For what we paid this was the best value hotel we have used in the UK. The room was spacious and interestingly old fashioned style. We asked if we had been lucky with our room, but were told that all were of a similar standard.

The rooms werent cleaned properly. The TV's screen was different colours. There was a leak in the bathroom. The hot tap wouldnt stop running. There was no temperature control in the room. You have to pay for the gym. You have to pay for parking. The FREE wi-fi didnt work even though you could pay for it with openzone. Rooms were of a very old syle. Staff were dull.

the check in process was easy and friendly. Location of trhe hotel is excellent. I have however stayed in many hotels of similar price and this has to be the shabbiest. Old cracked sinks.Old decor stained carpets and old lumpy mattresses. Needs a complete refurb as the quality of the rooms cannot command the prices being charged.

Great location, central city, so expect central city activity outside. We were on the first floor which was quite nicely kept, and I think that the rooms were fairly recently refurbished. Very old furniture and fittings, but this is what I would have expected and fits in with the rest of the hotel. Very clean though. Problem. Even though we booked twin rooms, when we arrived we were told that they didn't have twins, only doubles. We were told that our booking was only a request, despite what we had in writing on our confirmation. Eventually they gave us Z beds, so we had a double and a Z bed in each room. Not ideal, but suited us fine.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el may 19, 2009.
Our first impression of the Adelphi was when we arrived at 11am last Wednesday morning. The hotel was jam packed, with a conference, as we soon learned. Our first encounter with a member of staff was the luggage porter who abruptly told us it was too early to check in. He then rudely told us that we couldn't have our luggage stored until it was time to check in as the conference delegates were the only ones allowed to do this. Being told that certain hotel guests are receiving a better service than you is not a good start when first arriving at a hotel. After a lot of negotiation and persistence we were eventually 'allowed' to store our luggage in the manager's office. Whilst this hotel is in a central location, the standard of accommodation is very poor. I have never stayed in a hotel in my life that didn't have a shower in the bathroom and the TV was older than me. The beds were also extremely uncomfortable and the wardrobe was so old the door wouldn't even open, so I was unable to unpack my clothes for my stay. I have just returned from the USA and perhaps the benchmark for my standards has been raised considerably. However a historical hotel in the centre of the European City of Culture 2008 has a long way to go if they want to compete with their neighbours across the pond.

The Britannia was located right in the center of the city so it was very nice. The guest service was not that good. Reception was not very helpfully with answering questions about tours and other things going on in the city. The room was a good size but the bed was horrible. The floor was more comfortable. The key card stopped working 3 times while I was there. The house keeping didnt really clean the room or the bathroom at all. And one thing that bothered me was that they told me me I could not eat food from other places in the hotel i.e. McDonalds, Subway or KFC.

This hotel has the potential to be a magnificent 5 star hotel, however it is quite run down, as in - decor has not been updated probably since it was opened. This is ideal for a shoppig break, somewhere to lay ur head, beds are comfy. :) Hotel is very close to shops, tube etc. However the hotel is right beside a college and there were swarms of foreign college students at the front of the hotel, in the lobby just hanging around, sleeping in the lobby, very strange. Also there is a drug centre not too far, so it is rough enough.

Location of hotel was excellent, very central and close to everything we needed. Good value for money and good service from staff. Downsides were the decor! We joked throughout our stay that the decor of the hotel was like something out of the 1920's! And it was! Also the bed was incredibly uncomfortable...it could have done with being replaced, as I think the springs were gone in it. But apart from that it was fine and served it's purpose for us, however when we return to Liverpool, we will more than likely be staying elsewhere.

I was over for a football game in manchester and used liverpool as a base to fly in and out from. My stay was comfortable however the rooms were very warm and over heated. The decor is old but the room and shower were clean. I did ask for a wake up call so I could go back to the airport early and it never came but other than that no complaints... If you like moder slick lines and flat screen tvs this isnt your hotel, but if you want a basic hotel in a great location this is great

Having wanted to stay at this famous old hotel for many years we were extremely disappointed with our experience. Upon arriving in our room we found dirty bath towels on the floor. The 2 cups for tea making still had the last guests residue in them. We complained at reception and the towels were replaced whilst we were out for the evening. Upon waking in the morning we went to make tea only to find the cups had gone but no replacements had been left so we had tom ring room service to get some bought up. The general decor of the hotel left us with the feeling that its better days were behind it

for the price, this was disappointing. Such a splendid building with a history as the top hotel in the region, it seemed to be suffering terminal neglect. The room smelled of smoke, disguised with air freshener, and was shabby. the bed was worn out, and there's no reason not to have a light both sides of the bed. Don't have the cooked breakfast, it's very inferior. As a budget hotel this would be fine, but not for the price charged.

We stayed at this hotel in order to go to a Liverpool match & do a bit of shopping for a weekend break. When we arrived it was earlier than their 2.30pm check in & were sternly told that there was no way we could check in beforehand. We had expected this but not the complete distain we were treated with. A porter eventually arrived to take our bags to another room for safe keeping and this led to more confusion while he had little english & was very unfriendly. When we did get to the room after the match we were very surprised there was no main light in the bedroom. We had asked for a twin room but received a double. Basically they were two single beds with the mattresses pushed together and one cover. The drawers were totally unclean and musty. There was no way I was putting anything in there. The decor was old fashioned & in bad condition. A door handle was falling off as we walked down the corridor. It happened to be very windy during our stay and you could hear the pipes and the wind as there was poor glazing in the windows. We found it hard to sleep with people running up & down the corridor & the other two factors. We did not eat at the hotel as I would not have trusted it. When we eventually checked out after a 2 night stay there was no one at the desk so we just left our cards. Customer service was non-existent. All in all this has to be one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at.

I read several reviews on the adelphi and initially was reluctant to make a booking because of them. However, my room was lovely with a 4 poster bed, lots of wardrobe and drawer space and very clean. My negative comments was the room was so hot and then when I opened the windows it was so noisy. I normally like showers and when i saw the bathroom it only had a bath and a shower head thing I was dissapointed, but I have to say the bath was filled in no time so I really enjoyed my soaks. The carpets on the 3rd floor are a bit shabby but lets face it thats not where you sleep. As long as the bed & the bathroom is clean Im happy. All the staff were polite and eager to help, but I was hoping to see the famous Adelphi Eileen who was the star years ago. Thank you adelphi I enjoyed my stay.

On a Saturday morning, false fire alarms 7.30 and 7.40 in the morning, in an old building where you have to jump up to survive if it is the real thing followed by an accidental opened door by room service at 8.30 - guaranteed short sleep and never to return. Had the management made some compensation for this, I would maybe not have reviewed. They said, that I should be glad the alarms went off. They were caused by an over flooded bath tub, as we would all be drowned. Even without the incident, really dainted rooms, no internet, no breakfast included = lowsy deal. Other than that, Liverpool was great fun.

my online booking comfirmation clearly stated that check out time is 12.00pm. When we checked in we were not told what time check out was and therefore had every reason to believe that we had our room untill 12.00noon. However a gentleman tried to enter our room at around 11.15am and was quite short with me when I tried to explain that when we booked the room we were given a checkout time of 12.00noon, his reply was "check out is 11am so how long will you be?" As a result we spent our last day in Liverpool having not had time to shower and feeling even more annoyed when five minutes later a second person tried to let themselves in! having paid for a room on the basis of having it untill 12.00noon I find the way I was then spoken to and almost kicked out unacceptable. We were also not warned that there was work being carried out at the hotel and that we might be woken up by workmen directly outside our window at 8am.

The most overpriced hotel experience I've had in years. My room was too hot to sleep in--heat pouring out of the register, no thermostat or shutoff valve in the room, and the window didn't open. Walls are thin, and there were noisy people in the next room. For what I paid, breakfast should have been included, but it wasn't. This hotel is a relic of another era, and is showing its wear and tear. It's a short wak to the train station, which is the ONLY good thing I'll say about it.
