Fabulous hotel and highly recommended. You get so much more space and comfort for the money than many other luxury hotels. If you want a lobby experience, look elsewhere. But why spend time in a lobby when you can have a delightful living room and kitchen at your disposal. Bed and bathroom were great. As others have mentioned, there are a few "shady" nightclubs nearby and there is a large construction project going on across the street, but the location was very close to high street and Edi castle. Helpful friendly staff. Highly recommended.

We only stayed here one night but it was a great experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they answered a lot of questions. The rooms were very clean. Although they say the room does not include breakfast, they supply you with cereal, milk, coffee, tea, bread, jam, butter... The location is not bad either although there are some strip bars around, but I felt safe there and close walking distance to everything!

The Knights Residence is much nicer than an ordinary hotel. My wife and I only had a few days in Edinburgh, but I would definitely stay at the Knights Residence again. It was very comfortable and a great location. It was great having a bedroom, a living room with a small dinning area, and a kitchen. It allows you to spread out and relax. The manager pointed out a local grocery store where we picked up a few items to eat in our apartment. The location was very nice since it was only a short walk to the Edinburgh castle. My minor complaint was the washer/dryer unit. Since the washer/dryer unit is one machine, you can't wash one load while drying another. This definitely limits the amount of laundry you can do in an evening. The machine was also a bit confusing to use. We had to ask for instruction on how to run the dryer. We did discover the instruction pack under the kitchen sink and those manuals helped clear up a few things about the washer/dryer controls (such as the built-in door lock that can take up to two minutes before releasing so you can't just walk up to the machine and open it when you want to). The kitchen has a lot of room, so I would prefer to see a stacked washer with a separate dryer on top to replace the single washer/dryer unit. I would also add some suitcase stands to each apartment. Getting the suitcases off the floor would be helpful.

The Knight Residence was a very good value. the staff was attentive, the apartment was clean and well stocked, and the beds were comfortable. The only negatives I would have are location: several "gentleman's clubs" in the immediate vicinity could be a problem with small children. The neighbohood tended to be noud at night. The location, while very close to Grass market and the Castle, could be a problem, again, if a family with small children were staying. That being said we loved the experience. Close to Pubs, breakfast places, and bus tour stops (at the base of the Castle). I would recommend and consider again once you get the lay of the land.

The apartments and our welcome there was excellent and was like home from home :-) The only negative for us was the location, the apartments are neighbours to 3 strip clubs on each corner (not that this was really a problem), however it is a good location for the grassmarket and Princes Street so just depends on what suits you ;-)

THe best thing I can say is that I will most definitely stay at the Knight Residence again. It offers a lot for the money. The rooms/apartments are spacious and well appointed. The beds are comfortable. The rooms are scrupulously clean and well cared for. There is free off-street parking for guests with cars. Breakfast fixings are included in the room rate and are found in the full kitchen. The folks staffing the concierge desk are wonderful, informative and helpful. You will feel very welcome. On the down side, there are massive roadworks in Edinburgh at the moment as the city labors to install a trolley network. It can be miserable to find the Knight Residence through a maze of one-way and torn-up streets. Once you arrive, you'll be glad you booked there.

We went to Edinburgh for a long weekend and had a great time and these apartments were great , large rooms, clean and well finished. Marked down service only because the guy on reception told us the room was ready when I called from the station only to have to wait 30 mins when I we arrived - would have been happy to kill some time in the city instead of hanging around in reception. Reasonably central with only 5 minute walk to the haymarket area although you cannot ignore the 2 lapdancing bars on the doorstep and they did distract from our experience

Having a kitchen was a major bonus, so we could enjoy breakfast and sometimes Dinner without leaving the comfort of the hotel. The main attractions, restaurants and pubs are less than 5 mins away, which meant no expensive taxis - a relief !!! We look forward to a return trip very soon

The Knight Residence has been the BEST hotel experience we have had in travelling around Europe. The customer service was absolutely unsurpassed - our apartment was supplied with breakfast for the first morning, detergent for the dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer, a fully equipped kitchen, an infant care pack, and an activity pack and teddy bears for our children. A staff member took us personally into the apartment, gave us a detailed map of Edinburgh, and showed us good walking routes to all the major destinations as well as to local grocery stores and pharmacies. The location was excellent - with easy walking to the Grassmarket, Castle, Royal Mile, Princes Street, etc. The apartment was extremely spacious - with closets in every room, a coat closet, a linen closet, a large living room and separate kitchen. Furnishings were tasteful and functional. We felt very safe, with secure (and free!) parking for our vehicle. DVD and book libraries are available, as well as a friendly concierge service. We will recommend The Knight Residence to everyone we know that plans to stay in Edinburgh!

I found this hotel on-line and based on comments others had made decided to take a chance. The hotel far exceeded my expections. It was perfect. We had two bedrooms and a livingroom/dining room along with a kitchen that came stocked with cereal, milk, juice, butter, bread, etc. It made it easy for us to get out quickly in morning as opposed to having to stop for breakfast. The location was pretty close to everything that we planned to do for the day. The staff was extremely helpful, letting us check in early and holding our bags for us after check out so that we could still spend time in Edinburgh before our train was to leave. I highly recommend it.

This hotel alternative as they describe it was a great place to stay. Recently opened as appartments, they took special care and detail in making my stay perfect for the holidays...right down to my name on the door, groceries in the kitchen, and a Christmas tree with gifts! Great location to Grassmarket and Royal Mile...Princes street for shopping is a short 10 minute walk! Only down side is just outside a college area (not affected by students) but has three strip clubs a block away to the left. Can avoid though by walking right out the hotel.

Very nicely equipped apartments with A+ service and a very good location, close to the Edinburgh castle and Royal Mile. The hotel was the best of both worlds in that it had the service and staffing that you would expect at a small hotel with the comfort, space and independence of an apartment. There were a lot of nice little touches including names on buzzers outside hotel so that take-aways can be delivered to your apartment door (takeaway menus included)! Dishwasher, Washing Machine, DVD player, 2 flat screen tvs, CD player and music / videos to borrow.....Cereals, bread, butter, milk, fruit juice is also included even though it is meant to be "room only".

A wonderful surprise awaited when I arrived to find a lovely apartment waiting for me. Based in the "Old Town" part of the city it is a fantastic location for nearby restaurants of the highest standards if you want to eat out rather than use the fully fitted kitchen. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Couldn't fault it - except that as a smoker there are no smoking rooms although provision is made in the rear car park. A little jewel in Edinburgh's crown at a good price.

From the first step of booking the hotel, I was in contact with the Concierge desk who could not be more helpful. They organised a babysitter for one of the nights, who made us feel very comfortable leaving our daughter with her. Thay also organised a cot for the room and a pushchair for our personal use in the duration of our stay (At no Extra cost). On arrival at the hotel which is not in the most of selubrious areas! (however do not let this put you off) We were taken to our appartment which was the two bedroom,It was fantastically equiped with all mod cons, very clean and very comfortable a home away from home! The hotel is well situated and all areas of Edingburgh are easily accessable (in walking distance) anf the staff are absolutely fantastic, we will look to return in the summer.

Had a lovely weekend in Edinburgh - staying in an apartment gave us the freedom to feel at home, having breakfast when we wanted and the use of separate living space. The concierge was very welcoming and informative, the beds were very comfy, apartment was clean & well heated and the provisions for breakfast lasted the whole weekend. Well located close to castle and 5 mins walk from grassmarket which has a good range of pubs and restaurants. Although it is situated close to two bars we didn't hear any noise throughout the night and felt v. safe. My only criticism would be that the decor is becoming a bit old and dated.

I was a little nervous when I first found the hotel as it was in a quiet area located near three 'strip' clubs. However the hotel is a five star hotel and was extremely pleasant, with no problems from people frequenting the 'clubs'. In fact, after we checked in I never thought abou the 'clubs' again. The hotel is located in a quiet area so there is not a lot of street noise. Also it is located very near to the Grassmarket (5 min walk) were you can pick up tour buses or find your way easily into the city center. The hotel is more like luxory apartments than a hotel, as the staff leaves at 11pm and returns at 7am the following morning. You have a key to get into the secure building and into your room. The rooms were very clean and they provided various foods for breakfast in our own full kitchen. We also had a washer/dryer in the kitchen. The tv had hundreds of channels and the front desk even had some of the newest movie releases to 'rent' (free of charge) as long as we stayed. The staff was very friendly and helpful with directions and advice. It was truly a wonderful place to stay and we will be staying there again when we return to Edinburgh! It was a like a home away from home!

Across the street (forty feet away) a large building is being rebuilt. Construction noise began at 7am with jackhammering at 7:30 am. That is my ONLY complaint. Not the Hotel's fault but for the price you pay you should not have to put up with that. So I'd wait until the building next door is completed in a year or so before I'd stay at this hotel, or request a greatly reduced price due to the situation.
