The hotel website states that they have a swimming pool. This is true, but the pool is NOT open. We were told it is closed for the whole year for repairs.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed in the Wellington now. The location of the hotel is excellent, close to the Retiro park and the metro network. The welcome is fantastic. The staff are attentive and welcoming and the quality of the service is outstanding from arrival (doorman adn reception) to maids and restaurant staff. For us it is very much a " home from home " feeling. We will certainly stay there again.

A very nice, well-situated hotel with friendly staff and excellent room quality and care. It is near many tourist sites, tour bus routes, churches (catholic and protestant), and shopping. The restaurants in the area are a little over-priced, but enjoyable.

This hotel is not qualify for 5 stars, it doesn't have iron, there isn't any directory for desk phone. All hotel staffs is not friendly, especialy those front desk staffs. Room temperature is way too hot, there isn't any switch to low down the tempurature. The outside temperature is 2 degree Celsius, but the room temperature is 19, I couldn't sleep during the night. It is definitly not good hotel to stay.

The Staff was always wonderful and polite. Full of suggestions for local shopping and sites to see. The room was beautiful and the bathroom was large and very clean. Location was near the Metro and many, many restaurants. Pool was very cold, but when we stayed there it was very hot, so it felt good.

We found the Wellington Hotel quite old fashioned, rooms very nice, kept very clean. Pool area quite small but adequate. We were disappointed that on our visit the English Bar was closed due to redecoration and building works also being carried out. The hotel was in a good location opposite Retiro Park (well worth a visit). About 15/20 minutes walk to Sol, Prada and Gran Via. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel despite the building works being carried out at this time.

We spent 3 nights in this hotel and found it apalling. How can this possibly be 4/5 star? We chose it mostly because of the pool and sunbathing area, which is an absolute joke. They only have 6 sunloungers and the area is surrounded by buildings blocking out the sun! The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful. Our shower was broken and the walls in the room were covered in stains and yet the staff appeared to be unhappy that we had the cheek to mention this! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It looks grand and classy but beyond reception is a completely different hotel. We will gladly sacrifice having a pool next time we stay in Madrid and advise anyone else to do the same. Vincci Lys hotel is much nicer and in a far better location.

An outstanding hotel. It is and old classic hotel, with many luxury features. It has a beautiful lobby that exudes old-world charm. The staff is very polite and helpful and the location is ideal. this property is in the quiet and upscale Salamanca District of Madrid, but walking distance to the Retiro Park, the Prado Museum, the Biblioteca Nacional, etc. There are excellent restaurants nearby. The hotel has a great pool and the rooms are generally ample. I like to stay in the upper floors even though the two elevators are somewhat slow.

Comentado por K, deBirmingham, el jul 31, 2008
This is a beautiful looking hotel. Never stayed in a 5 star before but the room rates are very good value. It has a great pool as well. However, once you are there it is very, very expensive...unless you are loaded of course. For example, you are better off buying new clothes than paying for laundry if you know what I mean. Also, leave the mini-bar well alone and step outside to the many local cafes for a drink.

Exceptional location and staff. Beautiful setting just north of Retiro Park (the "Central Park" of Madrid) and next to both metro subway and Madrid tour bus stops. The staff was one of the best we have ever experienced. However, the bathroom was a tad tight and if you want to enjoy a reasonably priced cocktail go to a local cafe.

Nice smart hotel. The main plus if you are staying there as we did in hot July is the lovely cool pool. The bar and services are v overpriced. Do not use the laundry service! Location right near the park is lovely, with good shops and cafes nearby.

It is not the grandest, but it holds its own...The USD does not get you much in Europe, but the Wellington sure gets a bang for the buck. Goizeko is a phenomenal meal and La Llave de Oro is good for a club sandwich. The Salamanca District is the optimal area to stay in order to avoid the hustle and bustle of the old city center. Great walking neighborhood, the Retiro Park is nice to walk or jog, everyone is much nicer in these parts. Madrid is again on my list of one my favorite places in Europe and the Wellington is my hotel of choice for the future.

sobre value="10""Hotel Wellington is NOT a Five Star Hotel"
Comentado por John, deDallas, el ene 1, 2008
The Wellington is old and tired and much in need of an update. There is little room to store clothes once unpacked. A board or two was loose under the carpet and knobs were missing etc on their furniture. The Wellington is also poorly managed. On two occasions at 7:30 in the morning we would be awakened by a leaf blower going full blast. We also had construction overhead beginning at 8:30; so if you like noise especially early in the morning then stay here. To be fair, the Wellington's restaruant is 5 stars and was a delight to have Christmas dinner. In summary, The Wellington advertises itself as a 5 star hotel. It is not close. If you want comfort in a real 5 star then stay at the Ritz.

The hotel is located in the most charming district of Madrid - a block away from the Retiro Park, only 5 minutes from the Prado and Von Thiessen Museums, and is situated in the finest shopping and walking area of the city. I went on a business trip but felt as if I were on holiday. The rooms are very clean, the room service was excellent, and the staff especially helpful. I rather enjoyed dining in on nights when I was too tired to enjoy the wonderful restaurants of the neighborhood. I recommend this hotel without ANY reservations and I look forward to returning.
