The hotel was dirty and bathroom fixtures were in need of repair. The AC was not properly installed and we tried fixing it but were not successful. When we complained to management, they gave us another room but the conditions were not any better. Left the hotel and located another room at another hotel. Would not recommend this hotel.

We found this hotel at the last minute because we wanted to stay near the Eiffel tower for just 1 night and picked it mainly because of the location and somewhat reasonable price. We had 3 people in the room and many hotels did not have room for 3 people in the same room since traditional hotel rooms in Europe are typically very small so our options were limited. First off, the Hotel is very close to a Metro station so that was good. When we walked in we were greeted by a nice lady who helped us set up a bus sightseeing tour. We were then showed to the elevator which was only big enough to fit three people (or two American's) so it was a challenge. After getting to our room on the third floor our first impression was that it was very hot in the room as it did not have cental air. There was a portable AC unit by the window but there was no plug anywhere nearby so we had to roll it in front of the small desk in the middle of the room and turned it on with hopes the room would be cool by the time we returned. We were in a hurry to leave but when we got back, the room was even hotter than before. I spoke with the front desk and he came up right away and said that there should have been an escape tube that goes out the window. There was no such tube in the room so he had to get one from another room. After he found one and plugged it in the unit did let out some cool air but that only lasted for a short while then the unit got some type of error message and we knew we were in for a rough night. My other complaints with the room were that the bathroom had one large window that went nearly from floor to ceiling. It opened into the room like a door and it faced a courtyard with adjacent buildings or other rooms. Now, while the glass was slightly tempered, there was no curtain or anything to cover it for privacy so unless you were somewhat of an exhibitionist, it did not provide the sort of privacy one would expect. The window also would not close as through it's many year

Hotel Derby Eiffel has a good location; it was a treat to walk a few steps outside of the hotel and see the Eiffel Tower as we walked to the nearby metro stop, taxi stand or cafe (BTW, I recommend getting breakfast at one of the nearby cafes rather than at the hotel, as the prices are better at the cafes). However, our overall satisfactory experience was marred when checking out: we had a 2 Euro phone charge and as we had just enough cash to use for a taxi we wanted to use our credit card to cover the phone call charge. The desk employee (and then the manager)expressed their dismay that we would not pay cash, explaining that they would prefer to avoid paying the additional fee for the credit card transaction. I said I was sorry but as we had just enough cash for our cab we would have to pay with a credit card; if they had posted a sign at the desk noting their preference for cash-only transactions (as the cabs do) I would have arranged to have extra Euros. If management wants to recoup credit card fees why don't they charge more for phone calls? I have stayed in several hotels in the U.S.and Europe and this was the first time this has happened to me. It strikes me as poor customer service. This may sound like a small issue, but it nonetheless soured an otherwise satisfactory stay to the point that I would not recommend this hotel and will certainly not return to it on future visits.

Hotel was in ideal location, within 200 yards of Ecole Militaire metro stop and within easy walking distance of Eiffel Tower. Lots of shops and restaurants in the area but just far enough from actual Tower so that area was not crowded. Rooms were of adequate size, a little on the smaller side, but unless you plan being in the room for large periods of time you will be happy. We spent our days sightseeing and used the room as just a place to sleep. The room was very clean. Front desk employees were helpful with dining ideas and friendly overall. No complaints and the price was right given the quality and great location.

We booked less than a week before we arrived and chose this hotel because it had a cheap deal at the time. I wouldn't have paid full price, but for price we paid the room was better than expected - it wasn't fancy but it was clean, had comfortable bed & pillows, a nice bathroom, enough space for luggage, a big window & portable a/c. The staff were friendly and helpful. The best part about the hotel is its proximity to the Eiffel tower and the metro station. Not a big range of restaurants nearby for the evening meals, but good transport links to other areas of city. There is a supermarket nearby too which was really handy.

Old hotel in a great location, rooms could use an update, stains on carpet, small portion of a mirror cracked. Hotel staff was relatively friendly although we had minimal contact with them on our short stay. We requested a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower at checkin and they gave it to us which was great. The location is excellent, only 15 min walk to the tower, 1/2 a block to the metro and in a great neighborhood. Overall I would say great place if you are going to Paris on a tight budget.

Stayed at the Hotel Derby Eiffel for one night. Good points, GREAT location about half a block from the metro, 15 min walk from the eiffel tower and numerous cafes right out the front door in a great neighborhood. It was relatively inexpensive. This hotel was rated a three star but it seemed more like a two star to me. The staff was relatively friendly and spoke english very well, but we had minimal contact with them on our short stay. The bad points were that the hotel is old and out-dated, probably part of the reason it is not as expensive as other places. Carpets were stained, part of a mirror in our room was broken, and the air-conditioner was mediocre at best. All minor inconveniences to us as we were there to see Paris, not our hotel room. Bottom line is its a great place to stay if you are going to Paris on a budget.

The Hotel Derby Eiffel is great and don't be put off by other reviews saying the rooms are to small. If you are in your room long enough in Paris to notice it is to small, you're an idiot. This hotel is a half block from the Metro and the surrounding neighborhood has everything needed for fun and relatively inexpensive food/drink. The folks who work the front desk know the town and were very helpful. My first trip to Paris and I found the city is only as expensive as you want to make it.

This hotel is in a great location, just around the corner from the Eiffel Tower and Napoleons Tomb/Armee Museum. There are many good restaurants/cafe's in the area where the staff speaks English, check out the street Rue Cler. The hotel staff is very friendly and speak English well. The room is small, really small but tidy and relatively clean. The carpets have some stains but nothing gross. The bathroom was very clean. The beds are small and firm, but I liked that. This is a hotel where you are going to Paris on a budget and that you are not planning on staying in your room and being pampered. Nor should you stay like that in Paris, you'll want to be out a lot. The walls are really thin so bring ear plugs. But its a great stay for the price. I would stay there again on the same budget

The location of this hotel was fantastic. We were in a room that had a veiw of the Eiffel Tower. We were within walking distance of everything. We had purchased the Visit Paris train and bus pass but only used it to get to and from the airport. There is so much to see and experience while walking to and from everything. I was so surprised how reasonable the food was priced. The area the hotel is in is perfectly safe well into the night. The surrounding shops and restaurants are wonderful.

Our room with a view of the Eiffel Towel from the small balcony, although small was cleaned and adequate for our duration three nights. We would definately return here due to loaction. We did not have breakfast at hotel (12euros) as there are plenty of cheaper options nearby at the many bars and bistros around the area.

This is a lovely little hotel, very nicely located only seven hundred and fifty m from the Eiffel tower. I would recommend this hotel to a friend, six of us (men) stayed for three nights in three rooms. There are plenty of places to eat around and a Metro station literally just around the corner. There is also a Taxi rank around the corner but it can be hard to get Taxi's during busy hours. The hotel rooms are small but functional, cleaned every day and are fine once you don't intend to use them for anything other than sleeping in at night. There is a small fridge and a closet, a TV with free and Pay per View movies. We had three rooms and each had an air conditioning Unit in the corner, a standalone unit, which did the job but was a little bit noisy. There is a fine en-suite bathroom with a small bath and a shower. They have a nice lobby and a comfortable bar area with a large TV and sell bottled drinks. The Staff were lovely, very friendly and accommodating. I'll certainly go back again because I really want is a base that is close to the Metro. It was also nice and quiet at night time, which was great for getting a good sleep. Enjoy.

It was within walking distance to all the sites, the market and many restaurants and bakeries. The staff was very friendly, accomadating and spoke very good english. As a single female travelling through Europe, I felt very safe and comfortable in this hotel. My only complaint was that I was told my room would be non smoking and it reaked of cigarettes. But, as I understand it, it's not easy to find a true "non-smoking" room.

Be prepared for the European small room, small hall leading to the room and no frills atmosphere. If you're prepared for that and have your expectations in line, this place is great. Clean, comfortable room that was very small and hardly any floor space. One English tv station, but who stays in the room while in Paris? Great neighborhood to walk in and enjoy the atmosphere of Paris. Within walking distance of anything you read about if you're willing to walk quite a bit. Very safe neighborhood to walk in, even at night. I'm a single woman that felt totally safe at all times. If you want to walk less, there is a metro station very near the room. It is a definite recommend on my part.

Fairly good location opposite the Ecole Militaire and close to the Eiffel Tower (if you're lucky enough to get a room at the front of the hotel you will get a great view of the Eiffel tower). Metro system is great and q cheap and a station is just round the corner from the hotel. All major attractions a short ride away. A few nice restaurants in the area but area generally quite quiet.
