We travel to Chicago several times during the year and try to stay in different neighborhoods each time. This is the first time we stayed in the Loop and will be doing it again. The price was right, the location was great, and the staff was very accommodating.

This hotel is wonderful. It is in a great location and at a great price. I had access to everything in downtown and what most struck me was the price. The room was clean and had lots of room. I loved the EL was within walking distance. I would recommend this hotel.

We picked the Silversmith because it was close to my son's university and the South Loop, but were pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel had recently had an extensive remodel -- it was very nice. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel so you don't hear the "L" train at night and if you have a car, park a few blocks away to save a bundle!

The Silversmith was a very small quiet hotel. Very rarely ran into other people. Our room was extremely large. I felt as though it was twice as large as most other rooms I've stayed in. Very nice large updated bathroom and my room was always well put back together and cleaned when we arrived later in the evening.

The Silversmith is right in the heart of downtown Chicago. The hotel is hard enough to find as it is right at the junction where North Wabash becomes South Wabash. The room was a suite room and was an excellent size. The only negative aspect about the hotel is its proximity to the El trains outside. While it is very convenient to have a train station right outside the door of the hotel, it does mean that there is constant noise from passing trains. Also, guests not used to seeing elevated train tracks built over a street below might find South Wabash street somewhat dark and gloomy. Be sure to ask for a room at the back of the hotel away from the El trains.

i just returned from a three-night stay at the silversmith and couldn't have been happier. it exceeded my expectations. the receptionist (Patty) was always there with a smile and helpful information. The room was nicely decorated, clean and recently renovated. i asked for a room away from the noise of the L and was given a room on the 8th floor toward the back and it was perfect. the concierge on sunday night was helpful and pleasant. the location was a block's walk from the Millenium Park and bus tour. i would recommend this hotel and would stay again on my next chicago visit.

You can't beat the location of this hotel if you're taking in the Art Institute, other museums, historic buildings or need access to the metro or "L". The "L' was a bit noisy our first night, but we got used to it, and it was not a problem on subsequent nights.

Had a great 4-day stay in a 5th floor suite with 1 adult and 2 kids. Loved the spacious bathroom, with a ventilation system that ACUALLY WORKED, unlike almost every other hotel i have ever stayed in. Our room faced an empty courtyard, but we were not there for the view. The nearby El (entrance on the same block) could be heard in the room, but it was surprisingly not intrusive (more like a whooshing sound) and did not interfere with our sleep at all. 1 block from Millenium Park and Art Institute. Nearby 7-11, CVS, cafes, made it very convenient. Hotel and restaurant staff were universally friendly.

Basically, a very nice hotel for the money, but the noise of the elevated train is really hard to ignore when you're trying to sleep. Maybe they could invest in soundproofing for the rooms that face Wabash? Other than that, everything was fine.

Great location in the loop and only a few blocks away from Millennium Park. Clean hotel, decent rooms and good service. There are computers and printers free to use in the lobby. The Madison/Wabash subway stop is right outside the door, and has 5 lines that from there. Miller's Pub a few doors down is a chill place, and Exchelquer pizza a few blocks on the right is much better deep dish than Gino's East.

sobre value="10""Best Hotel For Money I've Found in Downtown Chicago"
Comentado por Kerry, deNorman, el ago 23, 2009
I've been to Chicago several times, and stayed in various locations (Hard Rock, Senneca, Holiday Inn, Swissotel) and so far, for the money, this is by FAR the best I've found. It's not as posh as the Swissotel was or anything, but the rooms were REALLY big as was the bathroom, the staff is nothing but helpful, the valet didn't charge me until checkout (though they do check to see if you have $50 to spend per day, so if you notice a withdrawl from your bank, this is what it is. They'll refund it once they make sure you have the money). The location is really good, too. It's not far from the Art Institute and that area, and there's a red line within easy walking distance, or a purple/pink/green right outside. From now on, this is where I'll be staying anytime I go to Chicago.

The two-room suite was a great fit for our family since our baby could sleep in the adjoining room. (Though the rooms are separate and there is a door, the walls stop about 2 feet from the ceiling. The bathroom is adjoining the bedroom so you don't have to go through the "living room" area.) The "El" (train) is outside the hotel but was not noisy enough to be a disturbance, we hardly noticed it. The only issue is parking - the valet rate is high and there is only street parking for loading/unloading. However, we parked at the Millennium Park Garage just 2 blocks away to save a little money and that worked out fine.

I stayed at the silversmith 8/12-14th with my 17 yr old son and his friend. The room was spotless not a thing our of place. We found out the building was on register of historic places.beautiful woodwork high ceilings, bed comfy and cozy .The staff was helpful, bringing me a replacement toothbrush for the one I had forgotten. the location is right in the center of everything up just s hort walk takes you to many sights. Yes the EL train does go close by the hotel, and you get used to it, just a swoosh sound not a major inconvenience. There is a deli attached to the hotel, ADA's and the food was good. This is my first time in Chicago and I love it!!

The Silversmith was a great value in a great location (a couple of blocks from the parks), and it is a well maintained property. Having read some reviews, and seeing the "L" tracks that run in front of the hotel, I asked for a quiet room. The front desk clerk spend a few minutes and found a room that faced the inner courtyard. Not much of a view, and there was still a bit of noise from the trains, but it did not disturb my sleep. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

I had first read about the Silversmith in a Chicago for Kids travel guide. Given that, hotel did not cater to children as much as I thought it would, but I would still recommend it for families. The suite was big enough to accommodate a family of 4 if the kids are 4-8 years old. There's no kitchen, but The Corner Bakery and Au Bon Pain are good breakfast options within a block away. The great advantage of this hotel is its proximity to the Art Institute, and Millennium Park. This is a great place for kids to run around, play in fountains, and enjoy the large modern art pieces, even a free outdoor opera at Pritzger Pavillion. The only thing we were disappointed with was the lack of information about parking costs until we got there. Nowhere on The Silversmith's website was there notice that parking was $42/night. Pretty steep, though probably comparable with other hotels in the Loop.

Parking was overly high, hotel staff at the desk was horribly rude telling us our reservation for a two bed suite was a request and not a reservation, no price break for the fold out couch that was horribly uncomfortable. Location is great, clean room, housekeeping staff was pleasant. We travel quite a bit and were shocked by the attitude of the desk clerks!

A girlfriend and I were in town for the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon and chose the Silversmith for it's proximity to the El, Grant/Millenium Park (start/finish of the race) and downtown. We had an amazing stay and a perfect weekend. Magnificent Mile, Pritzker Pavillion, Navy Pier are all within walking distance and there are great restaurants, bars and shopping nearby. Being so close to public transportation made it convenient to get to outlying areas as well - we took the El and Subway everywhere, very inexpensive and an easy way to get around. The hotel staff was incredibly helpful in finding us places to go dancing and were very friendly and personable. Our room was very comfortable and very clean. We're coming back for the race next year and will stay at the Silversmith again!

We just stayed in Chicago for a weekend, but the Silversmith was really exactly what we were looking for. The hotel is located less then one block from the Orange line out of Midway and just down the street from Michigan Ave. Taxis are available at any time and the price through Hotels.com was GREAT! The only real negative would be the noise from the train.... it wasn't loud enough to wake me up, but I could see it bothering lighter sleepers. The windows are extremely thick so it definitely kept the sound down, but it was still noticable. Would definitely stay here again if we make it back to Chicago. Great weekend!
