Comentado por a, deSurrey, el sep 24, 2009
Just wanted a place for one night dropping daughter off at cardiff without being in city centre, city hotels tend to be ugh! Couldnt fault service, breakfast ,room (except broken loo roll holder) having pre booked on line was pleasantly surprised to find we paid less than half price for double and breakfast, than what was on the tariff at the hotel. Situated in own small grounds in the middle of 'lake' ignore in the near distance, Pizza hut, carpet right etc! ideal base for cardiff without being in the middle of it.

Went on a mini break to Cardiff for 3 nights and the Copthorne Cardiff proved to be the perfect place to stay whilst there. We got an amazing price on Hotels.com so I was amazed at the quality of the hotel once we were there. We stayed in a standard room which was great - good beds, nice bathroom and we looked out onto the lake which was a really nice feature. There was even a fridge which is always useful to have cold drinks etc. All the staff were very friendly and made the stay that extra bit special. Made use of the swimming pool / jacuzzi which was all included - always nice after a long busy day! Breakfast was again very good with tons of choice from the hot buffet to the muffins and pasteries that were available. There was ample free parking and there is a bus stop about a 5 minutes walk away which takes 20 minutes to get into town and is £3 for an all day ticket (we decided to give the car a break for one day). Tescos, McDonalds, BK and more retail parks all around which is a bonus if you need anything. 5 stars out of 5 for me, we paid the same price as you would pay for a basic 2/3* and got so much more than that. Will definitely be returning in the future!

Comentado por M, deBirmingham, el ago 17, 2009
There were loads of issues with the room, and the annoying thing was that they were all very small issues which could have been avoided: No bathrobes, had to ring for this. No coffee available in the lounge. No wireless although told I would have access. Only small sandwiches available on night menu (11pm - 7am), soup and all others had apparantly run out at 11pm! We stayed in the upgraded "connoisseur" rooms and one of the benefits was a complimentary fridge - we the extra we paid generously for was: an apple, an orange, two cans of pop, two small bottles of water, a box of roses containing only six chocolates and a tiny bottle of wine (we dont drink). This was a waste of an upgrade. If you stay here my tip would be to stay in the standard room as splash out elsewhere with the money you saved. All in all I would think this hotel should be classed as a 3 star, not a 4 star, and in that case it would be a good 3 star.

Comentado por l, debrighton, el jul 22, 2009
The hotel was very easy to find. The check-in was quick but no information was given to us what-so-ever apart from the number room, no breakfast times, no location info, no check-out time given. The comfort of the room was excellent. We paid extra money to have added extras like dressing gowns, mini-bar, fruit basket etc. The fruit basket consisted of one kiwi and one apple on a saucer with no knife. The wine which was in the mini bar had no accompanying glasses. As it was my birthday we treated ourselves to a meal in the restaurant. The service was excellent but the food in relation to cost was most certainly not. Though I appreciate good quality food and this is reflected in the portion sizes there does have to exist some expectation in terms of quanity. I had a starter and a main and was incredibly hungry after; my starter and the lamb in my main was the size of the bottom of a cup. Two mains like this and one starter was £50. My glass of wine in the bar was also £6.70. I would like to add that my partner and I (both in our early 30's) travel alot and stay in good, top quality hotels where price is not an issue but we but do expect a certain standard. We will not be returning.

We had the room only for the night, arriving after 9.30pm, and it was clean but very old fashioned. The TV worked when we arrived for about 5 minutes - and then not at all. As it was so late, we did not ask for help with this. There was a sound of running water all night long, and the pillows were rather hard. The bed was comfortable and the bath/shower was good. It was much further out of Cardiff than we had expected. We were here for a graduation - would choose one closer to the Student's Union, if I were recommending.

I was surprised by how easy it was to get to the hotel from the M4. Great location, very close to the Tesco and Mc D's (if you were just looking for some value Wine and a milkshake). The room view was over looking the lake at the rear of the building. We made the most of the inclusive facilities, eg. the Sauna, Jacuzzi, Gym and Swimming Pool. I would definitely look to be bringing the whole family back to this particular hotel on my next trip to Cardiff.

The dining room's chairs are soiled and worn and the wood is in disrepair. The carpet is shoddy and the decor needs an upgrade. Considering the high prices they ask for average quality meals, some money could be put into the hotel. The rooms are very cold and there are no blankets and no noticeable way to adjust the heat. When the evening temperatures go down into the 30's F, heat would be expected. It is not provided - or is very very low set and at a minimum

The hotel was well located although the instructions to find it were not very good. It would seem that the road structure in Cardiff has recently changed as many fellow guests also found it hard to find. Once found the hotel was friendly with decent enough rooms and our stay was very comfortable. My only complaint would be that breakfast cost £15 which is outrageous for a full English breakfast served as a buffet. My sister also stayed at the hotel and received a voucher to obtain breakfast for £10 (still high) because she asked about breakfast. I wonder why not all guests are provided with this?

The restaurant service is slow; the food menu rarely changes so gets dull as I go there often. Great gym and work out facility that is free to guests which is a real plus. The staff are helpful, but not proactive, so you really have to ask for specifics. It is next door to our offices, so I stay there, although there is not a lot to do and it is about a 12 pound cab ride into the City.

We were in Cardiff for a concert at the millenium Stadium on the Saturday night. the transport links into the centre were excellent. Hospitality was good and each night of our stay we had a good sleep on the comfortable bed . we expect to return to Cardiff again soon for sporting events, concerts or shopping as we didnt realise how short a trip it is from where we live in Devon.

Great hotel, staff very accommodating, we went for the concert at the millenium stadium & travelled in via taxi ( only 10mins). Room was a bit stuffy and the views onto the nearby A roads not great. However, it's ideal if you want to go to the millenium stadium but not stay in the city!

This was a great hotel. The reception staff were very friendly, the rooms were large, well equipped and clean. The bar area was good and served food all day. Even after checking out of the hotel they allowed us to leave our car in their car park all day whilst we were in the centre of Cardiff

The cost of the breakfast was a staggering 15 sterling, thats 30 dollars for which I would expect alot more. Unbelievably you had to pay for the internet, in this day and age, get over it and provide the service and stop creaming people, your rooms are expensive enough.

Good room, excellent rate. Only criticisms: Very expensive to connect to internet. the table d'hote menu is the same every night. Charges £15 for breakfast when there is a McDonalds and 24-hour Tesco across the road where you can get breakfast at a fraction.
