Best Western Apollo Museumhotel Amsterdam City Centre - Ámsterdam

Literally next door to Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum! a short walk from Leidesplein with its restaraunts and coffeshops, and across the road from hop on hop off canal boat trips (14.50 for a 24 hour pass served us very well). Cab was really expensive to hotel, 20euro...we walked to the station on the way home which took about 25 minutes. Elevator was broken on arrival so had to take the stairs once, but was quickly fixed and staff were apologetic. Rooms are small but clean and the bathrooms are nice. Very simple rooms, no frills.

Hotel is in an excellent location but the rooms are incredibly small and the building work makes it almost impossible to have a lie in.

it's not the worst place i've stayed but i wouldn't go back. there's construction. the halls were dirty and had debris from construction in them. i was given a room in an adjoining part of the building which, instead of actual numbers on the door, had a piece of paper with numbers on it -- it felt like a fake room they had added at the last moment. also, the TV in the room was extremely tiny. while the room was clean the lobby felt like the nicest part of the hotel. the location is excellent and the staff were helpful. on the whole it's not terrible but it didn't feel quite worth a three star rating.

Please note the hotel is currently under renovation. We had looked at the reviews prior to booking and were aware of this situation. We stayed in a renovated room and our room was nice, but the bathroom and the shower were very small. Our room faced one of the streets but we didn't notice any loud noises. The folks at the reception were nice and spoke English. The lobby includes 2 computers. We found that the location was perfect because it was close to the museums, transportation, restaurants and was in a safe location. Not sure how long the renovation is going to last, but there were many frustrated travelers who were annoyed by the morning noise. Overall, I thought the hotel was good, although the morning breakfast did seem a bit pricey. If you walk across the canal there are many food options.

We were told that construction work was being done on the top floors of this hotel. However, we were given nice clean rooms by the staff who were also very friendly and helpful. Although the room and the bathroom were quite small, it did not pose a great problem unless one wanted to spend all their time in the room. The greatest advantage of all was its important location. Being at the heart of the city centre it was close to all the restaurants and entertainment areas. This was very useful in terms of moving around in the evenings and commutation was never a problem and the hotel was only a few minutes walk. Overall, the rooms were comfortable, nice and we had a lovely time. I would definitely choose to go back to this hotel in the future.

Nice hotel in good location.All attrections are in walking distance and public transportation within one block. Now construction is going. So there are some disturbances and inconveniences.Think better for the future.

I have over the last 12 years stayed here 4 times. I won't stay here again. The renovations left the rooms so small as to be impossible for 2 grown men. With the addition of the third floor, constructions starts 6:30 am (not 8 am as they tell you at the front desk). Breakfast is now extra instead of being part of the high fee. The hotel gouges guests for money. You can't easily get your luggage in the hotel--there is no ramp, only steps. They overbook and put the guest who arrive late in hotels much further away. You have choices in Amsterdam. I would make another choice and avoid this hotel.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is located around everything within walk distance or train. The rooms are small but it's european standart's. I would go back and stay there again with no doubts. Computers and printers avaliable free of charge plus the free wireless is big plus for the hotel.

This hotel is well located. Room was comfortable and clean but quite small for a twin. Staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel is very busy so book ahead.

I had room 413. It was at the bottom of a dangerous spiral staircase. The room was filthy. The brown carpet failed to conceal the black dirt. The room wasn't serviced. Used towels from the prior guest were in the bathroom and the outline of their body was on the bed. The TV had no remote, which didn't matter since it didn't work, (snow screen). The white walls had black dirt. Although they offered to clean the room, that would be impossible as it needed new carpeting, new paint and many repairs. I ended up going to another hotel.

Not the biggest room I've stayed in but it was clean, comfortable and in good order (even though there was some problem where the hotels central computer locked the mini-bar door!). Not a bad price, so I'd definitely look at staying again

Hotel was in excellent location! Right next to Rijksmuseum and only few blocks from Leidseplein. The hotel is currently being renovated which would be my only negative comment because if you want to sleep late on the weekdays they started loud construction around 9 am. Impossiable to sleep through! The rooms are VERY small compared to US standards but typical for European countries. Room was clean, bathroom was very clean and looked to be brand new (remodled). Great hotel for the price!

Very small rooms, but nicely decorated and modern. Could have done without listening to the drilling in the morning as the hotel is being ronnovated but thankfully it wasnt too early,. Great value for money, friendly helpful staff. Very clean, fresh linen daily. Fantastic location , right beside many of the meseums and attractions and only a short tram ride from many others. I would stay at this hotel again.

A clean and friendly hotel, the food was excellent and the stay pleasant. The only down side was an overbooking on our first m=night, which meant we had a lower standard room for night one, and had the inconvenience of moving rooms. Apart from that i have no complaints, free internet supplied in the foyer was a bonus too. I'd reccomend the food served here. We had, full breakfast included in the price, it was an excellent choice.

Great location, friendly & helpful service, good breakfast: but very expensive and was not included in the price of the room as I had previously thought. The one downside is the room is extremely small...no room to do anything but sleep, so if that doesn't bother you then it's a good place to stay. There is not a restaurant in the hotel at this time and only a few restaurants near the hotel, so that could be a downside too. They appear to be doing some remodeling.

My wife and I were pleasently surprised by the decor of the hotel. It had a modern look to it. Unfortunately we were given 2 beds in our room. We wanted 1 king size bed but we were 2 single size beds. The room was very close to all the acivities and the center of the city. The staff was very helpful and knowledgable.

We have requested a double bed and the hotel only had 2 single beds room available. Besides that they have wrongly informed that the Ann frank musueum was closed on the holiday of the first of january. We requested an early call to catch a train , and they only called 45 minutes after the specified time.

At first, we were given a very small room which they claimed consisted of 2 twin beds --- it was not. The bed was so small that even as I am only 5 feet in height, If I lay flat, my legs would fall off the bed. Because the room was so small, my husband and I could not breath. We asked to be transferred to a bigger room and they gave us a non-renovated room that was very filthy. We were not able to sleep the whole night because the upstairs guests were pacing the whole night and the the floor creaked with every movement. It also did not help that the windows were facing the street so the traffic below was very troubling. The following day, we asked for another room and this time we were given a renovated room. While it was cleaner, it was just as noisy. Their heating/airconditing system makes so much noise that again, we were not able to sleep at all. Also, you feel like you are in a dormitory because they lock the front entrance after midnight! You have to buzz in and they have to interrogate you for name, your room number etc! We will never stay at this hotel again. We stayed at different hotels on our vacation in Europe and this was the worst!

The room we were given at first was in the older part of the hotel, not sure why. We were told to take the elevator to a floor and then walk down an incredibly narrow winding staircase. We had large suitcases and they would not have made the trip! We looked at the room and went back to the front desk where a nicer young man helped us with another room. The second room was in the basement level with windows up high. It was remodeled and much nicer! The elevator did go to this floor! We just found out that the hotel charged our credit card in addition to having been paid by Hotels.com. We will work on this problem.

The hotel is having extensive renovations going on. This room was in the renovated part and was a good deal for the price. That meant that the room was small, e.g., it was necessary to sit on the bed to watch the tv which was hung on the wall. There are 2 computers in the lobby which could be used to check email, internet, etc. What was worth the stay for me was the location, less than 3 blocks from the main museums and 5 minutes walk from a neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants. Airport staff were friendly and helpful.

We really liked this hotel - it was extremely modern inside and was very clean. The room was extremely small (about 1/2 size of a normal room) so was difficult to get around, as did start to look very untidy once we'd unpacked due to the lack of space, but if you're looking for somewhere for one night, this shouldn't be too much of a problem. The location depends entirely on what you're looking for... the red light district and coffee shop areas where too far to walk comfortably, the museums were just around the corner. There were plenty of amenities, such as bars, food places near by. Overall, we thought this hotel provided excellent value for money and we would definitely use it again.

The first night was a very unpleasent. Then outside and the lobby and the first 2 floor were beautiful, well kept and clean but the 3rd floor is being remodled still and it was completely unexpected. The picture show what the remodled rooms look like and the only picture on the 3rd floor online is a zoomed in picture of the bed. It was dirty small, small, small. The ceiling and the top part around the show was moldy and the toilet had issues with flushing. The also use a shower curtain as a bathroom door.There wasn't even a phone. To top it off there was a blood smear on the curtain. I went back to the receptionist and she wasn't very helpful. She showed us another room on the 3rd floor and there was other people in it still (embarrassing). There was hair on our pillow as well. We weren't placed into another room until the next day which was the room that was shown in the picture but they made me pay extra which they really shouldn't have. That room was really nice comfortable and the best part, clean!! If you book your stay here make sure not to stay on the third floor is you want to have a nice stay and don't have high expectations for customer service.

My partner and I stayed at the Apollo for two nights and we had a great stay. The Hotel is situated in a great location within Walking distance to all the major attractions in central Amsterdam. The room was very small but of a high standard so perfect for a short stay.

I saw another review of this hotel complaining that the rooms were small; they are small but consistent with room sizes in most of Europe, SanFrancisco or Washington DC where older buildings have been updated. This hotel has an awesome location, right around the corner from the Park Hotel that charges 2-3 times as much. The rooms are very comfortable with free wireless, also computers and printer you can use in their lobby. Rooms have big windows to provide light and they open to let fresh air in. The cable TV provided many channels. The staff was very helpful. There is a Connexxion shuttle bus to and from the airport for E13.50 each way and it runs every 1/2 hour.

Very good service in the hotel however the room was quite tiny and looked a bit outdated. Anyway, the breakfast was perfect and the price was reasonable.

Upon arrival the hotel had no record of our reservation, but upon presenting a print-out of our booking confirmation we were checked in with no trouble. As with all of Amsterdam, the hotel staff were friendly, welcoming and spoke excellent English. Hotel is positioned alongside one of the many canals, on the corner of an exclusive shopping street (which is out of town and filled with boutique stores). Just over the road is the Hard Rock Cafe, which is a more than suitable place to unwind once you've checked in. The whole city is within easy walking distance. Failing that, the tram network is excellent. Would recommend this hotel for couples, families or business travellers - something suitable for all.

The hotel was centrally located (in the museum district) and easy to get to and from the trams. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We chose to have the breakfast and just wished it was diversified each day instead of having the same menu. We would definitely stay again and have already recommended it to some friends.

Hotel was in a great location..we walked almost every where we went. On the whole the staff were friendly and helpful. The one thing that could be improved upon.. there are no vending machines and there is no room service so if you get the munchies in the middle of the night you are out of luck!

The location and cleanliness of the hotel couldn't be beaten, but the size of the room was a bit small. The beds took up almost the whole of the room, so that it was difficult even to wheel bags in; there was barely enough room to open the door fully. The bathroom was comparatively spacious, though, and both rooms were very comfortable. The lobby and restaurant area is so vast (and well furnished and comfortable and sleek - just like all the pictures on the website) that the small size of the room was surprising. They should have expanded each room by a few square feet and cut the size of the public area...

Really nice, clean, freindly staff and good location. Rooms a little small but nice, clean and comfortable. If ever back in Amsterdam i would try to book the Apollo Museum Hotel first.

Located at a walking distance from everything you need to see in Amsterdam. Comfortable, clean and complete rooms at a reasonable price.

Cons: The room is absolutely tiny. The bathroom is just as appallingly tiny. The hallways are narrow. The breakfast is a bit expensive. They did not supply full-size towels one day because they had run out of clean ones, but I was told we could request clean ones in the morning. Pros: They did very well to make good use of the limited space available in the room. The room rates are reasonable for the market. The breakfast is delicious. The location is excellent, within 2 blocks of the tram stop, easy walking to Vondelpark and Leidseplein. They honored the DND sign on the door, and were nice enough to supply towels in a bag hanging on the doorknob. The soundproofing between the rooms is well-done. Internet access was fast and reliable. The room has plenty of power outlets. Misc: The room I was in did not have a mini-bar nor an iron/ironing board.

We stayed 3 nights in Amsterdam. Hotel was exactly as others wrote - close to everything but not in the middle. The neighborhood was very quiet. The room was TINY but very tastefully decorated and the bathroom was beautiful but also small. The floor does get covered with water from the shower but a towel takes care of that. Construction may be nearing the end as referenced in early reviews. We didn't see any although supposedly the upper floors were still being done. This place is feet from the Van Gogh & Rijksmuseum and a 5 min walk to Leidsplein If you're unsure of where to stay, this is a perfect spot. Take a tram from the Central Station 8 stops (the 7th is Leidsplein) and you're there. Take a tram from there or walk to the other great areas like Red Light District and Van Gogh Square. You get what you pay for. The place was very nice, not great but very nice and for the money it was a good value. Best part is that it has Air Conditioning, which I hear is rare in Amsterdam.

This place was great. It was located off the beaten path however was close enough to walk anywhere. There were plenty of dining options near by and going home was quite and safe. The room was very well put together and the bathroom was small yet very well designed. All in all this was a great place to stay if you are looking to have an adult experience in Amsterdam!

i wld go back in the morning,the staff were so helpful and the room was 1st class

first of all when we first arrived we felt very welcome and invited. we then headed towards our room all the way down the hallway and then down some very narrow stairs with 2 very large siutcases and no help offered. we then entered our room to a blizzard as the window had been left open and the central heating did not work. after 2 nights of waking up in the cold we finally managed to convince the staff to move us. it just seemed like they wanted to help but could not be bothered. also dont have a hot shower or the fire alarm will go off.
