Matyas Hotel - Budapest

Excellent location and friendly staff, that's about it for the positives. The room was quite small and cramped, no AC so was uncomfortably hot all day. Extremely noisy due to all the banging doors made it hard to sleep. The breakfast was poor, not much choice if you didn't eat meat, also no toast!

Don't let you first view of the seedy entry prevent you from staying here. The staff is helpful and courteous, the room is certainly adequate, and the breakfast buffet is fine. Another possible turn-off is the dinky elevator (for two only). Best thing about the hotel is it's location. Three stars is pushing it a bit, but all in all, not bad.

This hotel was recommended by a friend who loves the shopping convenience. I agree that the location is great, but we arrived and found maybe 20 stairs to the lobby, then more stairs to get to the room. They don't provide assistance, yet have a 2 person elevator. You must then go through a couple more doors and down a hallway to the rooms. At night, the lighting is terrible and the entry was poorly or not lighted (automatic lighting sometimes works). There is mildew in the bathroom and much of the hotel is dingy and dirty. Breakfast was provided and fairly good.

The entrance to the hotel had us somewhat skeptical...but we ended up really appreciating our location and the helpful desk clerks. Our room was clean and comfortable and the location couldn't be better. The breakfast in the morning was fabulous!

I LOVE the location of this hotel in Budapest. Although the hotel itself is not in the best of shape, they are working on refreshing the rooms and they are basically just fine. Breakfast is included and is just next to the hotel in one of the finest restaurants in town. Frescos and great old world ambiance and yummy breakfast foods of all kinds are generously served. The location is right next to Vaci utca which is the main shopping district; great restaurants are truly within a couple of blocks one direction or the other. The metro is a long block away. Trolleys and buses stop across the street to take you to the castle district or link to anywhere else. The staff is always friendly and helpful and speak many languages fluently. I always stay here. You enter this hotel up some rather poorly lit steps and so first impressions are not good. However once inside, we found this was an old building that has been refurbished and the rooms were modern and well furnished. The restaurant is in the basement where what we assume were the original timber panelling and decorated ceilings remain. Our meal on a Saturday evening was taken to the sounds of a string quartet (or maybe there was 5 of them). The menu had a Hungarian bias and the food was OK. The staff at reception were very helpful in advising where to go and assisted in booking trips.

We stayed at the Matyas for 4 nights in February and it was an excellent choice. The hotel is central and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and many sights. We were lucky enough to have rooms that overlooked the Danube and the castle area beyond. The staff were courteous and helpful and the rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast in the beautifully decorated restaurant offered a wide choice and there was plenty of it. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and if I return to Budapest I should go back to the Matyas.

generally good value, superb location... elevator too small, hallways very dimly lit with unreliable " cat eye" sensors that could leave guests very vulnerable in dark hallways and elevators stair-well etc. During the day it was OK.. at night... Yikes

Sentralt, "midt" i gågata. Nært buss og trikk. En del trafikkstøy.Like ved Donau, på Pest-siden. God frokostbuffet. Ikke noe luksushotell, men bra overnattingsplass i Budapest, faktisk bedre enn en del andre 3-stjernes hoteller i Europa.

Confermo cio' che ho trovato in altre recensioni: ottimo hotel per visitare la citta'; posizione strategica, sia per girare a piedi che per prendere i mezzi pubblici di Busapest: metro, tram e bus. Poco silenzioso, in quanto vicino ad una strada a scorrimento veloce; poco riposante in quanto le camere non hanno scuri o persiane, ma solo dei tendoni. Colazione ottima e abbondante.

Encore un peu en deça des normes européennes"habituelles". Bon rapport qualité - prix. Parking souterrain à proximité très cher. Mais impossible de se garer autrement dans la ville.

En meget sentral beliggenhet og lav pris er det eneste gode som kan sies. Rommet var det dårligste min kone og jeg har bodd på. Ingen komfort utover det å sove i. Et klart feilvalg fra vår side.

bra hotell for pengene.Veldig sentralt midt i gågata vaci. Kan være noe støy pga. hovedgaten som går forbi. litt dårlig service i resepsjonen. Frokosten var bra, men vær tidlig ute. vi kom halv ti en dag og da var det veldig tomt og de fylte ikke på med egg og slikt

Κεντρικο ξενοδοχειο, πολυ κοντα σε ολα τα αξιοθεατα και οικονομικο. Το κτιριο ηταν παλιο, ο διαδρομος ηθελε ανακαινιση γιατι μολις φτασαμε και τον ειδαμε σκοτεινο και χωρις να βλεπεις που ειναι η ρεσεψιον σχηματισαμε αρνητικη εικονα. Οι ακαλυπτοι ηθελαν καθαρισμα και το ασανσερ να ανακαινιστει.Δεν υπηρχε Mini bar παρολο που το δωματιο ειχε ψυγειο.

Läget är suveränt, men det är allt. Men insågatt man inte behöver bo så centralt. Man kommer snabbt dit man vill med Metro och spårvagn.

Det overrasker at bygningen inneholder et hotell... Helt greit hotell med en grei standard. Sentralt beliggende mellom gågata og elven. Restauranten hvor man får servert frokost har flotte lokaler og god servering. Litt treige og ineffektive personale som ikke rydder unna etterhvert som gjestene kommer og går... De virker mest opptatt av å spise mat selv på bakrommet.

Hotellet er litt slitt, men beliggenheten er super! Man kan gå over hele byen!

Fick ett icke-rökar-rum som luktade cigarr. Det fanns ingen hårfön :-( Personalen var dock mycket tillmötesgående, trevliga och hjälpsamma vilket höjde standarden. Hotellet ligger extremt bra till nära Elisabeth-bron och Vaci utca. Bor man här behöver man nästan inte åka tunnelbana!

Första natten fick vi ett rum som var ett enkelrum med två sängar... var dock aldrig några problem att byta! Konstig entré till hotellet, men det var ändå rätt okej! Bra läge!

Helt greit hotell, både med hensyn til service, rom, fellesarealer og frokost. Vi hadde rom inn mot bakgård, dvs dårlig med utsikt. Hotellet ligger sentralt i forhold til t-banen fra flyplassen. Forholdsvis nær hovedvei, men forholdsvis lite støy.

Hotellet ligger i gangavstand til Gellert, slottshøyden og midt i shopping og restaurantstrøket. Suveren beliggenhet.
