Have stayed at the Palace before and the building is quite amasing. On arrival I was upgraded to the David Livingstone suite so naturally this review will swing more to the postive side. Big bathroom, seperate lounge, lovely bedroom with comfortable bed. The only down side about the suite was it was always a bit chilly. The old windows had been painted shut but there were still gaps around the frame that the cool air kept breezing in. I asked for a portable heater which duly arrived.

The hotel is based on Oxford street, around a ten minute walk from all the main shopping streets. The staff were lovely and friendly. The value fo the room was astounding. Very comfortable. Cannot fault this hotel.

It was truly a pleasure to stay at this wonderful hotel. The history and architecture of the building was something to behold. We enjoyed the comfort of a large room with two double beds, all at a special summer rate that included a full english breakfast. I would not hesitate to book into this hotel on a return visit to Manchester.

this was the perfect place to stay since the event we came to see at the Palace Theatre was right across the street and the Metro stops 1/2 a block away... couldn't be more conveniently located. The rooms were bright and comfortable and the modern bath was lovely. My only complaint is that the restaurant said they were open late but when we tried to order food it was impossible to get someone on the phone. It is a small detail but at the time it was frustrating. On another positive note, the staff at the front desk were exceptionally helpful, I lost my camera in a cab there and found out the next morning that the night concierge (I think her name is Sean ?) made calls throughout the night on my behalf... very very nice experience overall and the hotel itself is beautiful.

manage to obtain a room at a reasonable price on a late booking. Slight delay when booking in but staff were very polite and apologetic. Room was satisfactory (very high ceiling). The only drawback was the room was of of a corridor with banging doors at both end which was not an aid to a good sleep, with drunken revellers returning at all hours. Would recommend this hotel if they take care of banging doors.

Very central, and a wonderfully atmospheric hotel with obvious great arcitecture, but still fit for the 21st century. Simply enormous - it's quite a challenge finding your way around. But it was perfect for what we wanted, staying just one night for a gig. Very central, a short walk from picadilly and over the road from Oxford station. On the M floor, which we were allocated, watch out for some noise from trains. Overall, pretty damn good.

Arrived and delightful receptionist gave me an upgraded room. Beautiful foyer, dining area and indeed bedroom, great location if a bit noisy on street below. Seond morning cleaning staff (male) came in at 8.55 a.m. without even knocking when I was in bathroom. Even if there was no 'Do Not Disturb sign they generally knock - bit disconcerting that. Discovered the second night this lovely room was directly over a function room with full-blown disco to contend with, not expected to finish until after midnight. Eventually asked to be moved to a quieter room. Another delightful female receptionist at 10 pm or so was very helpful; moved across to a quieter room with twin beds. TV remote did not work and bedside lights were very weak standard lamp style - main room light not much good either. Bed very hard - put back out reading in bed in the poor light!! Breakfast room madly busy at 10am Sunday morning - ended up going out for breakfast. Limped home!!

On arriving at the Hotel Easter Monday, there was only one person at the desk - 3 stations, one person, so we had to wait our turn. No bell hop to take our luggage - guy at desk delivered our luggage. We tried calling the front desk, no reply because there was no-one there - the guy was delivering our luggage. Telephone charges are exhorbitant - we were charged 19 GBP for a 10 minute telephone call. Internet was unacceptable - could not connect, were given a number to call, which was answered by a CSR in India who merely read from a script and could not help. We were only given one large and one small towel, called the front desk, an hour later we left the room to go out for the day - no towels had arrived. We cancelled the request on our way out because it was too late - the girl at the desk did not even apologize. Need I go on - the customer serice at this hotel was awful. In addition, there was a step up to the main level of our room around 3 feet inside our room - when you first arrive with no light on, fumbling for lights, we tripped on the step. No warning of a step. Finishes in the elevators in poor condition - can be retained in original condition but well maintained - this was not. TV - lack of channels. Shower was so forceful it almost knocked you over when you turned it on. Tub where shower was located was so high it was difficult to get in. Tile on side of tub had been repaired very badly - grout looked like thick icing on a cake. Toast on tray of room service breakfast was barely cooked and cold. Would never stay in this hotel again.

A lovely old building with tiled passageways from it's past as the 'Refuge Assurance office'. You could make this a truly atmospheric place to stay. However, the decor was weary - with a pathetic effort to cover drill holes with bits of wallpaper loosely stuck over - It just looked tatty. A shame as the basics in the rooms were attractive. Functionally, plumbing was sound but the temperature control was variable and the milk satchets with the tea tray were consistently 'off'. I asked at reception for some fresh milk - it never came The breakfast looked better than it tasted - but wholesome enough Overall - fair value if booked ahead at on-line rates. I paid a big premium to extend 1 day even tho' they had many spare rooms. I booked partly as they advertised the fitness centre - but didn't use, partly as it was not on site - so would involve an outing to the partner

Reception service is _extremely_ slow (this is if they answer). They try giving you the "bad rooms" before, until you have a stand then things would change. Their room service is so "stiff" (you can ask for a ham sandwich, a cheese sandwich, but God forbid you ask for a ham and cheese... it just is not possible and cant be offered!) the hotel is a labyritnh... give yourself some time to get to your room and absolutely make sure yu did not forget anything down in the lobby... or, pray God to have the room magentic key functionning (which was not the case with me) otherwise you're on in the hallway for another 30 minutes!!

The room was clean and not bad with the exception that it was all privacy screened due to it facing the back at ground floor. Some noise from train. The most annoying was the route from lobby to the room which include a elevator ride and passing 5 fire doors and one set of stairs. The location of the hotel is a good one with plenty of places to eat and drink near to it and plenty of nightlife within a few stone throws.

A refurbished old building, so your room has really high ceilings. TV has information access to your bill, plus pay movies etc. Internet is very overpriced, WiFi is only accessable in public areas, wired connection in your room is 50p/min! Apart from that an average hotel. Seems popular with Pilots & Cabin crew.
