I have now stayed here twice, both times very nice and comfortable rooms. Higher floors better as away from the extremely noisy street below, where the trailer park trash are partying , especially on Friday and Saturday.

Stayed here for four days. On arriving at the hotel i was very disappointed with the exterior as the paint was peeling from the windows and walls. However there seemed to be renovation wor going on behind the hotel so maybe they are painting the front. Inside It is a really nice hotel with an old world feel to it. The rooms were nice and comfortable and the bathroom was really nice and spacious. Staff at al times were really friendly and helpful and i enjoyed my stay at the hotel. What i was disappointed with though was that on the first night of my stay it was very wet outside and the roof in the lobby was leaking so the staff had placed buckets to catch the rain. This didnt really affect my stay in any way but it did not paint a good image of the hotel. Another thing is because the hotel is right on the promenade it can get quite noisy for those who are very light sleepers.

Mistake I made was not going through the reviews, the hotel on web site looked spectacular in pictures but this was not the case when arrived. Was there for five days, decor was old, when you got the floor the room was on you had another ten stairs to reach the room really narrow corridors. The bed in the room felt as if it was on a slant, cleanliness of room was good but was really old fashioned. Wouldnt recommend it.

The reception at The Old Ship was warma and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel certainly looks better in the pictures. Admittedly it is an old hotel, but I would have guessed that was more of a reason to keep it looking good. The room had a big damp patch and the decor was very tired. The bed was comfortable and generally the place was clean. We had a fire door outside our romm which banged every time someone came through it until about 2am and restarted about 7am. But we were awake as the bins were being emptied outside at 5.30 We put a sign on it for the second night asking for people to close it quietly. The hotel might want to do this, or fix the door damper. Breakfast was fine and the staff nice. I don`t think I would stay here again for these reasons and that at £15 a night, the parking was expensive. What happened the courtesy of a parking place when you stayed at a hotel. We had a much better hotel in central London the previous two nights for about the same price.

This Hotel is very central to all main attractions, many restaurants and right on the sea front. I stayed for 5 nights and was disturbed by fire alarms for 2 nights.( At least I know they work.) Otherwise I had a pleasant stay, the Staff had good customer Service skills. I liked my room but I felt that the hotel could do with freshening up and a good spring clean generally. Glad that I had a kettle andd Iron/ironing board in my room. I particularly liked having a bath and a king size bed. I would come back and stay again.

we spent three nights in this hotel and found our room to be large clean and comfortable with a super view of Brighton seafront and pier. Breakfast was adequate and the staff polite and helpful. Only downside was this hotel is placed very close to 'clubland' so the noise on a saturday night from the party goers was relentless and did not cease til dawn. I would recommend asking for a quiet room on one of the top floors or at the back of the hotel. The front of the hotel does look a bit 'sad' and in need of a facelift. Overall not a bad experience but if it's a a quiet saturday night you are looking for this may not be the hotel for you, if you want to party this hotel is perfectly placed.

Wonderful location, overlooking the beach, easy walking access to the Conference Centre, the Lanes, good restaurants, shopping etc. The room was very good and the bathroom excellent. However, finding the parking was a nightmare. Despite phoning ahead they did not tell me that the near by parking was undergoing renovations and that once one found it (20 minutes of driving in circles) and parked the lift was broken and I had to carry my bags up several flights of smelly stairs. Could not drop suitcases off as there was a bus parked in the only possible pull off near the hotel. The food was average at best and service very sloppy considering the rating of the hotel. They charged £2.50 for a decaf coffee which consisted of a cup of hot water and a sachet of instant decaf! Recommedation: Eat out

We booked 2 double rooms at the hotel and when we arrived discovered that they had given us the 2 rooms but one was at the front of the hotel and the other was at the back of the hotel. We I got to my room it had a disgusting smell of tobaco, I went to the reception and they changed our room without quibble to a room beside the other that was booked, it even had a beautiful sea/pier view. The bed was comfortable but the decore really needs updating as there were marks all over the walls as well as cracks. There was a hole in the bathroom ceiling above the bath that leaked water early in the morning which woke me up and i had to place a towel under it to stop the noise. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was pricey and not really worth it, much cheaper to buy a permit for a few days.

The hotel was on a nice spot by the sea, in an old building, but recently renovated. The hotel is very good, but this I expected. The hotel restaurant however exceeded expectations. The menu is quite short, and did not seem very exciting at first; things such traditional fish&chips and such were offered. However, all of the food we ordered was great. We had a terrine of mackerel, and whitebait to start, and the fish&chips, and a pasta dish as main courses. They had managed to make the whitebait and the fish and chips taste light and still the battering had the taste it should. The other dishes were excellent as well, and service was friendly. If I'm ever in Brighton again, I'll definitely think to eat there again.

Receptionist was slow and had to ask advice - the answer given was in fact common sense. Standards of cleaning in public areas left a lot to be desired - we arrived on Saturday evening and noticed some small items of rubbish on the stairwell between first and ground floor (bits of tissue and a cotton bud) and some small chips of wood in the lift area. When we left on Wednesday morning all were still there. Breakfast advertised a selection of cheeses and meats, there was never any mneats and we only saw cheese once. Hot selection consisted of bacon, sausage, fried eggs, beans, tomato - scrambled egg by request, no poached egg/mushrooms/hash browns/black pudding. On one monring the hot selection had been cleared before we got there at 9:45 and the waitress had to get the chef to cook for us - not impressive !!! impossible to sleep after 6:30 most mornings - bin waggons servicing the hotel and nearby premises

The room I had was on the first floor- and facing away from the sea. It was quite small and although generally clean the bathroom could have been cleaner. The worst aspect was that I had to be up early for work the next morning so went to bed at 10pm- but couldn't sleep as the noise from the kitchen extractor fans was so loud. I complained and they told me the fans would be turned off- but it want's until 11.30pm that the noise eventually stopped. On the bright side, the breakfast staff were cheery and friendly and the food good!

only ever good hotel if you do not want to sleep; noisy from the outside (despite being on 5th floor and windows closed) as much as inside - topped off by receptionist calling to tell me that we were too loud (people in next room might as well watched TV on our screen) I am sure 4 stars are justified following standards - however, I assume someone makes a business out of JUST meeting the standard (and only when a review is due) personnel is very varied - some are very helpful but most of the younger ones make it their business to ignore customers - so Thanks to the lady that always opened the door when I left the hotel with my little daughter and shame on her colleagues

The Hotel is ideally situated and over the last two years has been nicely refurbished in the lounge areas in particular. The bedrooms seem to be a little tired decoratively speaking..The staff are very efficient and cheerful. The downside is,that if you want a Seaview and in particular during the Summer you must expect to be woken up between 1.00am and 4.00am when the clubs empty out.Our recent stay (March)was marred by being woken between these times and would stop me staying here again sadly.

the hotel doesnt look at all like on the pictures published on the internet, i have no idea how they got 4 start rating as i wouldnt give them even 3 star... the interior looks old-used and dirty, the rooms are in very bed condition, broken window, dropping tap etc. a nightmare. and extremly overpriced. i got the feeling that im staying in a hostel, the only difference is that i didnt have to share the room with strangers...but almost as the walls so thin that i could hear all the noises from the room next to mine. Avoid to book this hotel if you dont want to ruin your holiday!

I was very impressed with this hotel. It is in a great location in Brighton and although when I arrived I was a little disappointed by the lobby and communal areas, my room was an impressive size, very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was large with an excellent shower and I would definately go back. In contrast I stayed at a nearby hotel (a much more expensive one) the next night and it was half the size and no where near the value for money. I would certainly stay here again when in Brighton. Also the hotel has parking which is a bonus as this is a rare comodity in peak season!!

Styr unna!
