If you need to be in downtown Miami, this is a good spot for the money. After that it's all down hill. Missing smoke detector, no lock on outside door, bizarre room layout- you had to sit sideways on the second hand store couch to watch the only TV. and no coffee pot at all, let alone coffee and filters.

The Fortune House is a wonderfull hotel to book your stay. All the staff I came across were friendly and the room I booked was big and had a wonderfull view. The gym is up to date, the pool was clean. I stayed over the weekend and enjoyed every bit of it. They even said I can do a late check out, as long as I do it before 2:30, which was very good.

stained carpet, outdated linen, tiles and appliances, tub floor was dirty, room was not ready upon arrival had to wait another 15 mins to get another room (needed approval from manager to give another room). Located in financial district (great for business trips, but not the quality). I was told I owed money for the valet parking when we didn't even have a car (settled, incorrectly charged to wrong room). Only pro to this hotel was the beautiful view from our room (obviously the other side is not a view at all, i think it was a view of a garage?) Definitely need a car, we did not rent one, though it is a 2 minute walk to the local metro (which was also ghetto). The hotel is also located a few blocks from the ghettos (the taxi took us thru the ghettos to get to the hotel).

Great for a couple of nights stay. Long term maybe not because it does not offer a lot for "in hotel restaurant" nor are there too many restaurants close by to choose from. The hotel is not located near any beaches to walk to, most everything needs a Taxi. We stayed because we were going on a cruise the next day, great accomodations for something like that.

The hotel is a good value if you are staying longer than one night. We stayed only one night before we sailed on a cruise. Because it is a condo/hotel- bedroon, living room, bath, and kitchen, it is better suited for a longer stay. We were a bit disappointed in the small cafe, but there were other good restaurants close by.

This is one of those condos that didn't sell--and now it's a hotel, of sorts. We had a two bedroom/two bath apartment, kind of pokey, with cheap furnishings (bed's a killer, IMHO) but a lovely view of the water and the super-luxurious hotel next door. There is no maid service. But they did bring us towels, unasked, so that was nice of them. Valet parking is a bother; add a tip to the valet everytime you want to take your car out, plus the $20 per night fee, but the hotel is still a bargain. Our deal came with breakfast for two (the third person had to pay). Not a great breakfast, but sufficient. The location was superb for our needs--we had things to do downtown, on Miami Beach, 8th Street, in Coral Gables and South Miami--so it all worked out well for us. I would recommend this hotel/condo, but with caveats mentioned above. We missed not being in a proper hotel with all the regular hotel amenities.

We stayed here for 2 nights before leaving for a cruise. The location was great, close to the port and within walking distance to a gracoery store and public transportation. The units are spacious and comfortable. However, 3 other families in our party stayed here also. The other families rooms were much nicer and cleaner than ours. Our unit was the only one of the 4 that had carpeting (the others' had tile). The carpeting was so dirty that our feet turned black from walking on it. The bathrooms had hair in the tub. We were supposed to have 2 twin beds in teh second bedroom, but had a double instead.

The Hotel itself was beautiful. The lobby also has a nice touch. The Front Desk associate wasn't friendly nor welcoming to the hotel. They appeared under staffed for valet parking. The Hotel also charges you to have your car parked in their garage per night, you would think since your staying their it would be included. Was close to the area I attended for my trip. The room was under expectation considering i paid for the bay view and wasn't much of a bay view. Overall I wasn't too please with my stay and would not recommended. I know I wont be stay there next year for the same trip.

Our room was entirely adequate. I think of it as being able to stay in your Great Aunt's Florida winter condo, instead of having to pay top dollar for at a nearby hotel. Since this is a condo set-up, and not a typical hotel, we were not surprised to find that the square footage was greater than usual, but the creature comforts were a bit less. The fixtures were old, there was only one TV for the 2 rooms and the furniture didn't match. But, the price was also nice. So, on balance, not bad at all.

We stayed in one of the remodeled Bay View 2 BR suites and it was very nice. However, we were first put in a non-remodeled room. The difference is huge. Once we got our room changed, everything else was great. The location was very good. We used the free downtown train (metromover) a ton, and the station is one block away. The front desk was very helpful. We used the pool and the gym, both were nice. We even ordered room service. This place is not a hotel, but for the price the value was outstanding.

The Fortune House was in a good location, but needed a lot of work and a great deal of remodeling. The beds were awful and there was no water pressure in the shower at all. The Fortune House is a nice hotel. The service is okay. When I checked in the vale told me that there was not any self-parking on the premises, which is a lie. The hot tub was out of order, when I went to the front desk to inquire about it all I was told is that "Yeah that hasn't worked for a few days, I think somebody put in a call about it." The room was a nice room however our toilet became clogged and overflowed. They said that they couldn't get anyone in until 8:o0 am and couldn't get us another room to stay in so we had to use the lobby bathroom. Then when the morning came we couldnt get anyone to fix the toilet until 10:00am. They kept saying someone was on the way but it took 2 hours from the time maintenance came in. In addition, we almost got stuck on the elevator. If they can get the staff together it would be a very nice place to stay.

I stayed at the Fortune House for one evening while on a business trip. The hotel offers an excellent location off Brickell Ave, a lovely exterior, and was a great value overall. My room was spacious and clean but the interior was rather dated. There was a small patio that looked down on the pool and a parking garage, and you could just see the ocean off to the south between two buildings. The staff at the Fortune House was friendly, although they were extremely slow at check in/check out. I did not have the occasion to order room service or call the front desk for anything. Overall the Fortune House offers a convenient location for businesspeople and very competitive pricing, although the rooms are dated. I would likely stay there again due to the low price.

Be prepared because you might get surprised with $60, $80 or more in mandatory parking fees depending on how long you stay. In my opinion, the management and customer service personel are very cold, uncaring and rude. The bathroom had something dark that I thought was mold or fungus in the corners of the shower area. I felt dirty and unfomfortable showering there. The bed was loud and creeked terribly each time I changed my sleeping position. The front desk lady could not have been colder or more rude in my opinion. Many places advertise that check in time is 3:00pm or even later but even those places let you slide and you can often check in around 1:00 or 2:00pm, not this place. I was definately not allowed to check in early.

What a mistake it was booking this hotel! I have never met so many rude and unfriendly people in a hotel before. I thought there supposed to be some type of hospitality or friendliness. Well, don't expect to get it here. The rooms were not that all clean. Rust stains, hair on the floor, dirty tubs, and leaky faucets. Even the refrigerator was leaking and it smelled funky. Parking was a pain. They only have valet, which is fine if the one lane driveway wasn't backed up all the time. On top of that, they charge an additional $20 for parking for each day. Wish they would've told me that in the beginning. Hospitality at the front desk...well...there was NONE! They don't greet you or smile at you. They make eye contact and then look away. At times, there's no one at the front desk. People just seem to disappear and you just have to wait and hope a person will pop out from behind the desk in time. Worst of all was their restaurant. They were all grumpy because we had a free breakfast voucher with our booking. The restaurant manager was all grouchy and kept on staring at us when we went to get our breakfast. Hey, it was paid for through the booking of the hotel. There was no self-service for the coffee so they had to bring it to you. Well, it took them 20 mins. to get me a cup of coffee. I really dislike this hotel, management, hospitality and service, which there was none. For my first trip to Miami, I really did not enjoy my stay one bit. Take my advice, if you want service, friendliness and an enjoyable place to stay...DON'T stay at the Fortune House!

While the hotel location and interior space is good, the interior condition, particularly the bathrooms need an overhaul. The Fortune House hotel offers good value, but if you're picky about hotel rooms, then you may not be happy. Everything was fine, but just a little bit off from what you woud expect. For example, the keys to the hotel room were actual keys, not key cards. The room number is printed on every key and on the key fob, which seems to be a bit of a security issue. Even if you have several people staying in your suite, you are only provided with one key fob (the fob is needed to get into the hotel and to call the elevator in the lobby). Also, there is a daily charge for parking, which is valet-only. Other oddities in my suite were a complete lack of tissues (which was never rectified, but it was easy enough to buy a box of tissues from CVS). One day, I came back to discover the shower rod had fallen off the wall and the shower curtain and rod were sitting in the bathtub. The good things were that the suite was clean and reasonably comfortable. For my purposes (visiting a friend who lived nearby), the location was very convenient. The breakfast buffet was quite good, though we only had breakfast for two people included with our two-bedroom suite. All in all, if you want a good value and can put up with a few quirks, Fortune House Hotel is a good place to stay.

We were very satisfied with our 2 night stay here. We were considering changing this reservation because of some recent comments by others, but we were very glad that we did not. We rented a 2 bedroom. One had a king bed, the other a double. The condos were clean, beds were good, and our unit had everything that we could have wanted. There were 2 full baths. Everything else is just what you would want in a rental condo. There is an average sized pool, nothing fancy. Also a small work out area, (indoors), near the pool with lots of equipment. Added bonus was the small washer/dryer, just bring your own soap. We would stay again.

To all that may be considering this hotel, This was reviewed and given a three star rating, and I believe they are way off. Let's start at the beginning. To get into the room, you need to have the super strength in order to turn the key to unlock the door. Not once, twice, or three times did it take to get into the room. After asking someone to help, the person stated that he too was having a problem opening his door, down the hallway from ours. He even said that there was a trick to get in. Ok, finally through the door, we are met with a nice efficiency looking suite. The carpeting was stained, the couch was like sitting on a cinder block. The sliding glass door did not open and needed to be jimmied open. Once the door was open, there was no view to the water. In fact, after requesting the water view, the only view that we received was the pool next door, 21 floors below us. Ok, now for the bedroom. The oversized bed, was nice and comfortable, however, I needed a step stool to get up there. I am not a small person, over 6'2", and I had a problem getting into bed. Ok, not that bad. We needed to do laundry, and the washing machine and dryer were not even plugged in. And when we tried to plug it in, the plug was behind the machines in a closet that did not even fit the two machines. The bathroom was the final straw. There were no amenities, like the complimentary shampoo or soap. The towels were there, thank goodness, but there were other problems. The counter where the sink was coming off the walls. The molding was gone. It looked like they had just painted ten minutes before we entered the room. The bathtub had mold stains on the molding around the tub and some around the bathtub drain. For the money that was spent, for the area that we were in, I would have taken the money, and spent an extra $60 and moved up the street. Or, I would have taken the money and just gone home for the night. I am posting this because the reviews are wrong. The rating for this hot
