Royal Ettrick Hotel - Edimburgo

The hotel is very tired and needs a refurb. The carpets going up the stairs were worn. Going up the second stairs to the upper floors were not very wide, I only had a backpack if anyone had a suitcase it would be awkward. The staff should have informed me. The food in the restaurant was very good.

At this hotel a lot depends on what room you get. Unfortunately I was in one of the small airless attic rooms with a skylight that did not open. The bathroom was tiny (too small to dry yourself in) and there was a lot of noise from the corridor and adjoining rooms. That said, the staff were really good as was the food in the restaurant (which was lucky as there is nothing else nearby). I was also ripped off price wise as it happened to be a festival week.

The location is within walk distance from city centre and very safe to walk back even during midnight. The room was well furnitured, clean, neat and fairly quiet. The breakfast was very nice and the kitchen was bright and had enough space. However, it seems that they did not change the beddings and could find hairs...

We required a low cost, comfortable, centrally located hotel for one night in Edinburgh. Royal Ettrick fitted the bill perfectly. The front desk assistant went out of his way to assist us with driving directions for our next days travels. Suitably impressed.

Staff were very helpfull and friendly, a pleasant stay

The hotel is a pleasant building in a quiet suburb of Edinburgh. Unfortunately my overall impression after three nights was not entirely favourable. The room, in a new extension, was functional, with now windows. The shower was a mere trickle of water and the heated towel rail did not work. Breakfast was pleasant enough but my stay was ruined by the fight occurring in the adjacent room at 1am and required intervention by the hotel staff.

The photos dont do this hotel justice. Our room was lovely, bed was a little hard. Breakfast was excellent. Overall very good and close to town.

The first room we were assigned was dismal, the windows didn't lock nor the door and the carpeting and bed were old and ratty. We asked to be moved and were "upgraded" to a better room on a higher floor. This had been updated a bit, but hallways and other areas were not well kept. And worse, I got a severe case of food poisoning from the complimentary 'breakfast". Hotel is in a convenient location as it's near the train station, but it's surrounded by boarded up buildings and the view from our window was to a random trash dump. All in all, would not recommend this hotel in any way, it's a disgrace for the price.

Wir hatten zwei Doppelbettzimmer gebucht und waren zwei Nächte vor Ort. Das Hotel ist mit zwei Sternen angegeben, ist aber unserer Meinung nach mindestens einen mehr wert. Es ist ein kleines, sehr gemütliches und sauberes Hotel. Es hat einen sehr netten Gastraum in der Art eines Wintergartens. Der Service war einwandfrei. Die Zimmer waren keine Luxussuiten, aber mit allem ausgestattet was man für Übernachtungen halt braucht. Alles notwendige war vorhanden, sogar ein Wasserkocher für Tee und Kaffee und ein paar Keksen.Das Bad war mit Dusche und sauber, allerdings hatte unsere Dusche in den Silikonfugen ein wenig Schimmel. Wir hatten Frühstück mitgebucht und waren sehr zufrieden. Alles wurde frisch zubereitet und schmeckte sogar. Überhaupt hat uns die Küche in dem Hotel sehr überzeugt. Auch die Bar war typisch schottisch und am Abend von den Einheimischen gut besucht .Also wir können das Hotel nur empfehlen und werden es bei unserem nächsten AO in Edinburgh wieder buchen.

Et hotel man kan anbefale både til fritid og forretnings reise. Hyggelig betjening, kort busstur til sentrum. En halvtimes gangtur til the Castle. God frokost, og gode middager. Hyggelig bar med endel av lokalbefolkningen som gjester. (Meget hyggelige samtaler.)

Hotel in rustige buurt, dus een rustige nacht. keurig hotel, leuke bar. Goede badkamer maar wel twee ochtenden geen warm water. Onbijt goed te doen mits je wel van wat stevigs houdt 's ochtends (kan ook continentaal). In de bar beneden Sky sports maar in de kamer alleen bbc 1,2, channel 4 en 5 en niet in de beste kwaliteit. Al met al een goede indruk. Onbijt, stad in, 's avonds een pint in de bar en dan een goede nachtrust: wat wil je nog meer.

Hotel selbst ist ok. City per Bus gut erreichbar. Direkt um das Hotel ist allerdings nichts vorhanden, wie Restaurants, Shops etc.
