Best Western Le Donjon - Carcasona

I really enjoyed my stay in the best western in carcassonne, it's a really good location, inside the "cite" walls, beside restaurants and shops, would definitely stay there again.

Stayed one night on a room only basis. Parked the car outside the city wall which you will have to do initially anyway. This was free. Didn't use the hotel car park inside the wall for which there is a charge - only real advantage is you that don't have to move your luggage far on check out. We opted for the five minute walk back to the car on check out which is fine if you are travelling light or have cases with wheels. There is a porter service if required. Room adequate and quiet but nothing special. OK for a overnight stay but wouldn't really want to stay much longer than that.

We stayed in the Ramparts of the hotel, which is a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. It's a bit of a hassle moving bags around, all the streets are cobbled. You also have to go back to the main hotel if you want breakfast for 12 euros, and also to check out and pay the city tax, around 1 euro each. The staff in the hotel were very friendly. The room was really small, needed updating, but was fairly clean. I would have expected more for my money, but I suppose you pay for the location. The location is spectacular (within the medieval cite), but be warned it is extremely busy, a tourist trap, not for relaxing.

we were here for our 40th anniversary and it didn't disapoint-lovely staff great location( our room looked over the ramparts) food good.Narrow streets confirmed good decision to leave car outside( can only bring cars in early morning and evening) but hotel provided transport for us and luggage.Would definitely recommend.

beautiful hotel in the heart of the medieval city.do not recommend that you try to drive to this hotel as streets very narrow and no parking there. supervised carpark at city entrance but quite a drag with bags.

The Hotel is full of charm and character. Staff are Friendly and helpful. Getting your luggage to the Hotel can be a problem during the hours when La Cite is closed to vehicle access, although we didn't find this too inconvenient.

Arrived in torrential thunderstorm and floods. Staff very welcoming and efficient. Room large and very comfortable, especially as I have a back problem. Restaurant could be much better but this was out of season and on a Mon night. Food edible, (steaks OK), when options of walking into the lower town not possible in a night of torrential rain. Other restaurant recommendations - good. Hotel bar warm and welcoming. A good stay. Would recommend it.

Warm welcome to a perfect hotel. We had a garden room with our own patio to sit in the sun. Within short walking distance to the important sites of Carcassonne. Just over the old bridge with a 25 minute walk to the canal and railway station. Plenty of good restaurants and interesting shops around the hotel. A super short break!

Great location, friendly staff

For the same price that we paid for a 4-star hotel in a great location in Avignon the Best Western le Donjon offered little in the way of amenities. There were no personal toiletries and the room was small and spartan. The hallway lights had gone out and were not replaced so that we walked into a pitch black hall to our room. However the staff was very accommodating and the bartender was especially nice. I have to agree with Rick Steves' advice that the location does not quite justify the price.

this was our first trip to Carcasoone. Less than 10 mins from the airport to the hotel. Could not believe the location of hotel within the walls of medeival city. Rightbeside gates of castle. Hotel was perfect. Very clean. Delux room with beautiful view. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location does not get any better than this. Sept a good time to go. weather lovely,and not too busy. Will definitely be back.

We stayed in the Ramparts annex of the hotel which is also in the main old city. The location is excellent, less crowded than the main Donjon building. A superior room on the 2nd floor had a great view of the surrounding country, @new@ Carcassonne and the best bit, the castle and ramparts.

Very impressed with Le Donjon. Our room was in the annexe known as Les Ramparts which is a few minutes walk from the main hotel. This suited us very well although some visitors may not think so. The room was comfortable and clean although they are a bit mean onthe supplies for the tea and coffee maker. I'm sure they would have provided more if asked but I feel one shouldn't have to. Toiletries were also rather sparse. However, these are minor deficiencies which could easily be put right.

Location is everything, and the Best Western Donjon is conveniently located in the old city of Carcassonne so that we were able to walk around well after the tourists leave for the day and before they arrive in the morning. However for the 'privilege room' rate we paid I felt that the hotel was very overpriced. Our room was small, but so are most European hotels, so that was not a problem. The hallway to our room smelled musty, and the motion triggered lights didn't work so that we walked into a pitch dark hallway to our room. There were no individual toiletries, but a liquid shampoo/gel dispenser inside the shower. The towels were very thin. The personnel was very nice and accommodating, so we did enjoy our stay. But we had just left the Hotel d'Europe in Avignon where we paid the same rate and had absolutely luxurious accommodations by comparison. It's probably not fair to compare, but I did.

Fun location, right in the thick of the touristy old Cite with shops and restaurants just outside the door. We had breakfast somewhere else though, simple but adequate and half the price, outside at one of the cafes round the corner in the famous square. Good value hotel considering the location, especially as we had a child and two adults in one large, very comfortable family room. Bit of a walk to the "other" city with high street shops etc though, or taxi. If you fly there, get the shuttle that waits after every flight right outside the airport and tell the driver which is your hotel. You'll have to ring the hotel to send it's little shuttle to the city gates or walk it yourself (not far) on the cobbles as buses/taxis can't go in most of the time.

If you plan to park at the hotel, the good news is that it is in a safe and secure area (which you do pay for). The bad news is that to get there, you have to navigate streets that were built to accomodate horses and plow through throngs of tourists to get out.

The only thing this hotel has going for it is the view.. the matresses feel like plywood.. The hotel is filthy.. The elevator did not work on the first day.. The heated pool was like being in alaska and was in need of major repair. When I checked out no one asked how my stay was and now I know why......

Carcassone is a magical city, and a stay at Le Donjon is "icing on the cake." The best part is being able to walk around early in the morning or late in the evening after all the day folk have left. The food at the Brasserie is excellent, especially "Le Cassoulet."

Überraschend feines Hotel mit zauberhaftem Innenhof und Garten (im Haupthaus), geräumiges (Deluxe-) Zimmer, das nicht mehr ganz neu ist, aber Flair hat. Wir waren mehr als zufrieden.

Essendo un albergo dentro la cinta muraria di Carcassonne, necessariamente l'auto deve essere lasciata nel parcheggio esterno, riservato ai clienti di tutti gli hotels della Cité. Dopo le ore 20.00, la macchina può essere guidata all'interno (sia direttamente, sia da un driver dell'albergo: consigliato, a causa del dedalo di viuzze medioevali strettissime!!!!) per essere parcheggiata nello spazio privato dell'Hotel Donjon. La mattina successiva, l'auto può essere condotta nuovamente all'esterno, assolutaamente prima delle ore 10.00. Tuttavia, se si è scelto di avvalersi dell'autista dell'Hotel, non è assicurato con certezza a quale ora l'auto venga portata fuori dalle mura. "Random", ci è stato risposto (noi dovevamo rimetterci in marcia tassativamente alle 8.00 -8,15 del mattino seguente). Abbiamo, perciò, deciso di lasciare fuori la vettura, nel parcheggio senza sorveglianza (molti bagagli erano rimasti in auto durante la notte). Questo, quindi, è un servizio che potrebbe certamente essere migliorato. Per il resto, la bellezza dell'Hotel Donjon e la comodità di trovarsi in "centro" sono IMPAGABILI!!!!!!

RAS au coeur de la citadelle, voiturier très compétent, PD servit en chambre idéal pour amoureux!

Un service impeccable, des chambres du moins la mienne grande aérée, bien meublée, une literie impeccable. bref cet hôtel est irréprochable.

Personnel accueillant . Chambre tres correcte. Le seul hic pour moi a été le petit dejeuner: 11€ en plus par personne pour du jus d'orange en boite / des oeufs froids et des croissants de la veille...

One of only two hotels right in the heart of "la cite". Really amazing by night as tourists leave this place (small and nice restaurants). During daytime overcrowded. Nevertheless a great experience. Book in advance
