Central Hotel Am Dom - Colonia

Extremely Noisy hotel - Drunken revelers on the street until 2:00am, and the garbage trucks and busses starting at 7:00. Windows did not block any sound. There is also a chinese restaurant in hotel and the place smells like dried shrimps. It was cheap - granted, but stay elsewhere.

We had been assigned a smoking room and had to change it to a non-smoking room upon checking in. The hotel is about a block from the Dom/Hauptbahnhof. Minibar, hairdryer and a electric fan were nice additions. Very good for the price.

The entrance is shabby. But the hotel was OK. The reception was helpful. Be sure to specifically ask for a non-smoking room if you need one since by default you may get a smoking room.

Only stayed for a quick overnight stop but was surprised to have tea/coffee making facilities, a safe and range of TV channels. Room was small but perfectly adequate, staff friendly and room spotless. Excellent hotel.

Very small and cramped even for a european hotel. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, location is good. Hotel itself could us a little maintenance.

Upon checking in the staff were happy to speak to me in either German or English, though pleasant enough they were a bit slow to recognise that I was waiting to be served. The hotel has a very useful central location, very close to the main train station and the cathedral. However, this central location does not make for a quiet night's sleep - at least not in the room I stayed in which overlooked the street - despite having double glazing it still felt as if someone had brought the outside in. For anyone travelling with anything more than hand luggage this may not be an advisable choice, as there is no lift to provide access to non-ground-floor rooms. This made carrying an 18kg suitcase up two flights of stairs on one's own a challenge. The basic services were fine; free TV in the room, mini-bar, phone etc. However access to the Wifi is not included and this costs extra: 12,50€ for 24 hours, or 10€ for 2 hours, or 5€ for 30minutes. I was not aware of this before checking in. If you would like breakfast, it's an extra 9,40€ (or thereabouts) per day. There is a Chinese restaurant incorporated into the ground floor of the hotel, which contributes to a lot of noise inside the building - and a certain number of rooms involve weaving your way past the kitchens to get to your set of stairs. For a longer stay, on a budget, this hotel may be suitable, but for a little extra pppn you may find better somewhere else.

Had a nice couple of days at the hotel am dom. Staff was very friendly and clear. Room was clean and big enough as we were only there at night. Two separate beds put together were very uncomfortable. Beds kept separating during the night. The Chinese restaurant in the basement was a little bit strange. Very distinctive smells, and even saw a mouse/rat and cockroach when returning in the night. Overall Good value for money

It's not the roomiest or most comfortable, but it's location and price can't be beat. It's my hotel of choice when visiting our office location in the area.

Had to find somewhere to stay for a family funeral. Picked this hotel despite mixed reviews on this site. We found the bedroom to be functional, recently refurbished, very clean and tidy. Bathroom above average size compared with other hotels. Nice touch was flat screen TV. Breakfast cost 9.9 euros extra - just about value for money, usaul selection of meats/cheese/cereals etc. I would stay here agin - absolutely no problems at all. Very centrally located for Railway station and the Dom.

Pity no shower curtain in bathroom.Otherwise warm,friendly hotel.

We arrived very late in the evening to be greeted by a very chipper man who was quite a laugh. He was very quick to inform us about our "french bed" which most young couples liked since the bed didn't have a seam. A non-smoking room was not available so the room smelled heavily of smoke. It helped when we opened the door and the window to air out the room. Overall we were quite comfortable and it was very centrally located. We passed on the breakfast as we felt it was very pricey but did have a very nice dinner there.

Lobby situation suggests a low-3 star. There is a multiroom Chinese restaurant within the hotel's ground floor and no elevator to our 3rd fl room wh was quiet and comfortable. Had to pass by/thru the restaurant for staircase to our room; my husband said "you don't want to come home drunk to this place!" Friendly staff. Asked for light over sink in bathroom to be fixed -- didn't happen.

Its in a great location, right by the train station and the Dom, and is very easy to find. However, the bathroom is very compact, leaving hardly any room to move around, and you have to step over the toilet to get to the very tiny shower. My room also had a strange hole in the wall to some sort of electrical fixture. The elevator is also quite small, fitting just one person if they have even a small amount of luggage. Generally, the hotel is okay....despite the dimensions of some things and the boring decor its mostly clean, and is in a great location.

This hotel is very central in Cologne. Everything in the main area is accessible by walking - we didnt need to use public transport because it was all there for you. Parking (if you need it) is in an underground car park 5 mins walk away at €18 per day.

This hotel was perfectly adequate for my one night stay. I was looking for a clean room near the train station and was not disappointed. Versus rates at nearby hotels, my room was a good value. The neighborhood is absolutely fine. I would stay here again. A terrific choice for the budget conscious.

The hallways leading to the room were extremely worn in appearance and that made me a little nervous about my room but happily, the room (a single) was very clean and updated with simple furnishings. However it was SMALL - smaller than the average small European hotel single. That said, I would take small and clean over larger and tired looking any day. For the price and the location, I would stay here again. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.

This hotel has a great location. Its situated 2minutes walk from Hauptbahnhof. The only downsides to the hotel is that the walls are paper thin and you do tend to hear other guests quite well. Also the church bells from the local churches can be heard very well!

Friendly staff, fantastic location, inexpensive. Room was small but clean and comfortable. Had to walk through back of a Chinese restaurant to get to it but not a problem (and handy if you're hungry!)

The Central Am Dom is okay for a short stay. It was good for us because of the proximity to the train station. We were commuting to Dusseldorf each day for a trade fair, so the price and convenience made up for the small room, lack of amenities, and so-so staff. Too bad it costs so much to get so little these days . . .

Room was basic but very clean and adequate for my visit. Exceptionally helpful staff on reception. Would definitely stay here agin. Ideal location.

we had a very nice stay, great location, 5mins walk from cathedral & nearest xmas market out of six to visit. we would return again.

Location close to the cathedral, and hence the largest markets. Curious route to the room was through the back of a chinese restuarant. Staff were helpful. Good breakfast

Great place for a quick, easy stay over.

While this hotel is near the main train station it is lacking. There is noelevator for many of the rooms and you have to go through many halls by the kitchens and other rubbish areas that smelled bad jsut to climb a lot of stairs to get to the room. The room appeared clean, but the shower would not drain ... overall I would not stay here again...

The breakfast was very good. However, the clientele in and around the hotel was very bad.

Séjour de 2 jours avec petit déjeuner copieux et bien soigné. Hôtel en plein centre ville, seul inconvénient est l'odeur du resto chinois dans le même bâtiment mais sinon très très bien.

Vi var gansske tilfredse med vores ophold på Central Hotel Am Dom. Det var det billigste hotel vi kunne finde hvilket er ganske overraskende ift. beliggenheden, der ikke kunne være mere central. Du kan gå til alt derfra! Hver morgen vækkes man af kirkeklokker fra byens mange kirker, men ellers er det et roligt hotel, personalet er høflige og hjælpsomme, værelset rent og pænt.

Rummet var rent och snyggt, dock väldigt litet. Betalade 42euro för en natt, vilket kändes okej prismässigt. Hotellet ligger väldigt centralt (väldigt nära Domen) och kan på det hela taget rekommenderas.

Zoals altijd, de eerste indruk telt het meest - i.g.v. een hotel is dat de lobby en het balie personeel. De lobby is adequaat en het personeel fantastisch - een ideal hotel voor de oudere reiziger met eem budget.

Greit hotell, små rom. Ingen aircon. Ingen bar/pub på hotellet som vist i spec (under oppussing..)

Super Zentrale Lage

Das Hotel liegt zentral direkt am Dom mit guten Parkmöglichkeiten. Ein etwas verwinkelter Altbau, aber mit ordentlichem Zimmer. Die zum (nicht schönen) Innenhof gelegenen Zimmer sind ruhig. Das Frühstück ist zu teuer.

Een prettig hotel zeer centraal gelegen op 100m van de Dom. De kamers waren zeer schoon, maar redelijk klein voor 2 personen. Ondanks dat we te vroeg waren konden we direct gebruik maken van onze kamer. Goede voorziening voor redelijke prijs.

Dit hotel is prima om te overnachten. De locatie is super, de kamer is goed, maar verder is er niets. Als je niet meer zoek is dit hotel zeker een aanrader.

Ein kleines Hotel in unmittelbarer Domnaehe Toller Ausgangsort für CityTouren, sonst soweit alles in Ordnung Recht sauber und ordentlich, Zimmer eher minimalistisch bis rustikal, gut ein für oder zwei Naechte Service mit der gewohnten rheinischen Freundlichkeit Man mag es oder man mag es nicht.

Corridor and rooms are smelly . No safety protection and escape if fire breakout from the kitches downsrtair. uncooked foods not covers with platics pallets and plaistic containers not covered. Check-in staffs was too nervous and does not offer any services for travellers ( basically not hospitality but experience some kind of hostility feeling ). Value for money , this hotel is not worth for us to return in the future noit unless the reception areas and other areas are being well organised. It is the worst hotel that I have ever stayed during the last 30 years around the world especially in comparison to many third world countries , there are too many things that the management needs to imporove .

L'hôtel ne mérite même pas une étoile. L'état n'a pas été rénové depuis un bon nombre d'années. La moquette est usée, la chambre ridiculement petite et mal organisée (la télévision pratiquement sur la table de nuit...). De plus, nous avons hérité d'une chambre avec un grand lit au lieu des lits jumeaux demandés et fumeur au lieu de non-fumeur, sans aucune tentative de l'hôtel de faire passer la pilule en offrant, par exemple le petit déjeuner...

Die Nähe zum Bahnhof, den Museen und dem Dom war von großem Vorteil !

Lage des Hotels-super, etwas verschachtelter Bau (Zimmerzugang an kleiner Küche vorbei) Treppenhaus könnte mal wieder renoviert werden, nettes und freundliches Personal, Frühstück ok

Superzentral gelegen ist das Haus, quasi direkt neben dem Dom und dementsprechend laut ist es auch. Die Zimmer sind recht klein, dafür aber mit kostenfreiem Safe im Schrank, was ich gut fand. Das Wasser wird schon mal kalt, wenn nebenan jemand duscht, aber alles noch ganz okay. Uncool war, dass die Servicekräfte ohne zu klopfen die Tür öffneten, weil sie dachten, es sei niemand da. Sowas sollte nicht passieren. Klopfen und kurz abwarten bevor man in ein Zimmer tritt, sollte man eigentlich erwarten. Im Flur zu den Zimmern duftet die Küche...wer da pingelig ist, lieber die Finger davon lassen. Ansonsten alles in allem ganz okay.
