Bed was comfortable but there was not enough room for 2 people to move about in the room. What was most disappointing was that there was no concierge. When we asked for a recommendation of a tour that would show us the major sites and get us oriented on our first night we were referred to and booked w/ a tour company that was more expensive than others we found later that had the "hop on/ hop off" feature. The tour they put us on was for the one night only, the guide spoke such poor English he was hard to understand and talked into the microphone so closely that we could not understand most of what he said and the bus and windows on the bus were dirty, the seat backs were so high you could not see most of what he pointed out. Very disappointing. Also poor service in the Irish restaurant on the bottom floor of the hotel.

I got such a great rate that I didn't have very high expectations of the hotel - I was totally wrong to have any worries. The staff was very friendly, the location was terrific for train-travelers, the bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was perfectly clean with complimentary wireless internet service. The bath towels were the size of beach towels and the toiletries were of high quality. The only complaint I could make about the hotel was the bathroom scale - it was frighteningly accurate!

There was no A/C in the hallway, the ice machine did not work, the shower leaked into the room so there was a huge amount of water on the carpet. Management obviously knew about the leak because when I arrived in the room, the window was open, A/C off, & the carpet smelled & looked like it had been cleaned. Would not stay here again.

The room was clean and nicely furnished. The beds were extremely comfortable and the flat screen TV was nice. The Wi-Fi worked great and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The Irish Pub downstairs looked authentic and the food was good. Union Station is a block away and is very convenient for getting around the city. Overall, it's a great hotel and will be my first choice when I return. I highly recommend it.

The location of the hotel was great only 1 block away from Union station(metro) and 3 blocks away from the National mall. The only problem I had with the hotel was that they didn't provide towels at first so I tried calling the lobby but the phone was not working too. But overall great hotel and room.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el jul 24, 2009.
The location only a block from Union Station is very convenient. The room was smaller than I could have imagined. The bed was only a double though it had been advertised as a queen. There was no place to open a suitcase and it had to be placed on the desk. I had to stack the desk chair on top of a wedged-in arm chair in order to create space to get to the window which looked onto an airshaft -- not a courtyard as advertised.

We really enjoyed the stay at our hotel. We arrived several hours before checkin and our room was already ready! The entire staff was very friendly. We ate dinner at the Dubliner downstairs and really enjoyed the food and the experience. We sat in the outside seating area and had a very nice view of the street and postal museum. The food and dessert were delicious and reasonably priced. We liked the decorations/design of the inside of the hotel. It had a very quaint and cozy atmosphere. Our room was a smoking room, which was very small, but it wasn't too small for us to stay in. It just wouldn't have worked well if we brought our kids with us, even in the bigger rooms. The elevator was also a little small, but made for an interesting experience when riding with other people. Everyone there was so friendly! The only thing we weren't expecting is how long the walk seemed from the hotel. It did take only 20-25min to go from the hotel to the beginning of the National Mall, but it was a very long walk, especially in the summer heat and humidity. We took a taxi back from one of the further muesums and it was only $5, so when we go back, we will probably be paying for a few more taxi rides, or traveling in the cooler months. We had a great stay and would definitely go back there again!

The Phoenix Park was located just a couple of blocks from Capitol Hill, making it very convenient. The room was quite small, but it was fine for what I needed and the price was very reasonable given its location. The free wireless service was another plus. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others.

I booked this hotel for my parents who are not that direction savvy. They loved the fact that they could walk to everything. They also loved the ambience of the hotel and said they felt like they were staying in an old Antebellum hotel. If you are in to modern hotels you might want to reconsider. As far as cleanliness they said that the sheet changes were not nightly and they had a problem with that...so that will be one of the reasons they didn't get all 5's. Overall they were pleased with the room and the price and the location was GREAT!

The Phoenix Park Hotel is convenient to many of the tourist attractions in DC. A lot of them are within walking distance. The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. One drawback was the size of the rooms, which were small and difficult for two people to maneuver. (Our room was a 2 double bed room) Another drawback was the lack of a pretty view if you are in the courtyard part of the hotel. (Eveything is buildings) The hotel is convenient to Union Station which is a plus. Overall we were pleased with our stay and would stay there again.

Very comfortable rooms - even though they are small. The size of the room actually adds to the "ambience". Unfortunately the air conditioner in my room was not working properly and the first maintenance person said I did not "set it correctly" which was silly. The second request for help later in the day resulted in the system being repaired - so a happy ending ultimately. Good food and drinks downstairs and a fantastic view of the Capitol.

Can't complain about the location, price, and condition/comfort of room...but the staff seemed a little pressed. There were somewhat long waits on everything from check in/check out (in which there was a mixup with the card), valet parking, getting the bags to/from the rooms, and breakfast. Also, our room wasn't quite ready an hour after the posted check-in time, but it was quickly taken care of. This is *not* to say that the staff wasn't courteous and appearing to make an effort. My guess is that due to the load-in area, lobby and elevators all being on the small/cramped side, everyone was just a tad overwhelmed if the hotel was anywhere near being full (which it looked as if it might be). Maybe an extra person behind the desk or out front may have helped, but even with the small tests of patience here and there we were just fine with our stay.

The hotel is 2 min walk from Union Station & 4 min walk from the Capitol. Valet Parking was $40/day. The Dubliner Pub was attached and very convenient or dining. The rooms were a bit tight, but clean, with firm, comfortable beds. Service staff was very helpful and polite. We will look to stay at the Phoenix Park each time we visit DC, solong as the prices stay moderate.

I was looking for a resonably priced, decent hotel in a good location and this one suited perfectly. The room may have been a bit small if I was more than one person, but I wasn't. I even parked overnight and into the next afternoon on a nearby street for a quarter! Just one minor issue: Pillow shams are for decoration, so like the bedspread, are not changed between stays. I would have gladly given up the pretty (not all that clean) sham for a basic, clean pillow case. I was in town for the marathon and the closeness of Union Station was great. It was my first visit to DC and will definitely look into re-booking the Phoenix for my second visit.

A boutique hotel in Irish tradition, the room are small but adequate and nicely decorated. The hotel is the closest to Union Station in the city which is great except noisey. My toliet was broken the entire time I was there and it ran constantly. I asked several times to fix it and they never did. Construction next door started early! I like the hotel for the location and have stayed here several times.

We are a family of four who travel often. What we did not like about the room was it was not meant for a family of four. The room was a closet. Two people could not pass each other in the room! It was wide but narrow. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable but it was a closet. We were checked in as a family of four but only got towels for two. We called down the first day and quickly got more towels but every day when they would clean the rooms they only left us with two towels. That was annoying! Also we requested a non smoking room which we got but we had to walk down a hall pass smoking rooms! I don't care if you have smoking rooms but don't put them on the same floor as non smoking rooms! My child has asthma and had to breath that smoke in every time we wanted to get to our room. We did ask to change rooms but were told the only other room available was just as small as the one we had. The food in the breakfast room was horrible. My child ordered waffles that were as hard as a rock and so was the toast.

Went to this hotel in September 2008 in a party of 4. We booked the same room and paid the same price as the other couple, and whereas their room was spacious with a fridge and mini bar with a nice view, our room had none of these things. Complained to the management, but I suppose that if we had not gone with someone else we would never have known. Location is great 5 minute walk from Union Station from where all the tours go and the cheap breakfast can be found.

The Phoenix Park was a great choice for us since it's a stone's throw from Union Station and only a mile from the Washington Nationals' stadium. Our rate was good and the room was a good value. The only negative was breakfast at the hotel's pub, the Dubliner. Average food at best and an over-taxed waiter to boot. Next time, I'd walk across the street to Union Station's food court where there are much better options.
