We stayed for four nights at the Royal Sonesta in early Oct. The location is handy for a short, pleasant walk ( 20 mins max) to the Beacon Hill district. The riverside views are superb, but it comes at a price. Beware the 'complimentary' bottles of water they cost $5.5. It is not the type of place for those on a 'budget' and other hotels nearby offer more for less, but NOT the view. Cheesecake factory nearby offers a varied, plentiful menu at very reasonable prices, and Christine's diner does a good range of breakfasts

Great hotel, received a free upgrade and had a beautiful room overlooking the Charles River. Directly across from a mall with several restaurants. We also ate at the hotel for breakfast and lunch, sat outdoors and had good food with very friendly service. I would recommend this hotel based on location, price and service.

This hotel was one of the best I have stayed in, service wise. The staff was outstanding and went out of their way to assist us. I can't say enough nice things about them. We went to Boston to take my daughter back to school. We had large SUV along with Trailer, and the staff was outrageously helpful. We called ahead and advise them of our situation and they accomdated us over and beyond. The hotel location was perfect too, the mall was right across street. It had nice food court and DD coffee too. Only bad part was the our room had little mustie smell and they had to switch our room. Again they were very accomdating and did switch our room. I would stay there again.

On check in we asked if there was any possibility of a king bed instead of 2 queens which resulted in us receiving a very much appreciated complimentary upgrade to a river view room which was spacious, very clean and had a beautiful view and huge bed!. Unfortunately the hotel jacuzzi was out of order during our stay but was in the process of being fixed and this was our only gripe with the otherwise excellent hotel. The location is great - its easy to get into the centre via subway or 10 minutes in the hotel's complimentary shuttle bus and there's a very good mall with plenty of shops and restaurants just across the street. The staff were polite and helpful and it was very good value for money. Would definitely recomend!

The hotel was clean, great service, room service couldn't have been better (although a little pricy). We took a taxi to eat a few times, as there aren't any restaraunts in the area. That being said, the best restaraunt we ate at the entire stay was at the hotel! Art Bar is outstanding, one night (thursday) they had live music, 2 dudes with a sax and 6-string, they were wonderful. We ate there every other meal it was just that good, and reasonably priced. I would certainly recommend this hotel, especially with the river view room - a beautiful view.

I felt one of the greatest hidden costs for this overly elite hotel was paying $27.00 per night for parking, and $8.00 per hour for any guests that came to visit me. Food is high inside the hotel, as are things like water in your room, which I decided against at $5.50 for a bottle of water. There were other fees and such, which were unknown going in.

Great hotel and views..Location near tours, and taxis were always available..Car parking pricey at $27 per day..Everyone in Hotel (service folks) were great..Only thing needed was a less pricey breakfast area since so many folks seemed to be with their families, and a $15 plus price tag for continental was a lot..True a mall across the street, but only 2 fast food breakfast spots. Told this to management, as well as the need for a small newspaper etc area for the hotel guests. Otherwise, a great hotel and can't be beat for the value.

Royal Sonesta in Boston was everything we wanted it to be. The service was outstanding the staff couldn't have been more helpful. This was our first time staying out of the city and I liked it much better. We had an event at the Garden and that was why we chose to stay in cambridge. (with in walking distance) I would absolutely stay they again. The only thing that was a concern was breakfast at the Art Bar, it was very expensive and not worth the price, I would not suggest it for breakfast. There is another restaurant in the hotel that where we did not eat, might be more reasonably priced. However there is a mall right across the street that has a food court and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay very much and the river view is beautiful. They also had complementary things going on that weekend, with free ice-cream at 4:00 , a free river boat ride, also the hotel also offers bicycles for the guest and there is a path along the river right outside of the hotel.

We went on a mini vacation with our teenage son. It was perfect for us. When we checked in we were upgraded to a river side view and it was amazing. We will definitely stay there again and have already recommended it to friends. The front desk staff were wonderful. The hotel is right across the street from a mall, close to the T station and right around the block from the Science Museum which is a pick up for the duck tour. Also it is located right on the Charles which is beautiful. A few areas for improvement. Their concierge staff was not very nice, except for one person, who we mentioned in our survey for the hotel. We are from the area so it was easier for us, but I felt bad for people not familiar with Boston. They were grumpy and didn't seem to like their job. The only other complaint was the price for soda. Our teenager ordered soda at dinner and it was $3.95 for a 10 ounce bottle. The beer was only $4.50 so it seemed a little unbalanced. The parking was $29.00/night but seemed equal to other hotels so no surprises there.

The Royal Sonesta is a very nice hotel. Well kept, convenient, and modern. But the best feature is the people who work there! From the very start - at the curb - we met the valets who were fun guys who treated us with respect and a cheerful attitude. The front desk folks were helpful and very friendly. The staff who cleaned our room did an excellent job and didn't disappear when you encountered them in the hallways. We would go back again in a heartbeat. Very family friendly.

We chose the hotel for its location and price, and generally everything was fine; however, there was one problem that would keep me from ever returning. There was no sound insulation on the connecting doors on adjoining rooms. We stayed 5 nights and had 3 different sets of neighbors during that time. We could clearly hear everyone talking all evening and morning, making sleep difficult. I travel often and this hotel, or at least this room was among the among the worst I've ever stayed at. While the rest of the hotel had good points, its just not worth it if you don't want to hear your neighbors.

We reserved a room with two queen sized beds for two nights over the Memorial Day weekend, we made the reservation nearly two months before arrival, and paid for it at that time. One bed for my two sons, and one for my wife and myself. They were only able to give us a room with a king bed and then they brought in a rollaway bed. The room was odd shaped on corner of building and the rollaway literally blocked our way in and out of the room. There was maybe 8-10 inches of clearance to get passed it. Very uncomfortable first night with three in a bed. They provided free continental breakfast passes for all four of us for both days for the inconvience, and also on second day they moved us to a proper room with two queen sized beds. Not the greatest experience, but the staff was excellent and the hotel clean. Will not go back to this hotel again. There is no excuse for giving away a reserved room to someone else when you have already paid for it upfront.

I really liked this hotel, especially since I got a nice price on hotels.com. Compared to others in the area, like the Marriott, the bathroom was not quite as nice and there was no big armchair. That said, everything was very satisfactory and the hotel has a light, breezy, modernist feel that is very pleasant. Nice view of the Charles and very centrally located for Cambridge and Boston. Nice running along the Charles just outside the back door. I'm likely to stay there again.

Close to subway and where I needed to go. Great pool. Personally, a little too upscale for simple person like me. For the price I would have expected a little bit more freebies included--complimentary water bottle and snacks/mints. Also provided free shuttle service to some places but for my short stay, was not able to make use of them. Did not have a chance to check out where exactly the free hotel shuttle went. Was told it did not go to Boston University.
