Culver Hotel - Culver City

The breakfast was complimentary and it clearly showed. The breakfast was horrible. But the location of the hotel is the best part.Close to everything in Culver city.

Rarely do I express such emotion (I loved my stay at the Culver Hotel) when it comes to a lodging experience. The Culver Hotel is CHARMING. OK, so the room I stayed did not have the most up-to-date furnishings but it was large, had free wi-fi, the bed was phenomenally comfortable, and the shower/bathroom was wonderful. It's in a very non-LA neighborhood with wonderful restaurants of varying price points within walking distance. Very neighborhood feel. The free breakfast in the lobby was great and the lobby is REALLY GREAT. I'm so glad someone is preserving this gem. The bar in the lobby is great and has a very comfortable feel. Everyone working there is honestly friendly. I just loved it and won't stay anywhere else when I travel to LA.

The Culver Hotel is situated in downtown Culver City. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations - so it is a bit dusty - but the rooms are clean and comfortable. It is an old hotel so it is a bit musty - this may not be the place for visitors with allergies. Parking is a challenge because you need to use the public garages. Overall though, the parking issues were easily overcome.

Had a nice stay. Very convenient to Sony. Good neighborhood. THey're definitely working on upgrading the hotel, but it's comfortable right now.

The hotel staff were very nice, helpful and cheerful. The morning breakast was fresh, nice and more than excecpted. The area was GREAT, some of the best restraunts we have been to. The problem was, very noisy room, no screens on windows and got "bites"... bed bugs ??? The rooms need to be updated, new linens ect..... We would give it another chance if it was updated

This is a wonderful hotel in the middle of Culver City. Our room had a great view of Culver Studios and the city beyond. Keep in mind that this hotel dates back to the 20's and although it has been updated, the average room size is smaller that most newer hotels today. If you like older historic hotels, this one is a great one to stay in.

Rooms are cramped and old and need updating badly. Air conditioner over the door iced up during the night and rattled all night sounding like a continuous alarm clock causing a very uncomfortable night. Old elevator can only accomodate three people and is extremely slow. That being said, the hotel is historic - once owned by John Wayne and the hotel for many historic movie casts. The lobby is decent, but not great. The registration desk area is thrown together and looks out of place. The breakfast in the hotel lobby was quite good, though. Overall, I would not stay there again even though it has an interesting history.

I didn't really know what to expect when I picked the Culver Hotel. The reviews made it sound pretty good, and the look of the place and its interesting history made it appeal to me. But ultimately, when I checked in, I had no idea what to expect. It turned out great...I couldn't have been happier with the facility or the service. The room was comfortable, the price was right, and the staff went out of their way to get my room ready a few hours early when my plans changed. I only ate breakfast, so I can't speak to the food service the rest of the day, but the meals were delicious and relaxing, and the service highly attentive. I could barely finish a cup of coffee or a glass of grapefruit juice before the waiter would swoop in and top it off again. I don't know how long it will be before I find myself in the LA area again, but what I do know is that I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

Very simple, clean, in a good location hotel. The employees were very friendly, good services and great breakfast! I will stay there again.

We had a great experience at this hotel. The room was beautiful and comfortable. Also, their wireless internet in the room was a big convenience. The only downside of our stay was that there was construction all the way around the hotel which made navigating and parking a challenge. Other than that, the neighborhood is great - lots of restaurants within walking distance and very close to Sony studios. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Although the hotel is surrounded by construction, I slept well. I was not awoken by any construction, possibly because they were not working on Saturday. I picked this hotel, b/c of the price, not location. I hung out at Santa Monica the night before and was headed to Universal Studio on Saturday. Much to my surprise, the hotel was clean, staff was friendly, room was comfortable and parking was free. The only turnoff was the stench of alcohol as you walk into the lobby, with an offset area for the front desk. I would stay here again if I am in the area. Next time, I hope to check out the lively night life surrounding the hotel.

We read some of the other reviews before booking with this hotel. The negatives always stand out when trying to decide. Being adventerous, we looked forward to trying this landmark hotel. Yes, it is old, yes, it needs updating, but what a glamorous building. Just like something out of a Hollywood movie. Staff was very helpful and courtious. Rooms were kept very clean. There is also the benefit of having a mountain view out of the east side of the building, especially the upper floors. The boom in Culver City adds additional excitement to the stay. Plenty of restaurants, small shops, banks and even a historical movie theater within 60 feet of the lobby door. All in all, I'm glad stayed at this hotel, rather than what is available in the LA area.

This hotel is centrally located and very convenient. There are several outstanding restaurants, a popular specialty grocery store, and a movie theater nearby within walking distance. The hotel itself was built in 1924 and was central to the movie industry back then. There was a problem with our air conditioner (it didn't cool); however, the maintenance people responded immediately and when the AC couldn't be immediately repaired, they brought a portable unit to our room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking is free with a coupon from the hotel. I would definitely stay there again.

The Culver Hotel has you step back to a time when elegance was the standard. You feel you have stepped back in time when you walk into the lobby, with the rich wood work, and marble staircase. After 5:00 p.m. the lights are lowered , the candles are lit, and the antique chairs and settee are filled with people who want a little old fashioned charm, with their cocktails and hors d'oeuvre s. Very attentive bar tender and excellent customer service, especially our waiter. The room was comfortable, and clean. One minor glitch is that because the hotel is old, therefore, the windows do not withhold the wind or the noise from the street. We were there in mid-February, when it was very cool at night. Somehow, though, that added to the hotel's charm. Overall, we loved it, there. We were centrally located to many restaurants, shops, and other famous sight-seeing venues. We would highly recommend this hotel.

We really enjoyed the hotel. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful, as well. Our only complaint was the paint in the bathroom was peeling.

I was not satisfied with this hotel whatsoever. The parking was VERY inconvenient. It is by a very noisy community. The windows to the room were open when i arrived. In the morning, there were ants in the bathroom. I was just not satisfied with the quaity of the hotel and how much i paid for the stay.

The orginally placed me in a room that was directly on top of a construction site. I requested a different room and that one had stains all over the floor the cups were very dirty.

The hotel was really cool, very historic, I liked the fact that it was near all the old studios. There was a movie theatre and some restaurants 30 feets away. The staff were really nice, and said hi to me whenever they would see me. The hotel provided free parking for guests, which was a bonus, although there was a lot of construction in the area of the parking lot and you had to come from a certain direction to get into the parking lot. However the neighborhood was really safe and local people were very friendly. The only other problem I had were that there were no wall sockets close to the bed, and the closest one didn't work. Otherwise it was a really interesting old hotel and I would stay there again.

Hidden gem not far from LAX. Charming hotel, friendly staff, great value, fantastic neighborhood (safe, lots to see and do with great local restaurants), easy access to expressways for business meetings in LA, convenient free parking, nice (free) continental breakfast, hotel has lots of ambience and air of Hollywood history (right down the street from MGM studio lot and next door to Culver Studio), free wifi internet worked well.

The lobby of the hotel is historic and fun with interesting art deco details. The rooms are decent and clean. The sheets were a bit threadbare and the towels in the bathroom could use some updating. But for the price, I guess I can't really complain. There were some service issues though, there were no spare blankets in the closet and my room was quite cold despite turning on the heat. I went to the lobby to ask for an extra blanket and was told by the unfriendly receptionist that housekeeping was closed and "Just turn your heater on." Are blankets really that hard to come by in a hotel? I also had a glass of wine in the hotel bar and was charged more than the menu price. Don't stay at the Culver hotel expecting great customer service, but if all you need is a bed in Culver city this play will do fine.

I spend 2 nights there, very quiet and the room and bed very comfortable. Charming salon downstair to have a last glass of wine with friends or a coffee before starting the day. I had a good time.

Kind of a funky cool old hotel, but there's some real challenges if you're a business traveler. There's no parking @ the hotel, and the street or lot parking is not too desireable. While they validate for parking @ buildings around the hotel, none of those lots are 24 hour, so your car might be trapped. The area is a bit seedy, but seems to be improving. Poor choice for families for safety reasons, and wi-fi connection, and other issues are too inconsistent for business travelers.

Customer service was excellent. People in the front desk were extremely helpful!

The Culver hotel is a gem. The location is excellent if you want to be near Santa Monica, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Downtown LA. Also if you do not want to go to far, check out the great restaurants near the hotel. An extra added perk behind this hotel is that its History and Architecture were the icing on the cake to a weekend romantic getaway.

Nice hotel, great location (safe to walk around at night, lots to do/eat within walking distance), nice views of the city. Nice bar in the lobby. Overall a very good boutique hotel.

It was fun to learn the history of the hotel....great lobby and exterior. The staff was fair.....not overly friendly or engaging. Our room on the Culver-side was fine and comfortable. The stair next to the elevator was difficult for my girlfiend.....short treads.The hotel is in a very good location. I would definitely stay again.

I was looking for a hotel that wasn't too expensive yet I still wanted it to be conveniently located. The Culver Hotel was perfect. It was close to Los Angeles as well as Hollywood and the hotel itself was very cute. The rooms have a cozy feel with all the basic amenitied provided also. I always love hotels that provide free wi-fi which Culver Hotel offered. The staff was beyond friendly and I couldn't have asked for anything more. It is a great deal for your money and it was everything I expected and more!

Although best known as the lodging for the munchkins during the filming of Wizard of Oz, the Culver Hotel is a delightful little slice of history. The renovation of the lobby/lounge/bar is well done, and it is a comfortable, though somewhat noisy place to meet for drinks. Although we didn't sample the bar menu, the food looked good and was well presented. All of the staff was personable and competent. The location is great - a short drive to the Getty Center, right off I-10. Easy to get almost anywhere.

While this hotel has its charm, it needs more attention paid to it. There was, for example, no clock in the room. Fortunately I brought my own travel alarm, but I would still expect to find a clock on the nightstand. The drain stopper in the sink was missing, so it wasn't possible to wash anything out by hand except to run it under the faucet. The drawer on the nightstand was broken so when I attempted to put something in it, the drawer almost fell out.
