This hotel was quite charming and I really appreciated the location of it. It's located right next to the pier. My fiance and I stayed there and the room was very comfortable and the staff were very pleasant. I am definitely going to stay here again. I'm actually planning another trip back to Brighton and The Royal Albion is definitely my choice for the hotel I'm going to stay at.

the areas that have been refurbished are excellent, our room was tired but very clean and comfortable the bathroom was cleaned well but was very much in need of a update. the maid service along with reception was second to none, the buffet style restaurant for breakfast was a bit hectic at times however the food and choice were very good. EXCEPT the coffee, this should be avoided at all costs. All in all a very enjoyable stay and we will be returning with high hopes when the refurb is finished.

really great location, easy to find on foot from train station as its right opposite the pier. our room had a lovely sea view and wasn't too put off by the scaffolding due to outside being painted. the bed was a small double and a little uncomfortable. the rest of the room was great with tea making facilities. our shower was not a very strong flow and didn't seem to get very hot. the breakfast was amazing, a wide selection and choice, something for everyone. staff were polite and helpful. we would stay here again.

Large hotel. Perfect location minutes away from the Beach, Pavillion, Pier and lanes - all within easy walking distance. Very clean accommodation. Buffet style breakfast good. Hotel was being renovated, the scaffolding outside did spoil view from window to the seafront but I believe this was reflected in the price. However carpet by window was in 3 sections, curtains not properly fixed to the rail and plaster crumbling by the window. Spoilt look of room but did not spoil stay. Good Value for money. Will be great when all refurbished.

I wish to complain as given superior room with sea view but scaffolding up and netting obscuring view.Walls had mold on and lights in bathroom not working.Tried to open windows as hottest weekend this year but rotting and would not open. Asked for iron but no reply after 2 hours. Went to reception they said they knew nothing of this. Poor girl on reception left alone to deal with problems lots of people complaining!!! Only plus point was good location.Hate complaining as a manager in service industry and know how people can be but spoilt our weekend away.Used hotels.com before and had great results.

Excellent location, helpful staff, very good breakfast, reasonably priced evening meal and quality was good and view from dining room directly over the sea. They are the good points. On the down side I had booked a 2 night stay in a single room which was very dirty but worse there was only a couple of foot between window and a wall and it trapped wind which sounded like a hurricane. I would not have got any sleep, asked to be changed and was to a twin room which was far superior but had the hum of a generator which never stopped. It was certainly better but not everyone would want to listen to it all the time. Only one very small lift which is extremely slow and used by the staff moving large trolleys at a time when guests want to go to breakfast and are checking out. As I said it was a mixed bag, some bits was very very good and some not so good.

This hotel is situated opposite the pier entrance, within walking distance of The Lanes and many good restaurants. Some of the rooms are looking tired (carpets, decor, etc.), but the hotel was very clean, and they are currently working on improving the exterior. We had a sea view (without requesting this) which was wonderful. The hotel seems to be frequented by stag and hen parties, so if you were unlucky enough to be in a room near these, it would be noisy on their late night / early morning returns. Breakfast had a large selection (the usual). The only downside was having to queue for the cooked food at busy times. Only 1 lift for a large hotel. Good value for money

the hotel may be undergoing some referbishment, however the wallpaper was peeling in the room, the windows shook in their frame when the wind blew and only the minimum cleaning was carried out, i.e. bed and bathroom. The room wasn't expensive, but there is a standard you expect from any hotel. Britannia have a way to go.

We paid for a superior room, seaview, but the room we were allocated was not smoking, had no airconditioning and the windows were nailed shut, so no ventilation. When we complained, we were allocated another room. This room had NO view. It looked out into a black hole filled with kitchen, heating and air conditioning plant that rumbled ALL night keeping us awake. Nonetheless we agreed to the room because the hotal offered us a refund of 10gbp per night, which we never received, and it had jacuzzi bath and air conditioning. When we complained that the air conditioning only blew out hot air, we were told that the air conditioning did not work anywhere in the hotel. Also the restaurant food was appalling.

The hotel did have a good location and veiw, overlooking Brighton pier. This was impressive at night with all the amusement lights. As you step into the hotel the reception area is well presented and tidy. However once we got to our room this changed. The windows were completely damp and rotted, so much so that they had placed 2 towels in between the closure of the windows at the bottom and middle. This just got even worse because the room was excesively hot and the excuse of an air conditioning unit was laughable. Firstly it did not make any difference to the temperature of the room and was so either old or broken that it soun ded like a constant hoover going on in your room. It would be impossible to sleep with it on but unbearable to sleep with the heet. Because of the state of the windows we were unable to open them resulting in 2 sleepless nights....not what you want after paying proper money for a hotel.

When we arrived we had to queue for 20minutes to check in, we were then given a room in the basement with no windows, the extrator fan was not working, no remote for the TV or ability to control the volume. We asked to move and was given a room on the 5th floor. This was fine except that the sash windows were about to fall out, when my husband went to open it, this feel into his arms. Also due to the windy weather it made the room extremely noisey and cold as one of the panes in the window was about to fall out. The other issue was that they had failed to provide toilet roll in the room. On return on the first evening from a good night out in Brighton, we queued at reception for our key, to be told they could not find it and that perhaps another member of our party had already taken it. There was not another member of our party, just the 2 of us! Eventully this was found left on the counter, but took about 10 minutes before they could locate it! We choose this hotle as we had previously stay there before and enjoyed it. We don't plan to stay there again.

We got there at 1pm to be told check out is at 11 and check in is at 3pm! So we decided to step out - only it was raining and the hotel did not lend brollies to guests. The floorboards are creaky and the hotel rooms and restaurants have all got leak stains on them. The curtains in our room were about to fall out and we could not draw them, thereby sleeping under the light of the streetlamps. However the "best" was yet to come. The breakfast was the worst I have ever seen. Frozen sausages that were still undone and raw in the centre, beans straight out of the can, tomatoes which are canned! All this given that the hotel was similiar price to Holiday Inn or the Thistle!

I have stayed at some nice properties from this chain in the past....but this stay was a disappointment. For 10 pounds I upgraded my room to have an ocean view. The wall paper was peeling off the wall and was seriously smoke stained. The finish on the furniture had worn off many years ago in most places. The hallway smelled terrible. Accidentally left my reading glasses in the room, but no call to inform me I had left them behind....and they pushed me not to use my credit card due to the transaction fees charge to the hotel, so I paid cash. I'm not a real picky guy, but overall this stay was not very good. There is one plus. Great location across the street from the Brighton Pier.
