Wasn't sure about location when I realised the hotel was in Upper West Side but it was a nice quiet location and right by the No 1 subway line at 103rd street so getting around was very easy and not at all a problem being so high up. After an initial change of room due to the TV not working I found my room very comfortable, especially the bed. The shower in this second room was old-fashioned but worked well once I mastered how to adjust the heat. No breakfast provided but with a Starbucks next door this was not a problem. A great stay and would definitely recommend the Marrakech.

They renovated the rooms recently. the room is tiny and it was good enough for me just crash after tiring and long days. I hard ly spent 6 hrs a day. Don't expect so much before you check in you will certainly get disappointed. No closet, no iron table, not even drinking water bottle provided at the front desk. Hotel is located at the center very near central park and time square. easy access to subway if you prefer to travel in train and there are good restaurants near by. safe neighborhood. rate was cheap. overall its good. I would give 3/5.

This double room was really a single room with two double beds crammed in. There is no elevator, and the staircases are extremely narrow. (Think dragging your bags up while bumping the walls.) They did have a bellman carry them up when we checked in, but after that, it was up to us. The Tv reception was horrible, and after the first day, they didn't replace the shampoo or bathmat. Still, you can't beat the price -- just factor in climbing several flights of stairs every time you come and go.

the location of this hotel was great. its right across the street from the train. you can hop on the train and get to anywhere from Times Square, The Village, to Canal St in no more than 20 mins or less. the neignborhood the hotel is in is also a decent area with restaraunts, a couple of bars, stores, and fast food. my only 2 complaints of this hotel is that it doesnt have an elevator and the rooms are EXTREMELY small. they will have attendants take up and bring down your luggage for you and the beds are very comfortable . the cleanliness of the room was not an issue and the service was great. the staff was friendly, helpful, and will answer any and all your questions with no problem. for the price i wouldnt recommend this hotel but if they brought down their rates a bit, i would. its a great spot to stay in for vacationers who dont plan on being in their hotel rooms but to get dressed and go.

Nice neighborhood with lots of convenience stores and restaraunts. Subway outside the front entrance. Happy Hour from monday thru Thurs is nice. Rooms clean, small, but just what you need for a stay in Manhattan. No elevator so you will get some exercise if you are on the 2rd floor or higher. I would reccommend this hotel.

We had a room with 2 beds so our room was much bigger than the other couple we saw. Otherwise you might get a little claustrophobic in some of them. It is also not for someone with a disability since I counted 24 steps to get to the hotel desk. It was another 15-20 steps to get to the next floor. Other than that we loved the Marrakech for the ambiance and the location. It seems to be very well managed and a professional staff. There are lots of restaurants and dive bars on Broadway and Amsterdam and the subway is just across the street. Central Park which is my favorite place to spend time is just a few short blocks away. We would stay there again and hope to in a couple of years.

Great location. Rooms tiny. Stuffy. Dark. Front Desk staff NOT helpful and seemed irritated everytime I asked a question. I reported to them that our shower had gnats (little flies flying around, some alive, and some dead squished onto the tiles), and the girl says, "Gnats?" So I tried to explain what I was talking about--apparently she doesn't know what a gnat is--and she says to her co-worker, "Umm....do you have any idea what she's talking about?" Very flippant attitude and not helpful at all. Decor in the lobby & lounge is great, the blue rock wall on the way up the 1st flight of stairs is cute, but the rest of the hotel is rundown and sketchy. Great diner down the road, and a great Bar/Club down the street @ Broadway & 107th. I'd visit the neighborhood again, but not this hotel!

My friend & I booked a double double room at the Hotel Marrakech for 2 nights in August. We ended up staying a 3rd night, but in a different room, so i'll mention things about both rooms. First room: Double Room with 2 Double Beds. *No closet, stand-alone wardrobe with shelving and a hanging rod was sufficient. We brought extra hangers with us, otherwise there would not have been enough hangers for two of us! Who knew 2 girls would use so many hangers for a 2-3 night stay? *Desk with clock radio was fine. Chair from IKEA. Functional. *Window air-conditioner with Automatic temperature gauge, adjusted to the set temperature by increasing or decreasing fan speed and cooling. This was great as we didn't have to constantly adjust it. *Nightstand--not much room, very small, but did have two drawers and a shelf for storage of magazines, books, etc. *Lighting--TERRIBLE lighting. One dim bulb overhead with the ceiling fan, and one dim bulb on the nightstand. Neither bulb could have been more than 60W, and at least one must have been a 40W bulb. This room was on the front of the hotel overlooking Broadway, so when we opened the blinds in the daylight, we had plenty of light. If we were changing or it was night, we were squinting to see. (The hallways are VERY dim as well--be careful and take a buddy with you!) *Bathroom--TINY. Shelf unit on the wall to store toilitries & towels. Sink was sufficient, but not much counter space to hold your stuff. The shower had an overhead rainfall-type showerhead which was nice. The shower had GNATS in it, however, live ones as well as dead squished ones on the tiles. When I told the front desk staff about the gnats, the girl looked at me like I was insane, and asked me, "Gnats? What do you mean gnats?" I said, "You know, gnats, little flies, flying around in the shower." She looks at another staff person and says to her "Umm....do you know what she's talking about?" Not the best customer service here, as I would expect the room to be spraye

The interior decor definitely set the mood for adventure. It is a beautiful hotel to stay in. The rooms are less interesting than the hallways, but still very clean. I had a rather large TV in my room. The bathrooms were generally clean, though the shower looked a little dirty (it wasn't actually dirty, there were just some stains in the bathtub and the doors were difficult to pull open). The neighborhood was very easy to access via the 1 train. Nice neighborhood. I went jogging one morning to Central Park.

The Marrakech is small, but if you're only looking for a place to keep your things and sleep at night, it does the trick! The staff is very helpful, and our room was cleaned every day, over our 3-night stay. There are basic amenities, but you will have to do without a closer, dressers, and a small bathroom. Again, if you just need a place to sleep, it will do!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Marrakech, but I knew what I was going into, based on informative reviews. The Marrakech is not a luxury hotel. It does provide a small but comfortable room, with clean sheets and a clean bathroom. The room was pleasant, if a bit spartan. There was no closet, but the thematically decorated furniture included a wardrobe with enough space for a few days of clothes. All of the staff that I met were very pleasant. Charisma (at the desk) and Jonathan (one of the doormen) were professional and very competent at their work, even when dealing with obtuse guests (whom I observed them to handle quite appropriately). The hotel decor is nice, but not a major draw. It is just trendy enough to be hip, but be aware that the hotel is small in nearly every aspect - the lobby is small, the stairways are small, the rooms and hallways are small. There is no elevator, and hallways and stairwells are dimly lit (this seemed intentional, as all lights were on, but they were just low wattage). My room looked out on Broadway, and the street noise could be heard, but was not obtrusive. The air conditioner worked and kept the room pleasantly cool when necessary. There was no ice machine, but ice was available from a daily refilled chest on the first floor - this should be reconsidered in light of recent health scares. The feel of the place was quite international - East and West Asian, Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and Latin American guests were all heard and seen - and it did have a hostel feel to it, but there seemed to be separate wings for hostelers and hotel guests. The fact that the subway stop was literally outside the door was a great plus. The surrounding neighborhood was ethnic (Latino and Asian, primarily), with good music and food in close range. It did not feel dangerous, and I felt no risk from walking at night along Broadway. Overall, my stay at the Marrakech was quite pleasant and I would recommend it to travelers. If you are the kind

This was a pretty standard NY room. Yes, the hallways were a little small, the room a little noisy, but overall it is a good hotel in Manhattan. The staff was great. They offer things other hotels in NY don't (Free Wi-Fi in the lobby) which is great. Location was pretty good too. You'll have to do some walking and/or MTA riding, but the hotel is a block away from the subway. I didn't notice a lot do do around the hotel, but a 5 minute subway ride will put you into a much busier area...

- Location was awesome, next to the 1 subway. The neighborhood has everything you need within the walking distance for young and old. - The hotel is old, but clean, if you can get past that you will love it. The staff is courteous and very helpful at all times. - No Elavator!! Must climb stairs to second floor to reach check in desk. Only two addtional floors. Nothing compared to all the walking you will do in New York. - The only complaint I would have is the cleaning staff didn't give us towels, we needed to ask the front desk for them.

This hotel is perfect for a value property. You must be aware that with a value price you give up some amenities (like an elevator). Be aware of the uniqueness of this property before booking. You will get some exercise. It has a fun young vibe to it. My room was on the top floor and was a double room. I highly recommend getting a room high up. There was no noise. The room was clean and cutely decorated and had a brand new a/c unit that worked well. I would recommend this hotel for parents of Barnard or Columbia students. It is a short walk to campus or a 2 stop subway ride. For the price I paid, this hotel met all of my expectations.

the hotel decor was fabulous (simple but elegant), the staff were very friendly & helpful with directions and food suggestions, the subway entry is about 100 feet from the front door, eventhough our particular room did not have any kind of view the air conditioning was very nice! and I love that they had a door man (such a little detail but definitely noticed). If I had to critique one or two things it would be the carpet in the room and the shower head, but even that's a stretch. The carpet looked older and worn, UNLIKE the rest of the room and the shower head could be updated for better flow. I hope to stay here again!

I booked this room for five nights with a friend as a last resort. I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, there is no elevator, but there are nice strong men available to carry your bags if you need it. Yes, you get woken up at five in the morning by the pipes, but once you know what that is, it's easy to turn over and continue sleeping. It's location is quite far from the central tourist area or financial area but if you like to walk, there are lots of shops to be seen from the walk down and there's a bus and subway stop nearby so you'll always have those links. My primary motivation for this trip was to show a friend round new york and she definitely enjoyed it. We even found parking on the first night there, although having a car in NYC is sheer stupidity. The staff were very helpful, even offering to open the bar after it was closed. All in all, enjoyable, comfortable and a relaxing stay was had in Marrakech.

Marrakech looked great on lineand also when we pulled up outside. As we entered however, the shabby carpet was a taste of what was to come. Our room was VERY basic, one plug socket, no mirror in the bedroon, but it was clean. As we only used it to sleep in it was ok, but I wouldn't return. The best thing about it was the proximity to great transport, both subway and underground, so we got around the city quickly and easily. Also, some fab places to eat breakfast-Metro Diner and Arties especially.
