My partener and I stayed i this hotel whilst visiting friends in London and we were very impressed by the quality of this hotel for the price that we paid through Hotels.com. We had a double room over looking the front of Victoria train station the room was very clean and tidy with a nice bright ensuite bathroom. Would recommend to anyone.

I must have had the pokiest room in the place. Can't see how this is rated 4 stars. The place felt tatty and well worn and in need of a refresh. That said, convienient location and functional. Overall, the place seems content to scrape by with the minimum of compliance, with no attempt to exceed expectation or try harder.

When visiting London from Northern Ireland we always stay in this hotel. It is central you can walk, bus or tube to many attractions and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. We were able to fit in a visit to the Proms even tho we had only arrived around 6pm which was an extra bonus for us We are never disappointed with the staff, facilities and the breakfasts are great. We were disappointed this weekend to find I had booked a room without breakfast!!! however it was soon remideed.

The hotel lobby is impressive and evokes memories of a bygone age, however, once beyond this area, the hotel becomes dingy and in urgent need of a modernisng facelift. Our room was tiny, which wasn't so bad for one night, but the bathroom was dirty and there were cobwebs in one of the corners of the room. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, although it had been made poorly, which was an indication of carelessness and general neglect which permeated the place. The location is excellent but the hotel is overpriced for what it is, relying on what it was to attract guests. Definately NOT worth its five stars. Two would be closer the mark.

This is a huge hotel, very grand, very busy and quite impersonal. The Receptionist was unhelpful, grumpy, rude and unfriendly and insisted we had a twin room even though we asked for a double. Eventually she managed to find one but said it wasn't ready for 2 hours. When we finally got to the room, the bed was squashed up against a corner just like a prison room, it was terrible. The very very helpful and lovely concierge persuaded her to show us additional rooms. We eventually got a room that we could walk around. Not much to ask really. On futher contact with the Receptionist, we asked for fresh milk and a sewing kit which never came......shame really. The other staff were lovely, the room was clean although extremely basic. OK for an overnight but not romantic or remotely luxurious. Really needs a complete renovation.

the reception area is beautiful, but my room was atrocious...no heat (brought in oil heater), mold in the bathroom, etc. This is an expensive hotel...it is convenient for the train, but you still have to face the weather if you have an early train (had to beg to be let out the door that goes right to the station). There are much better places to stay in London for this amount of money!!!!

Our bedroom was very shabbily furnished and smelled of cigarette smoke. The bathroom was very poor and the basin had a large crack in it. This was our second Thistle stay in a week (the other one was in Poole) - both need a refurb - and in both cases, their so-called "non smoking" rooms are in need of a proper clean - we woke up each day with the smell of old, stale tobacco in our nostrils. The soft furnishings need fumigating! The staff were great though and the hotel's saving grace - again, in both cases (Poole and Grosvenor) which says something for the quality of their recruitment and training policy. Grosvenor Hotel is very convenient for Victoria Station and very quiet. A good choice if only they could do something about the stale tobacco smell and could afford to refurbish generally.

The Grosvenor Victoria (used to be The Thistle Victoria) is located right in the Victoria Train and Underground Station. It is also just acroos the srteet from a major Bus stop, and only two blocks from the Lonf=don Coach Stati9on -- so it is surely THE most convient of the many London Hoterls. One can ntake the 211 Bus to the Westmisnter Bridge and walk about 100 yards to the London Eye. VERY accommodsating folks, full Enlish Breakfast usually included. Are prices high - yes, but it is only monry. WEhy are you going to England? To learn about your heritage, to see the history, to take in the theatre - then thi sis the place to stay!

I booked one of the single bed rooms for a fantastic rate, after the 15 minute hike to my room i knew why. The hotel has two wings, the older absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke, never mind that i had specifically requested a non-smoking room. Please keep in mind that when i say reek, i mean it smelled like a strip club and made me queasy. After hauling my bags (no bell men offered to help) back to the front desk I was informed that it was *my* fault that i found the room unsatisfactory and that there were no other choices. Switching hotels was equally difficult because the staff, including the manager, were extremely rude. I would absolutely never recommend this hotel to anyone.

On arriving at the hotel we had to wait approx 15 mins to check in. This we felt was far too long as we were only there for the one night and wanted to get out and see the sights. The room was acceptable and bed very comfy, bathroom needed updating and tea and coffee facilities (hidden in a bottom draw!!!) could do with a clean! Breakfast was ok standard buffet where you could help yourself to cooked breakfast or cereals toast etc. This was an extra £10 when added to our room but they were charging £17 if added to your bill WAY TOO MUCH!!! Check out again was very disappointing having to wait again another 10 - 15 mins. Nice hotel but need to brush up on the service

The difference between the mixed reviews for the Grosvenor Victoria is simple: Deluxe room vs. Standard room. It seems that all the bad reviews (and pictures) are from people who stayed in Standard rooms. I've stayed at the Grosvenor 3 separate times; once in a Standard and twice in a Deluxe. The Deluxe rooms are much nicer and only a little more expensive. The Grosvenor Victoria is perfect for early morning flights out of Gatwick, as the Gatwick Express departs from Victoria Station right behind the hotel. If you stay here, go for the Deluxe room...you'll be glad you did.

This is really a great location for getting around London. It is a mere 10 minute walk to Buckingham Palace and then walkable to parks and Knightsbridge with lots of shopping. Also, there are bus tours right outside the hotel and a bustling area with lots of shops. I had a single room, so it was pretty small, but that is expected. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean and it was surprisingly quiet. The only complaint I have with this hotel is that my original flight was canceled, so I did not arrive until the next day, I had hotels.com call them after I found this out, but they insisted on charging me for the night that I wasn't there, so I figured I should be able to get there before check-in time since I was paying for it anyway, but wouldn't you know that the room wasn't ready. This was very shady, obviously they booked the room anyways and were trying to make double on it. Other than that, it was a great place to stay.

If you walk out the rear exit of the hotel you are in the train station complete with eateries, shops and money exchange. The hotel has all the personality of Victorian England that I wanted. Showers are great, hairdryers are weak, good only for short hair. Upkeep in certain areas could be better. I had a huge water stain on my bathroom ceiling, with peeling paint. My room was a nice size but some are fairly small. We had twin beds and they were extremely comfortable. Huge continental breakfast in the morning, make sure its included in your price. This is a very lovely, elegant hotel, a bit "worn" in some spots, however that only added to the historical charm. The staff was exceptionally eager to please, especially the Concierge who was so helpful in making tour arrangements for us and offering good advice. My one and only complaint would be that the room was not air conditioned (mid July trip), which would not have been a problem, except that the window would only open about 3 inches and that opening was mostly blocked by the radiator. The ceiling fan barely made the air tolerable. The wonderfully soft duvet-covered comforter was an elegant addition, but I wish they had "soft" pillows to match. Perhaps though, the British like their pillows hard as rocks. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay here again in the future!
