Very nice hotel in a great position for all the sights in Madrid, both the old city and the Bourbon city. Easy access to all the sights of Madrid, good rooms, nice breakfasts and good service. My only complaint is that the front of the hotel looks onto Plaza Santa Ana, which is very nice except that it is extremely noisy into the early hours on all nights and not just the weekend. We were on the first floor facing the square and were very disturbed. Either higher up or away from the plaza would be better.

We checked in and before we ever saw our room we were told that it was very small and an upgrade was available. We checked and it was very small, even by european standards. Once we paid for the upgrade we got a nice room with a view of the square. The square was very large with lots of resaurants and bars which close very late. Once they close everyone moves outside and yells and parties out there, making it very hard to sleep. We may have been better off with the inside small room and no view. Very clean rooms and a nice size bathroom (the upgraded room). Staff was friendly and spoke good English. Close to what you will want to see while in Madrid.

our first 3 nights in spain for our honeymoon were spent at the ME and it was perfect. the room itself was tiny, but the layout was good considering, so it was totally comfortable for our needs. the lighting options were Fun, the AC worked perfectly, the bed was very comfortable, and Tema at the front desk was perfectly charming, super friendly, and great with recommendations. In fact all the front desk staff were accommodating. The roofdeck at night was quite a scene - but as a guest of the hotel we could avoid the lines and enjoy a great view and vibe of the trendy roofdeck bar, which was huge, and hopping in the late hours. The Plaza was a perfect spot for lunch, and loads of tapas restaurants in the area, a quick walk to Plaza Mayor, etc. Everything was great about our experience here.

The hotel is walkable to all spots within downtown Madrid. The room itself was quite small, but that is typical of a European hotel room. The staff was attentive and all spoke English. However, my fiance and I had a poor experience in the hotel's restaurant. The service was poor and the food was hardly worth the price, especially given all the bones in the fish.

This hotel is great. The one thing to be aware of (especially for non european travelers) is that the way they do the billing for the in room phones is a rip off - especially if you try to use a calling card. They bill you for each call completed, which for a calling card, will be every call where you put in your PIN number, regardless of whether the call reaches its endpoint.

ME Madrid is a very cool hotel in a wonderful old building right on Plaza Santa Ana, which could not be more central. Rooms are not huge, but done very well and the bathrooms are great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I would suggest getting a room that overlooks the plaza. I have read a couple of reviews saying that the plaza is noisy til about 3am...I would respond by saying the windows have double glazing so you can shut any noise out, and also the noise is happy -- people laughing and an accordion playing or a great 4 piece jazz band playing old 30's classics. If you don't want to be up late, then don't go to Spain, where nobody eats until 10.30pm! The roof bar is very trendy (like the Sky Bar in L.A.) and the music pounds...so don't get a room above the 5th floor, because then you might be driven mad! Highly recommended.

The hotel is close to everything. The staff are very friendly and will try to help as much as they can. The building is art itself. The room is very clean, modern and high-tech. The shower is heaven-sent. We had free wireless internet -- rare in Europe. We had a concern when we heard the disco from our room. Amazingly, we slept good. Maybe because the bed is so comfortable. They have a nice breakfast buffet. You get one free breakfast if you join the hotel membership.

The roof terrace also worth mentioning - it is a great place for partying or for a romantic drink. The view is great. The room we had was a tiny room but as you are not going to spent much time in the hotel as the city is just great you will not mind.

This is truly an outstanding hotel. The rooms, although small by any standard, are luxurious and well designed. If you intend to spend your days in your room, perhaps this is not the hotel for you. However, who does that in Madrid? Also, the important feature of any hotel room, the bathroom, was truly outstanding. While the room was small, the bathroom was larger and more luxurious than can possibly be expected. As to the location, it is very convenient to everywhere. All expected tourist destinations can be reached by walking just a few minutes. The only drawback, if there is one, is that the hotel is located smack in the middle of what may be the most touristy part of town - and a part of town that does not seem to roll up its sidewalks until dawn. In fact, the hotel has a spectacular roof-top bar that appears to be one of the most popular and posh lounges in town (ask the staff to explain to you how to use the hotel guest elevators to get there - the lines at the street-level entrance to the bar and it's designated elevator may otherwise dissuade you from checking it out). If you like that sort of thing - perfect. If you don't, the more affordable rooms, ironically, located in the back of the hotel, offer peace and quiet. Finally, as to service, the staff goes out of its way to assist you. For example, a simple question of where to get tickets to a bull-fight, lead to one of the staff spending quite a bit of time to actually assist in getting tickets on-line. Overall, a great experience. Particularly in light of the room cost - while specific rates are not supposed to be cited here, let's just say that the rate was astonishingly low!

Not knowing Madrid well, we had no idea what to expect from the ME. Once we arrived (about a 10 min walk from the SOL stations), we knew we had found a great deal. The hotel sits in Plaza de Santa Anna which is a great place to be. Outdoor cafes serve great food, there is live music, and you are 10-15 minute walks from many great downtown locations (Prado, Palace, etc). You can even stay in the hotel for a great restaurant. We did not experience the roof top bar, but I understand it is owned by Cindy Crawford's husband and is a great place when it warms up a bit more.

ME Madrid is a very contemporary, high-tech and cool hotel. If you like this style, you'll very much enjoy this hotel. The rooms are nicely furnished and decorated. It's centrally located and the Plaza Santa Ysabel is very lively at night (hence be a little careful with rooms facing on the Plaza - might get noisy). My only complaint would be that the rooms are so tiny you barely have room to move. Would be nice to have a little more space and a desk and chair so you can actually do work. The room I had was impossible for work - a huge minibar took up all the space that a desk and chair should have.

We had stayed at this hotel several years ago when it was NOT a Meliá, simply the Reina Victoria. We knew the location was superb -- on the Plaza Santa Ana (a happening square) very near (5-10 minutes' walk) the Plaza Mayor, the Puerta del Sol, and the Prado. This time the hotel had been completely remodeled (25 million euros) in a very modern style. We had a premium room for 3 nights. It was very clean and comfortable, not excessively big, but with a super comfortable king-size bed and a shower-only bath. We had no meals at the hotel so cannot report about that. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, especially for people 25-50.

If location and a modern facility is more important than the size of the room then this is a great choice. Rooms facing an inner courtyard are quite soundproof with the window closed. Temperature control in the room may be pre-set because it still could not be adjusted after 2 efforts by maintenance. The tiny room with a huge bath is OK for 2 on vacation, but not for 3 or for space for working.

The ME hotel offers a great, central location for a stay in Madrid. The hotel is located on a lively plaza with bars and restaurants and is walking distance to most of Madrid's main attractions. We stayed in the standard room, facing the inner courtyard. While the room is small, it is very clean, with an extremely comfortable bed (feather-bed mattress and down comforter). There is a flat screen TV and a comprehensive lighting system that can be controlled from panels next to the bed. The bathroom is large, with a shower offering multiple jets as well as a large overhead (detachable) showerhead. The hotel provides a multitude of Aveda bath products. The service at the hotel is excellent. There is turn-down service at night and the staff is very accommodating. They printed out train schedules for us (for a day trip to Toledo) and made dinner reservations. When our chosen restaurant was not available, they took the liberty of booking another great place and calling us on our cell phone to inform us of the fact.

The Penthouse bar is a bit over-rated but good to do a little people watching for an evening. Room was very clean but the hotel missed on 2 points - there was no plug socket near a mirror that we could find and on check out day the maids started knocking at 6am to clean the room and while our check out time was 12pm! A little annoying. Overall the stay was great and other than the over zealous maids on the last day, you couldn't really complain.

I travel frequently, always staying in 4-5 star hotels for business, but often opting for les expensive lodging when travelling for personal reasons. I had a few days to spend in Spain earlier this month, and decided on visiting friends in Madrid and Barcelona (I have been to both cities numerous times). I opted for ME Melia Madrid over another hotel located very closeby, as I had visited the property previously and found it to be wonderfully located. I opted for a slightly "better" room than I would normally book, and my expectations were far exceeded. I have a new "address" when I visit Madrid in the future.
