Stayed at the Apex City for 3 nights, this was our second visit to Edinburgh but the first to this hotel. The Apex City is situated in the Grassmarket area of the city, with fantastic views of the castle which are stunning especially at night. Just outside the hotel are located some excellent local pubs, most serving food and most with live music each evening. Completely enjoyed our trip would use this area again for another stay.

My Son and I stayed in the Apex City Hotel last weekend. We were both impressed. The beds were so comfy it was like a home from home. After a hard day and night of sightseeing (and ghost seeing) it was perfect. The staff were very helpful with information and were very pleasant. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone going to Edinbrough as the location was excellent also. A very enjoyable stay. I will be back.

Comentado por A, deNear London, el ago 22, 2009
The hotel has a 1970's feel about it and the social space on the ground floor is quite limited. The bar didn't stock non-alcoholic beers and didn't seem that fussed about doing anything about it. £13.50 for a cooked breakfast seems pricy but if you only want a cup of tea and a bowl of cereal they will still charge you £10 which is outrageous. However our room was extremely comfortable and very quiet. There were tea making facilities but it took us a couple of days to find them - would have been nice if this had been mentioned when we checked in. For the Festival, the location is fantastic. Yes I'd go back but I think I'll take my own breakfast!

This hotel was overall beautiful. While our particular view was to a parking lot, the views from the hallway windows, where they have lounges set up, are stunning. The location, in a word, amazing. Easy walk to everything you could imagine in Edinburgh. The size of the room was the best we'd had in our 14 day adventure to Scotland. I'd say, minus the unannounced fire drill our first day and the unannounced water maintenance which entailed shutting off all water for the entirity of one morning, the hotel was chic, clean and very beautiful.

We stayed in the Apex City Edinburgh and were delighted with the choice. We got a suite on the top floor with a fantastic view of the castle. The accommodation was top class with a large king size bed and huge bathroom. The location was excellent as it was close to the castle, great shops, pubs and restaurants, in fact we seemed to be at the heart of everything, the city was just electric. As previously promised from other reviews the rubber duck, pringles and jelly beans were a delight. The staff were fantastic and the service was great.

This is probably the best located hotel for the tourist as it is a very easy walk to all the sites. I had a full view of the Castle from my room which was nice to see as I went to sleep. I almost booked the Apex Waterloo in New Town but am glad I stayed here instead as you are right on Grassmarket, and less than 10 minute walk to Princes Street, 5 minutes to the Castle/High Street, less than 10 minutes to the Meadows. If you are a Rankin fan seemingly all the bodies in his books are a few blocks from here! The only reason I didn't give a full 5 stars are the toiletries weren't properly stocked (inconsistent room from room, I had to ask for a shower cap etc), the towels smelled a bit like disenfectant- they need to use a fabric softener or something, and the wireless was glacial. But service was very good at front desk and at the cafe during breakfast (I was never there for any other meals). I would especially recommend this hotel if its your first time to the city for the great location.

Fresh, modern decor; helpful front-desk staff; decent restaurant: definitely exceeded our expectations during a four-day, three-night visit. The only negative is that most of the Old Town attractions--the Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, etc.--require a steep but short climb, which can be made by stairs or by street. I didn't find this a bother, but older or disabled guests might.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Initally our room was lovely but the "queen sized bed" was actually two singles pushed together. The staff were very helpful in sorting this and ended up upgrading us. The hotel was clean and modern and the rooms very comfortable, and well equipped with lovely views of the castle and close to all attractions. Although it is central there was no problem with noise even on a friday night with the window open. We would definately stay here again and reccomend it.

I went in summer and found that the hotel hasn't had any air conditional. The beds did not match even some three stars hotel that I frequently stay in. The hotel did have a car park but have a charge of £8 per day but once you moved your car out you will have to repay the £8 even in the same day. In short it does not match the expectation of a 4 stars hotel.

I really liked this hotel, the room was lovely, on the top floor with a view of the castle, and the staff were generally friendly and helpfull. There was quite a lot of noise on Saturday night due to it's proximity to some of the pubs, and the lack of air conditioning requiring the windows to be open.

The hotel was very clean and the rooms were very nice. The building is a former dormitory that has been converted into a hotel. You would never know this based on the decor, with one exception - the bathroom floor still looks like a dormitory bathroom tiled floor. The staff was nice and helpful, the location was perfect. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This hotel is very nicely situated. It is in a neighborhood with great restaurants and only 5 minutes away from Castlehill. Our bed was extremely comfortable and the room well furnished and clean. However we couldn't seem to adjust the room temperature which was warm and the hot water in the shower never got beyond warm. The staff was courteous but not overly helpful. For example, they provided maps and offered a wake up call but did not have suggestions for best sights to see. They did tell us the best short cut up to the High Street though which saved us time every day.

Very comfortable little hotel in the Edinburgh Grassmarket area, within 5m walking distance to Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and Grayfriars Church. Hotel serves breakfasts in their restaurant but there are several other taverns, pizza stores and restaurants nearby to try local cuisine. The air-conditioning wasn't working but you can open the window for a nice strong breeze to come in. No in-room mini-bar or in-room safe, but otherwise nice clean room and bed, clean modern bathroom with separate shower and bath. Good size room.

My brother and I stayed here on a recent trip to Edinburgh. The room was a decent size and was very quiet, but he was disappointed that there was no refrigerator. Also, we had a view of the parking lot in the back - not terrible but I would have preferred something with a view of the castle!! Service from the front desk was entirely dependent on who was there - some of them were fantastic, others just average. The location of the hotel is great - we could walk to everything we wanted to and since it was off of the main streets, very quiet.

This hotel has one of the BEST locations in Edinburgh, the neighborhood is wonderful, the view of the castle is amazing and the stairway to the Royal Mile is most convenient. Our room was great for the deal we got from hotels.com. The staff however would be my only complaint. The front desk staff had a tendency to be somewhat unfriendly from the moment we checked in to answering any questions about getting around in the city. All in all for the price we paid I was satisfied for our three night stay.

We spent 10 nights in Edinburgh and were very satisfied with this hotel. The bed was comfortable, there was water and coffee and tea in the room, and the staff were nice. The location of this hotel is it's biggest selling point. The hotel is near the castle, the High Street and many bars and restaurants. The only complaint that we have is that one day, when we decided to eat the continental breakfast, almost all the food was gone. It was annoying but the staff took the charge off the bill as soon as I complained. However, since the hotel is near so many good places to grab food, we never ate at the hotel again during our stay. We did get room service once and that was reasonably priced and was delivered very quickly. Overall, it was a great hotel.

I usually stay at the Caledonia Hilton. The Apex City Hotel was as good as the 2x priced Caledonia Hilton. As well the Apex location is far superior to the Hilton’s. There was no parking at the City Hotel. The guest is required to park down the street at the sister hotel and walk back. At 8.50 pounds per day the parking was reasonable - spaces were limited though.

The Apex city hotel is an ideal base for a weekend in Edinburgh. Located in the Grassmarket it is in the heart of a wide selection of pubs, bars and restaurants, (and we didn't encounter any noise in our room). It is a stones throw from the castle, albeit a very steep one, and a walk of about 5 mins takes you to the tourism heart of the Royal mile and ten minutes to the train station and Princes Street. The hotel was spotlessley clean and very modern. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. Rooms had everything you needed including a nice tea tray and hairdryer. We paid extra to have the breakfast which was not included in our tariff and we were pleased we did, a great selection of cereals, breads, pastries, fruit, yogurts and drinks followed by a hot scottish breakfast cooked to order, well worth the money and set us up for the day. Overall a 10/10 for the Apex city hotel, we'd definately return and we'd take our cossies next time as you can use the spa facilities in the sister hotel two doors down.
