El Coloso - Madrid

The hotel was in a great location, the staff was fantastic, and we were really suprised by how nice the room was. This was by far the nicest hotel we stayed in in Europe, and it was one of the least expensive.

We have been given a room next to the lifts in the ground floor and when we have asked for a change we have been given another room....next to the lift in the fourth floor. For this kind of price we would expect a higher standard and a better trained staff. the quality oof teh room was really bad, pretty dirty and the plumbery need to be checked as there was a constant noise when the neighbouring rooms were having a shower... Really bad stay

This hotel is easily within walking distance of the "old town" attractions and within easy walking distance of the Santo Domingo AND Plaza de Espana Metro stations. Most of the clerks speak basic English, but it is better to know basic Spanish or have a phrase book with you.

the hotel is in a very good, central location, which is walking distance from a lot of good locations. it is also about 2 blocks from the subways which helps tremendously. the hotel has free internet access on the 2 computers in the lobby and is very clean. the beds aren't the greatest in terms of comfort, but u get what u pay for when u want value.

Centrally located near Gran Via. Good service, friendly and helpful staff, free Wifi included. breakfast buffet is good but expensive. A/C on top floor not good. Needs to be repaired (more than 100F outside these days) and it just doesnt cool enough. Definitely a good place to stay ... just not on the 5th floor if its hot!

This hotel is located in downtown of Madrid. 2 min walk to Gran Via street and 5 min to SOL. Hotel staffs are very friendly and can speak English. The breakfast buffet is expensive but the hotel is walking distance to nice restaurants and cafe.

The hotel was clean, the staff very and accommodating. Very helpfull and willing to help me make reservations for a restaurant. Conveniently close to a Metro station. The only issue I found was that there was no mention of the price of the breakfast and it was very high, so it came almost 30 euros for breakfast for two. I suggested to the front desk that they make signs to inform the guests about the price of the buffet. Other than that, I would gladly stay at this property again.

The staff at this hotel are extemely pleasant and helpful, the rooms were very clean and cheerful although the bed was not the most comfortable and the air conditioning does not get switched on apparently until later on in the year, it was almost impossible to get to sleep as the room was so stuffy and hot and opening the window did not make any difference as the air was stifling outside and it was very noisy. Very central, just off the Gran Via so easy access. Breakfast at €14 plus taxes was good value and very varied and tasty. I would return if the air conditioning was switched on.

Excellent hotel, exceeded my expectations for the price I paid. We came in through the Barajas airport and were in our rooms within 30 minutes, via the metro system. The location is central and is one block away from the metro stop. Another great benefit is that there is a police station two doors down, so you can come back at any time of the night and feel extremely safe. The staff was extremely polite and helped us with every tiny request. Definitely would stay here again.

Hotel was clean and the front desk was helpful. Hotel is between 2 train stops Plaza de espana and Santo Domingo. Both no more than 200 yards from the hotel entrance. I took the train from the airport and was at the hotel within 25 miutes. There was some noise at night from the street, police station down the block. Ask for a room that does not face the street if that is possible. Less than 15 minute walk to the palace. Just a note, the trains start running at 6am, so if you have a early flight you will need to take a taxi which runs about 45 Euro. If you have option, take later flight and take train.

I stayed on El Coloso for a long weekend. Great location, very clean and the rooms are big. The Service is not good at all for 4 stars hotel. I could not get a coffee at 2PM, the breakfast was expensive and with no quality. On Sunday night when i asked at front desk how could i get the airport the guy was not friendly, i could say he was rude. Even with sign on my door "do not disturb" the cleaning lady knock 3 times. Needs improvement

Wonderful location... absoluetly perfect! You have the G. Via, Callao, Pl. Espana, Chueca, Palacio Real, Opera... absolutely everything in walking distance. The only problem we had was a leak in the bathroom, but as soon as managment new of the issue, we were upgraded to an absolutely breath taking room with an incredible view of the city, it was truly a treat. However, the initial room was not bad at all. Beautiful decor, modern electro-appliances, marble bathroom, very spacious. Incredible bargain for the price. Definitely a must stay hotel.

This hotel is located one block away from the Santo Domingo and Plaza de Espana Metro Station, which is great for the budgeted traveler. The hotel itself is clean, organized and has all the necessary stuff, the staff is helpful and nice. The room was clean and nice, although smell like old but not too strong. The bathrooms are big and clean... overall I was surprise to find a great hotel in such a good location and for such price. I recomend this hotel 100%!!!

Very good reasonable hotel, but our first room, on the 1st floor, at the front, the air condtion did not work, and we had to have the window open, and the noise from outside kept me awake all night, but changed our room the next day, which we were very happy with. no price list in the room for drinks cabinet in your room, all the staff very helpfull, would go back

I would definitely recommend this hotel. The room was ready when we went to register and the staff was very helpful even printing maps for us. The room was squeaky clean and quiet. It is very close to two train stations. It was recommended by friends who had stayed there.

This was a lovely hotel, near everything and the people were very accomadating. I would recommend this hotel strongly and I know if I go back, I would want to stay there.

The Hotel is in a great position to explore Madrid , went with my son will be using the same Hotel next year when i take my wife . The Metro is easy to use and makes easy work of exploring Madrid . Some great Tapa,s bars nearby .Recommended .

My husband and I enjoyed are stay here. The hotel was centrally located for our trip -- at the bottom of the street is one subway station, at the top of the street is another subway station. Our rooms were clean and because of our room location (facing a central courtyard, not the street), we did not hear any of the construction that was occuring next store. We did not try the breakfast - too pricey for our tastes. The rooms might be considered small by American standards, but we didn't spend too much time in the room, so it wasn't an issue for us. The room did smell a bit musty, but keeping the windows open helped alleviate the smell. Overall, good enough for us, but probably not for everyone.

I was rather concerned with some of the comments i read before i went. I would like to stress that this hotel was friendly, clean, good location and there was no smell either in or out of the hotel. I would definately return.

The hotel is in a great location but it is NOT 4 stars. We stayed at the 3 star hotel in sevilla that was much nicer. The hotel is clean, but nothing special. However, the rooms are pretty good sized especially by european standards.

Room for a good price but hotel had bad smell in hallways of urine, room needed updating - paint, bedding, curtains. Mattress sagging.

In a few words, great hotel for the money, awesome location and walk to all major locations, but A.C. only works 3 months out of the year, but hotels.com says rooms have A.C. It was hot and uncomfortable.

having been in madrid many times and stayed in mnay types of places i was pleasantly surprised.

The hotel itself met all our standards. Aircondition, balcony, free internet access, metro nearby. They had a parking garage, but they charged 18 € per night.

E' un quattro stelle commerciale (no lusso) in ottima posizione ,che ci ha permesso di girare tutto il centro senza mai prendere la metro(cmq ottima con circa 12 linee).Camera sempre pulita' e silenziosa.Unica pecca : una ragazza alla reception un po' antipatica , ma gli altri tutti molto gentili.

ottima posizione, ha due fermate del metro a pochi passi e di due dicerse linee. il ipersonale è disponibile, accogliente e competente. non ho soggiornato a lungo

Prettig verblijf. Goed via metro te bereiken vanaf het vliegveld. Behulpzaam en vriendelijk personeel. Schoon en comfortabel. Uitgebreid ontbijtbuffet. Je kan alles lopend bereiken.
