As aged and historical as the physical building is its still the best centrally located place to stay in Rome. I have no complaints about room, staff. My only beef is the ridiculously antiquated and overly expensive wi-fi internet business office situation. Its from Noahs Ark and there is no excuse whatsoever for Starwood to tolerate this back to the dark ages functioning. But the charm of the people in the business office overcame some of the nonsense of the only one-log on at a time and no warnings of time expiration.

You definectly expect more of a 5 start hotel. The day of the check out we have to wait for almost 2 hours, as the bell boys were doing nothing in the front of the hotel, and no one from the front desk care about helping the guests with the luggage despite our many complaints. They also wanted to charge me for an extra person, which it was already included in the booking price. The breakfast is extremely expensive! and just a few blocks you can get a complete breakfast for approximately 10.00 euros. Aside from the above, the hotel is located in an excellent area and within walking distance from the everywhere.

we stayed there for four days, I loved it! i´ve being several times in Rome and stayed in the best hotels, and Excelsior tops them all in service, the rooms were very good, but the concierge carlo was MAGNIFIQUE!, HE WAS SO HEPLFUL, very cool, and professional. The food at Doney is really good. I do recommend this hotel; great service, always clean, friendly staff and the best concierge in Rome.

The hotel is beautiful and the location is great but the staff is not so good. Very unfriendly and not very helpful at all. Could not recommend with so many other great hotels in the area.

The hotel was nice, but not worth the $400. The location was good and the spa was nice, but we were so busy site seeing we didn't have anytime to take advantage of the pool. The hotel rooms were very old and ordained, but clean. We stayed at the Starwood Metropole for 1/3 of the cost and we were only a quick subway stop or cab ride away from all of the main attractions - The rooms were nicer and the service was just as good.

Via Venato is a great location for the hotel. Walking distance to the heart of Rome. The rooms were large by European standards and clean. Lots of great trattorias and restaurants nearby. Vey close to the beautiful Bourghese Gardens

Aside from this being a very luxurious hotel, the best feature was the location. We were able to walk to many sights and access the subway if needed. Taxi stand is right on the corner as well. It was also quite nice having a shower that you could actually move in. One glitch was not getting our luggage for over an hour upon arrival. We would have been more understanding had the concierge not told us it was on its way up after each of two phone calls (which it wasn't). All in all though a wonderful stay.

The Excelsior is without doubt one of Rome's top hotels. It's decor is grand, combining an "old-world" feel of luxury with modern conveniences. The room was good and, with tempatures averaging over 30 during our stay, the air conditioning worked well. Whilst you accept that capital city prices are higehr than elsewhere, be careful with the bar and room service costs! Breakfast (at 30 euros each) was very steep, however there are several bars just down the street offering much better value (10 euro for bacon, eggs, juice & coffee/tea). Good restaurants abound in Rome - we ate at several down little side streets and were not disappointed once.

This hotel (we've had better) is conveniently located a few subway stops past the main train station and is within acceptable walking distance to the Spanish Steps and the Borghese Gallery, a must see museum. As with previous customers, you can avoid the hotel's exorbitant prices for your morning joe by going across the street to the Paris cafe or just up the street for even cheaper prices (buy your own wine and water too). Our only concern is that the bell desk seem more interested in helping themselves out (with referral fees) than helping their guests (the guy charged us two Euros to mail a post card that never arrived and a cabbie we used for the airport during "off-hours" claims the bell hop charged him 15 Euros for the referral).
