.o.. They wanted to see the air & space museum, we've seen that many times (we're from VA). The location of the Red Roof Inn was perfect!! Metro Staions very near, though the mall was an easy walk, lots of kid/adult friendly eating nearby, the restaurant right in the hotel turned out to be very good for breakfast! The beds were very comfortable...loved the explanation of the bedding. All these positive points made the cost very reasonable for us. We definately will go there again. So many new things going on at that end of town.

The Red Roof Inn in Washington D.C. is awful!! Do not stay there if you can help it. Had to switch rooms twice. All rooms were dirty and smelled of smoke even though they were supposed to be non-smoking rooms. I was afraid to take my shoes off or sleep under the sheets. I was booked for a two night stay and canceled my second night reservation to go to a clean hotel that was actually less expensive just a little outside of the city. Our hotel room phone was broken and the fire alarm was torn off the wall. There were dead bugs in the light fixtures above the bed. Overall, it was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!!

One piece of advice; the parking deck is located on the china town side of the hotel. Park there first(!), or along the street if you can find a place.
