Some of the hotel staff was VERY UNFRIENDLY!!! Some were ery helpful and took the time to get us train schedules...the breakfast was not that great if you are American, it is not the same kind of food..Bed was comfortable for American Standards and had a good shower..WIFI was soooooo expensive..do not plan to use your computer

If you would like a great hotel that is close to everything in walking distance..this is a great hotel. Nice big room and a nice hot shower after a hot day tooling around Florence or Tuscany. The staff is very friendly and speaks English for those of us not so fluent in Italian.

This hotel was as good as any I've stayed at in my travels. Everything was top flight. The only drawback was that the internet connection was very weak wifi in our room. So, we had to spend our time exploring Florence, not a bad thing. Most importantly, the next time I visit Florence, this will be my #1 choice. The staff at the front desk were especially helpful.

The Calzaiuoli Hotel is in a GREAT location, an easy walk to the Duomo, museums and shopping. We stayed there June 28 - July 1, 2009. Definitely take advantage of the breakfast: yogurt, granola, cereal, jams, breads, toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, juice, fruit, teas and delicious coffees individually made according to your specifications --- great. The room was a nice size, the bed was comfortable, nice sheets, air conditioning worked well, the bathroom was modern and pristine. The restaurants suggested by the staff were our least favorites so you'll do better getting that info off the web, our two faves were Quarttro Leoni (get their famous asparagus and ham pasta dish)and Il Latini (go for the steak for two for the main course) and for lunch or a snack definitely walk right around the corner from the Calzaiuoli Hotel (left out the door, first left and then about 20 paces on the left) to I Fratellini, 2.50 Euros gets you a great sandwich, we liked the tuna best, swung by again before heading to the airport and ate them on the plane - yum!

Location, location, location!!! My only complaint is that our room was across from the kitchen so we heard pot/pans and conversation begin at 6am. We did have a window onto the street which was fabulous. If I ever go back to Florence I would stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay at The Calzaiuoli Hotel. The breakfast was nice and the breakfast room was great. The staff were very accommodating and responsive to your needs. Although the maids could do a more thorough cleaning of the hotel rooms but other than that, it is a fine hotel with wonderful amenities like slippers!

This is a very good hotel and I would recommend it. The staff were friendly and efficient, the room was very clean and comfortable and the location is ideal. The only down side to our stay was that we were in room 102 on the first floor which is next to the breakfast kitchen and the staff, coming on duty very early in the morning made little or no attempt to work quietly.

I will agree with other reviewers that you can hear a fair amount of noise from the street in your room, but it is a busy urban area in the heart of old Florence, close to everything you could want to see. It is only at most a ten to fifteen minute walk to anything in the old city and frequently less. Furthermore, between the shutters which not only block sound, but light, and the hum of the air conditioner, the sound is pretty much blocked out. The room was lovely and spacious, and while the lighting and the hair dryer in the bathroom could be better, the view from our room was stunning, the coffee was great and they made outstanding bacon. Every member of the staff was helpful and gracious and when we called frustrated because we couldn't figure out how to drive to the hotel, it seemed every way there was blocked by a pedestrian only thoroughfare, they sent a driver to us who brought us in without incurring a ticket for driving on a pedestrian only street. There are tons of great restaurants and plenty of shopping just outside the door.

The location was awesome, and the staff was great. When we asked a question the front desk staff couldn't answer they sent someone down the block to ask somebody else who would know. Our hotel room was small but nice. The only negative was that our only window opened to a stucco wall 3 feet away.

This hotel has an enviable location--just minutes from the train station and just a short walk to all the museums and near to destinations just across the Arno. The breakfast was a lovely combination of European and/or American tastes. There are many nearby restaurants and one can stroll about early to late in the day.

The location is unbelievable -right down the street from the Ufizzi, Duomo and Acadamia Museum - short walk to Ponti Vecchio, train station, restaurants -eveything you need within a 5-10 minute walk. and the best shopping in Florence! For those who love to people watch from the window of their suite, comfortable beds, great bathroom and room size (by European Standards),quick nice breakfast included - the staff is excellent- it rained the entire 3 days we were there (very romantic) - we needed to depart for our cruise (Rome) during the Florence Marathon ( the course was right in front of our hotel and the streets were blocked off) they managed to get us a cab and manouvered us and all our luggage through the manathon course - all with a smile! I can't rave enough about this hotel!!!

This hotel couldn't be better located, but make sure your room is in the back or you'll never get any sleep. Ventilation was a problem. The room simply didn't smell good unless we kept our window opened. However, I would stay here again. Reasonably priced and helpful staff. Good breakfast, too. We stayed here after spending several days in the Tuscan countryside at luxuty inns (la Suvera and Castello Banfi il borgo). I was concerned if we would like it and we were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very clean, the service was EXCELLENT, the room was an average size room for a hotel in Florence--ours even had a couch--the bathroom was quite small, but that is to be expected. You really can't beat the location for convenience. Overall, we were very pleased and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel is located a couple of minutes from the Duomo. You can get to the Plazza della Republica, the Plazza de la Signoria, and the Uffizi in less that 5 minutes on foot. It might take 10 minutes to reach the Ponte Vecchio. The abundant breakfast (included in the price)is excellent. Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, rolls, fruit, yogurt, etc. are there for you. The staff is very helpful. The only slightly negative aspect was the noise from the street. If we kept our window closed, it was very quiet, yet warm. If we opened the window, it was very noisy into the wee hours of the morning.

Not only was this the cheapest rate out of all our hotels in Italy, but it was the best one! We were very pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, spacious and had tasteful decor. It was at the heart of Florence on a main, clean street filled with stores and gelaterias - a two-minute walk to the Duomo. Yet it was still quiet enough to get a good nite's sleep. Everything is walkable around that area. They had the nicest and most helpful hotel staff, as well. The only downside was the small bathroom but at least it was clean and modern.
