Excellent location in city center close to train station and public transportation including airport shuttle. Only negative is negotiating one flight of stairs with a heavy bag although bellman will carry luggage up if you go to registration and request assistance. Room wasclean and neat, better than many places I've stayed. Highly recommended

We selected the Waverly for its reasonable price and central location, close to the Waverly train station. It was an easy bus ride from the airport and easy walk to the train station. The room was comfortable, nicely decorated, and had a traditional older hotel feel. We did not try the restaurant, but found the bar friendly and busy with a great view of the city lighted at night.

We liked the convenient location, the charming 6th floor room with portholes, the cleanliness of the facilities, and the helpful front desk staff. In addition, our room faced Princes Street and had glorious views of Edinburgh and the Scott Memorial. But because of that glorious view, we put up with hearing an almost constant bagpipe player situated at the base of the memorial the two days we were there & unfortunately our room was also next to the elevator shaft so we heard the sound of the motor every time someone rode up or down. The pay-for-view movies did not work in our room & the hotel staff did not seem inclined to find someone who could make them work, which was a bit of a disappointment to the two teenagers who were looking forward to kicking back after long days of sightseeing. Finally, our wake up call never happened the day we were to leave, which could have been a disaster, although we woke up on our own in time. All in all, an o.k. hotel for the money, but if I stayed there again, I'd ask for a different room and have my expectations firmly moderated in advance.

I stayed here just or one night, and it was value for money. You are right on princess street, waverly train station is also across the road. The only thing was my room was facing out onto princess street and it was quite noisy from the early morning traffic. Overall i would definately go back but i wiould ask for a room not facing out onto the street..

Right on Princes street this is a simple but very comfortable hotel. All the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and despite being a little small and a little old the place had a pleasant atmosphere. I tried a room service meal one night - it arrived quickly and was very tasty. My only advice is that it could be a bit tricky to get in to if you had a lot of luggage or had mobility problems, unless there was a second entrance and lift from the ground floor that I never found!

The hotel is very centrally located and we found all members of staff to be both friendly and helpful. Our stay was only for the one night however we did eat in the hotel resturant and again founs staff to be well informed of the menu are were able to describe courses and servings. This was ourfirst stay in the Old Waverly but I am sure it will not be our last.

We loved it that when we got off the train from London, we walked up the ramp with our rolling bags and the hotel was literally across the street and to the corner of the block. There is a narrow hall and some stairs to navigate with bags before you are at the front desk to check in. It was a little confusing at first. The location is spectacular. Our window looked out on Prince's Street and Edinburgh Castle, but the windows were so dirty, it was difficult to enjoy the view. The beds were hard and small and less than comfortable. The bathroom was fine and everything worked. We used the lounge quite a bit where the staff were all nice, and they serve a spectacular butternut squash and sweet potatoe soup that hits the spot for an early evening snack after a day of sight-seeing in the cold.

My friend and I had a trip to Edinburgh and i chose Old Waverly hotel as it had offered a special price for winter season which quite cheap. The most good thing of this hotel was its location as it was very easy to get to most of the tourist spots. Our room was faced to main road so we had a very good scenery view of the Edinburgh city. But the only bad thing was you must be a heavy sleeper otherwise the busy street of the Edinbusy will be disturbed your sleep. The food of the hotel was good and the price was reasonable for us. The reception staff was quite friendly as well.

Hotel was in a brilliant location. Rooms were very spacious. Restaurant staff were terrible. So rude, we only ate breakfast there once and they made you feel as though they couldnt be bothered. Reception staff were much better. I am returning to Edinburgh in May and i will not be returning to this hotel because of the way certain members of staff were.

In immediate proximity to Waverly station and close to a myriad of bus connections the Old Waverly Hotel is the ideal hotel for business in Edinburgh or for the tourist seeking a relaxing weekend. Just across the street from the Christmas fairgound where the kids (young and old) enjoyed themselves on the amusments we couldn't have picked a better location for our long weekend.

The Old Waverly Hotel is located along Princes Street, across from Scot Monument and close to Waverly Station. We stayed in a 3-bed room. Nicely decorated, modern. Very clean & comfortable. Much nicer than the nearby Royal British Hotel. Close proximitiy to New Town, Old Town, Royal Mile, and the Edinburgh Castle. They were a bit pushy about the hotel restaurant - so many great places nearby, why would we eat there?

Comentado por B, deLondon, el ago 16, 2008
The great thing about this hotel is the location. Absolutely central and within easy walk of everything that you would probably want to see. My visit was at the height of the Edinburgh Festival period and the price - though high - was probably OK for the accommodation given that prices get hiked at this time. HOWEVER, this is in no way a four star hotel. The accommodation was basic - albeit clean and comfortable - and the single room was barely big enough to take its double bed. Only basic TV channels are provided on an old fashioned small TV. The hotel is unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues as you have to climb stairs to even get to the reception. Service was adequate but again not of a four star standard. Altogether reasonable value for the Festival period but not luxurious n any way.

As with other reviews, the stairs to get to the lobby was the only downfall. The hotel staff gladly carried our large bags to the lobby. The elevator is small, but accommodated 2 people with luggage. The location and price was great and we had a great time. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Edinburgh and want a hotel near the train/bus station and the tour bus center. Shopping and sightseeing are within easy walking difference. Will definitely book again.

The hotel and staff were very good. However, if you are going to stay here, avoid any room ending in '04', as these are very small , which in itself isn't a problem, but the doors are located on the communal landing. Mine was on the second floor, which meant that everyone who couldn't be bothered to wait for the single, snail like, lift walked past my room on their way downstairs. Not a good recipe for a lie in!

The hotel was in a perfect location. Literally across the street from Waverly Train Station. We had a lovely view of Edinburgh Castle from the hotel, not from our room. Our room was adequate. Not too small, but not big. We had a "porthole" for a window and the furnishings were a bit tired, but we had everything we needed. Also the bus tours all started right across from the hotel and it is within walking distance of the Royal Mile. Staff was friendly. Lift was small.

Location was outstanding -- wish I'd known to take the ramp out to the other street instead of hauling my excessively heavy suitcase up the stairs to Prince's Street from the railroad station. Had no problem when I returned to the railroad station, as by then I'd figured it out! I about choked on the amount of potpurri smell in the main check-in area, but thankfully it didn't continue up to the 4th floor where my room was. Room was nicely decorated and had lovely high ceilings and a nice bathroom en suite. No soundproofing though -- walls must've been very thin because I could hear lots of street noise as well as all of the neighbors. Nice hotel staff - helpful and friendly.

Its very centrally located for anything you want to do in the New Town, very safe, and even though its on the main street, not too loud. Desk staff was helpful and very friendly. They should advise in detail how to drive close to hotel, how to transfer baggage from street to room, where to park car. Lobby is off Prince's Street on second floor up several stairs with no elevator. Tough on seniors. No driving on Prince's St. They are affiliated with a parking lot that gives 20% discount to hotel patrons but they didn't advise procedure to obtain discount. I walked several blocks to get car and was told that I should have validated parking card at desk before picking up car. Charge: £90 for three days! Food was very good.

This hotel has a FANTASTIC location, right on Princes Street and a view of Edinburgh Castle and Old Town from the front of the hotel. The room was like all rooms in Scotland and England, a bit small. However, it was very well taken care of and comfortable. The restaurant's food was very good (very "gourmet") and the service was fantastic. Of course, "gourmet" also stands for "was slightly pricey", but again, it was REALLY good. The porter service was helpful since there is no lift from the ground floor, only the 1st floor. The desk staff was incredibly accommodating and very nice. A totally fantastic stay. It is highly recommended.
