William the doorman greeted us before we stepped out of the taxi, he was especially helpful. We sat to check in, a first for us. The rooftop terrace make one forget that you are downtown, it is quiet and peaceful and has wonderful views. The room was modern and cozy, the smoked glass in the bathroom was especially nice. We enjoyed the honesty bar, the lounge with the unique fireplace, and the artwork displayed throughout the hallways. Definitely would go back and recommend it to others.

We stay at this hotel for four night. We took the advise from the review and requested the roof top room. The room was exceptional. The access to the roof top garden was superb. Service from the hotel was great. Exceed my expectation. William the doorman was very knowledable and yet approachable. His recmendation made our stay and visit very worthwhile. Tips: Visit Carlton Hill behind the hotel in the morning. It was a very refreshing walk and the scenery is just stunning. Round trip takes about an hour with moderate pace. Visit The Elephant Cup where J.K. Rowling wrote most of the Harry Potters. The pastry and coffee were only ok Whiski Bar on Royal Miles is a good bar to visit. Go on the night with live music. The band is fun to watch and listen to. Their Haggie Tower is a must try. Le Petite Follies is a French restaurant. Relatively inexpensive and yet can satisfy travellers like us that travel frequently to different parts of Frence and Italy.

My partner and I stayed in the glasshouse for one night during the Edinburgh festival and would go back in an instant. The service was second to none and the room was beautiful (especially the shower). We asked if we could possibly check out slightly later than the standard 11am and this was no problem at all. The bed was so comfortable and knowing we had such a lovely room to go back to made the crowds of the festival much more bearable!

Excellent Hotel--it was quite refreshing to find a modern hotel within steps of most of the major sites in Edinburgh. I understand that Glasshouse is only 6 years old. The staff were outstanding and would stand up when any guest entered the lobby, and they got my father tickets to a sold out concert at the castle. The rooms were spacious, modern, and somewhat unique. Only drawback, the parking was in a deck a few doors down. Then again, the rate was reasonable for this type of luxury in the most beautiful city in northern Europe.

sobre value="10""Unbelievably Fantastic Hotel - However a bit distant from Best Areas of Edinburgh"
Comentado por David, deCosta Mesa, el jul 3, 2009
What a fantastic hotel. Everything from the kind staff to the amazing rooms to the amenities - WOW! Upgrading to one of the suites is definitely worth it. Ours was enormous and very well appointed with a HUGE balcony. Also, each suite is named after a famous Scottish Whisky - and there is a fresh jug of that whisky placed in your room each day along with spring water to bring out all of the wonderful flavors. The bed was king size, all of the linens top notch and the comforter and pillows goose down. The huge bathroom was very modern with every possible amenity and a huge powerful and hot shower. A 5-star hotel all the way. The only downside is that the hotel is around a 15-20 minute walk from the Royal Mile, Grassmarket and the castle. You have to cross the bridge into old town to reach the areas where you want to be. There are also two very loud bars which cater to a flamboyant crowd right next door to the hotel and these can render it quite loud into the very early hours. There was police activity with sirens and shouting of drunk patrons. The hotel has attempted to deal with this with double windows which block out sound - but the air is so fresh in Scotland we wanted to sleep with our doors open. This led to too much noise and interfered with sleep. There is a lovely lounge with an honor bar where you can enjoy a whisky or a pint and then just write down your room number. The prices are amazingly fair compared to London. All in all, a truly wonderful and fantastic hotel at a great price. We would suggest upgrading to a suite but requesting one of the rooms off the street and facing the beautiful rooftop gardens.

I stayed at The Glasshouse in Edinburgh in late June and was delighted with the hotel. The hotel is a converted church, but beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The view from the rooftop observation deck allows you to look out on the North sea on a clear day. It is a short walk to shopping and historical sites. Above all, the staff were tremendous. Staff rose to great us as we entered the lobby and William, the concierge, is exceptionally friendly and outgoing. His thick Scottish accent is a delight for a tourist, and he seems to really know Edinburgh. The reception at breakfast was always friendly. The staff went out of their way to allow me an early check in. I have travelled quite a lot and this is one of the best hotels I have stayed at.

Room was beautiful and bathroom excellent. Bed was like heaven after a long flight. My only complaint was that the room was not far enough away from a bar full of happy rugby watchers and it was a bit of a strange hike to the room both up an elevator and down a flight of glass stairs. The rooftop garden offers some nice views. I expected just a tiny bit more out of a deluxe suite room than I think I received, but still very nice for the jet lagged traveller. I'd stay there again for one of the rooms off the garden terrace.

The Glasshouse was about the last place left to find a room with the Heineken Cup Final in town, so we're very grateful for that considering my wife an I were attending. The hotel is beautiful and perfectly located close to all you'd want to see. The room was immaculate with all the mod cons you could ask for including a fabulous balcony and some free whiskey! The only negatives about the room were that it was too warm (24.5C) and we couldn't seem to reduce the temperature, and there is a very limited number of TV channels, but who'd want to stay in when in Edinburgh? Staff were very helpful and pleasant, although their taxi company let them down, but I don't blame them for that. I would definitely go back to the Glass House and hopefully stay longer next time.

Hotel was extremely clean and service was outstanding. The bed was as good as other reviews stated and location was in walking distance of most areas of interest. It was also next to two large shopping centers. While there was no in-hotel restaraunt there was one next door. The bathroom had heated tile floors and a towel warming rack. The price we paid was initially outstanding. We decided to stay an additional day and the standard room rate was almost double.

A spotless and modern hotel handy for the city centre and with good service. There is a lot packed into the room which can give a claustrophobic impression but everything oozes quality. Slightly unusual features are no restaurant (but 24 hr room service) no bar (but a well equipped lounge with help yourself drinks and an honesty tab). Hard to fault but light sleepers at the front may hear the night club down below throwing out at 3 00 am but most people will not hear it and this is Edinburgh so it can be entertaining to watch.Overall recommended. The theater is next door.

William, the cheerful lobby attendant/doorman/concierge was the first sign our stay over the New Year's Hogmanay celebrations would be delightful. The room was spacious, well-considered, and had a huge terrace that would have been great in warm weather (but a waste for our stay in Dec/Jan). The location is on the edge of the old city part of Edinburgh, convenient to the Royal Mile and Princes Street, and it has a secret back-alley shortcut directly to the main train station, Waverly. It also has a rather short back way down to the Royal residence of Hollyrood (by way of Calton Hill, home of the Nelson Monument) which is the other axis point of the Royal Mile High Street opposite Edinburgh Castle. While there's no proper restaurant, the "Snug"--a lounge area with lots of comfy couches and a gas fire-pit surrounded by sofas is a great place to relax with a drink from the Honesty Bar, which is an honors-system open drink cabinet from which guests serve themselves and then mark their own drinks, much like the minibar in the room, which was very well stocked. The beds in the rooms were generous in size with crisp linens. The bathroom provided a bath and a separate shower for parallel-processing of bathing. All the mod cons were provided, including an ample flat screen, but you won't watch much rubbish UK telly because there's enough to do outside the room.

Despite arriving at the appointed check-in time, we were disappointed to be told that our room was not yet ready and that we would have to wait. The very rude check-in clerk repeatedly insisted that we wait in the corner of the lobby for an unspecified time, which stretched from 20 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. This hardly felt like the warm welcome that we had expected from a small hotel. To their credit we were eventually provided with a complimentary glass of champagne, though this was handed over rather reluctantly on their part. We were eventually taken to our room, which was very nice, but the heating system was not working, and the room was icy cold. It turned out that the heating was broken across the entire hotel and, despite reassurances from the hotel manager, it was not fixed for the duration of our stay. We had to request a fan heater and this was grudgingly given. The hotel was actually very nice, centrally located, with excellent views from the large windows and balcony, but we will not be staying there again.

First of all I thought it was difficult to find - there's no big name to realize where it is and it is next to a big glass mall. Very cool is what this place is, next to the Playhouse at the top of Leith Walk, 5 mins walk to Princess Street, 10/15 mins to the Royal Mile/Castle. Was here on a business trip, there are far more rooms than it might appear from the outside, seems like the hotel extends behind the cinema complex next door. Has a huge roof garden with rooms around the edge. Rooms themselves are very nice indeed. Huge his and hers bathroom, very stylish. Recommend this hotel for everyone - probably also very good for a romantic weeekend.

I spent three nights at the Glasshouse Hotel in Ediburgh and was extremely pleased with all aspects of the hotel and service. I stayed in a suite on the third floor which has a common area with open fireplace, comfortable chairs and honor bar. The rooftop garden was a nice place to get fresh air as well as on the balcony in the room. The bed was a dream. The suite has a leather couch with sitting area, the bed is separated from it with an open wood partition and the LCD tv swivels to either area to watch. The stereo in the room was preloaded with lots of music. When they would turn down the bed at night, they would put on the music, bring a bottle of premium water and put it on the bedside table. The suite also came with a complementary carafe of whiskey, each suite was named after a whiskey and that would be the one in the room. The service was also exceptional, very professional and friendly. The location was very good too...the Omni Center is next door with lots of bar/restaurants and a movie theatre. You can really walk anywhere in Edinburgh from this location or catch a bus in front of the hotel. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ediburgh. I certainly will stay there again when I visit Edinburgh in the future.

The staff was very helpful with orientating us to their city and arranging tours as we needed. The room? We arranged for a basic room and were quite happy. We asked upon chceck-in for a courtyard view and our room was changed to accomodate us. The decor is tasteful and modern. The bed was very comfortabble.
