The Hotel American-Dinesen was an enjoyable introduction to Venice and its people. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. We arrived early and were given our room right away. We arrived by water taxi from the airport right to the front door. The room was cozy and clean. We walked throughout Venice and found our hotel to be within the areas of interest.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el ago 20, 2009.
This is a very nice hotel, well situated by the Accademia bridge and a fairly easy walk from the vaporetto stop. There are a few steps up and down the bridge over a smaller canal, and, unfortunately, many many steps inside the hotel, depending upon which room you're given and how much luggage you have; i.e., there's no lift/elevator. The Dinesan's bellhop gallantly takes on your luggage, while directing you to your room, and we recommend a generous tip. Upon checkout time, though, we carried our own luggage back downstairs. The pluses and minuses revolve around the name: "American Dinesan" therefore attracts a lot of other American tourists, which may or may not be what you're seeking... sometimes the stereotypic American tourist mentality intrudes upon your Italian vacation (a little too loud, overbearing, etc.). Breakfast was very nice, and there was free WiFi internet access, which is rarely a given in Italy. This was also the most expensive hotel for us, among our stops in Rome, Venice, Cinque Terre, Menaggio (Como), and Milan.

The American Hotel is deservedly popular and is mentioned in guide books as a recommended hotel. Situated in a quiet street overlooking a canal it is well-placed to access both directions on the Grand Canal. Rooms are comfortable and the staff extremely helpful. Breakfast choices a little limited.

I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel. It is ideally located for visiting Venice. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is very clean and comfortable. We stayed for 4 nights and would certainly stay again on our next visit to Venice. It is ideally located for the Vaporetto (Water buses) and is situated in a quiet area. It is an interesting short walk approx 15 minutes to St Marks Square / Rialto Bridge. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Venice and will definitely stay again when visiting Venice.

I am a fussy traveller and could not have been happier with service, friendliness, cleanliness, location and atmosphere. It is so worth paying a little more for canal view and the reception staff are beyond helpful. Also, if it is your first time to Venice, I suggest staying this side - it is away from the tourist traps/museum crowd everywhere, but 5 mins walk over the Academia bridge to the busy Venice. BUT this side of the bridge is the REAL Venice and not to be missed. Will stay here again for sure.

The Hotel American-Dinesen was a pleasant surprise. I had expected the room to be a bit smaller, but it was a decent size especially for Venice. It was nicely decorated and we had a balcony view of the canal. The staff was very pleasant and quite helpful for dinner recommendations. The continental breakfast was reasonably well stocked with a variety of selections. However a fruit salad or cup would have been most welcome instead of whole fruit. The location is very convenient to the Accademia bridge and vaporetto stop. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to my friends.

This hotel was really well located right next to the Academia bridge. The room we stayed in was a twin room which was a decent size with a large bathroom. It was really clean. Cleaners made our beds and folded our clothes everyday and gave us fresh towels. The receptionist staff were all very friendly and helped us whenever we asked. Breakfast was suficient which was toast cold ham and cheese, croissants etc. served untill 10:30. Free computer with internet access in the lobby. The only complaint I had was that there was building work going on at the time of our stay and was quite noisy in the morning time. But overall I thought it was a really clean and comfortable hotel that I would definately go back to.

Location is "less traveled area" hence away from the noise and crowd. It is near the very nice Googenheim museum. This is an elegant hotel. We love our room. We got lucky to be upgraded. The room has a great balcony and view of the very pleasant canal. It had outstanding TV that includes US channel. Nice breakfast, very helpful staff, lots of places to eat nearby, close to the boat station and many more reasons why we like the hotel and would recommend it to everyone.

checkin easy, we were upgraded to a suite which was a fantastic surprise. excellent location among small boutique shops and fantastic restaurant on the lido side of the area. everything was top class, breakfast too. will totally recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy venice with a bit of class, also the taxi boat from the airport takes you directly to the hotel door, so wandering around streets trying to find your hotel when you have just arrived in an unfamiliar city, and not be in the bedlam of st marco. just go. totally great.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel American. It was very convenient to take a water taxi directly from the cruise ship terminal to the dock right in front of the hotel. We had 2 families and 12 pieces of luggage after a cruise so it was the perfect situation. The breakfast included was very nice. It could be a concern for some that the hotel does not have an elevator. We were on the third floor. The rooms are very comfortable, but small for 4 people. We would stay at the hotel again in the future.

We easily found this hotel as it was less than 5 minutes walk from the 'Academia' water bus stop. On arrival, we were welcomed by friendly staff who took our bags for us & showed us around. The room was air conditioned, had sky tv (and not just CNN), a spotless interior & comfortable beds. It was cleaned & fresh towels were provided every day of our four day trip. The decor was classical antique style & very pretty. Following a peaceful nights sleep, we headed for breakfast in the dining room downstairs. The selection was typically European, but all food was fresh and of high quality. The hotel was helpful when it came to arranging excursions also. We booked our Gondola ride through them which was great & they also had local concert tickets available. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay at hotel American-Dinesen. It was recommended to me by a friend & I would definitely recommend it to you. Enjoy!

Has all the European charm you are looking for. This is close to water buses and eateries. You do have to walk a couple blocks with luggage if you use public transportation. If you rent a water taxi, which is pricey, it will take you to the door. But we loved the place. we wanted that flavor of Venice and that is what we got! Breakfast included! We got twin beds but knew that was possible when we booked.

Except the room size, the liked everything about this hotel. The best thing I liked was the iterior decoration of the room. It was really beautiful.Location was good since its at a walking distance from all the major attractions.I might go back to this hotel since all the other hotels are very expensive for the same quality and service.

We were very pleased with the hotel. We booked at the last minute and almost all the hotels in our price range were booked, so we didn't have much of a choice, which was frightening. But the hotel was very nice. The front desk were helpful. The room was clean and pretty, the bathroom was spotless and looked new. We didn't have a view of the water but there was a very nice garden at the end of the hall we used. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an inexpensive place to lay your head, that has charm and is in a safe neighborhood close to everything.

This hotel exceeded all my expectations for Venice. It is very easy to get to from the Airport. we took the laguna "red" shuttle to Zattere and it was about 250 yards away. The room was clean and ready for us immediately. All staff were friendly and spoke great English. The breakfast was the best we had all trip. Be aware of the "Free" Murano glass tour. They put you in a free cab but you get suckered into a long tour of their factory with a hard sell on overpriced glass. All in all, a great hotel.

If you can afford the Superior Room with Canal View then I would highly reccomend you stay here as they have little terraces and are very romantic and even have mechanical shutters to block out the intense suemmer sun. Otherwise, the place is a little too small to have a romantic getaway because there are families (lots of Americans, perhaps because of the name) literally underfoot. The staff was excellent and willing to help with recommendations and the location is perfect, you can easily get away from the hustle & bustle.

Our room was tiny, but clean and furnished nicely and we didn't spend much time in it anyway. (I do think we had the smallest room in the entire hotel - so at least the others were somewhat bigger). The hotel location is convenient to all the sights in the less tourist-y area of Dorsoduro (rather than just around San Marco), so it was quieter and in easy walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The staff were extremely friendly and eager to please, and the breakfast was nice enough - no extra frills but got the job done. Free Internet access in the lobby a nice perk. Overall we felt we got a great value!
