Best Western Ambassador Hotel - Cork

The hotel was great. The only negative that is set on a very high area of the city. When walking back from the city center, it's quite a hick up a steep steet. It is best to take a taxi back.

We needed a hotel for one night while travelling and this hotel is lovely. The room was clean and staff very helpful. We ate in the bar and the food was good. The hotel was hosting a wedding so there was no parking and they gave us a handicap spot, very considerate.

I am a hotel snob and must say this was a jewel. Up on the hill, beautiful views and such history. We loved it.

The place in itself is quite good but the facilities are worn and we had several issues with the service and problems in our room that took hours to and several requests to fix.

Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely and comfortable surroundings, with a relaxed atmosphere. We had the most comfortable bed in a front room which also gave us great views. Food delicious and plentiful, both breakfast and evening. We would definitely return.

Staff were very friendly and helpful even when a room change was requested for shower only. Rooms were clean and spacious. Original part of building large and ornate. Hotel easily accessible for restricted mobility although transport may be required for steep hill leading up to hotel. Food is excellent and plentiful, both breakfast and evening meal.

The hotel is up a steep hill about a mile from the centre of Cork. Not particularly easy to find but good parking at it. The atmosphere in the hotel is excellent. There's a lovely bar/lounge area with bar meals and another bar with TV. Breakfast includes a large and high quality buffet and an excellent range of cooked breakfast items. We disn't try the restaurant but the bar meals were good value and good quality. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room had great views over the city and was very comfortable. Overall a lovely hotel and great value. The only downside was the steep walk up from the city centre.

Stayed for 2 nights in july 09. Great staff, warm clean comfortable affordable hotel. Bit confusing trying to find certain rooms, there is a maze of corridors and 2 seperate lifts! BIt of a boisterous crowd staying the first night, but the night staff handled and controlled this very well... Will stay again!!

Quiet hotel, with not a lot happening in and around it. Good service though, good pint of stout and decent food. Friendly staff were more than willing to assist with advice on how to get around, where to go etc. Good choice if your stay is work related, maybe not if you want to enjoy the craic in a lovely city. Hotel is only about 15 minutes from centre of town, so close to things but far enough away to get away from it all in the evenings if you need to take it easy. Decor is a bit old fashioned, but hotel is clean, with good service all round.

Hotel exceeded our expectations. They also provided a porter to take our luggage to the room. Hotel staff was exceptional. They were very friendly and assisted with providing us directions to tourist attractions.

other than being on top of a steep hill, the hotel was one of the best that we had stayed in, all staff were very pleasant and helpful, the service was first class, beds were comfortable, and rooms clean, the breakfast was very good for the price , would certainly stay there again ,highly reccomended

It is somewhat hard to find this hotel, unless you have a good map and know the city layout. So, plan in advance -- especially since the neighborhood does not have many tourist amenities easily accessible. But, the hotel is quite good and a fair value.

I only stayed one night (arrived after midnight and left the next morning on business), and had booked without breakfast, so cannot comment very much. The room was very spacious, clean, quiet... not very warm though (probably the heating had already been turned down centrally for the night) but I went straight to bed anyway, so it didn't matter. Wireless Internet access was very weak in the room (maybe because of the location of the room which was at the very far end of the corridor). I'd stayed at this hotel before and it was fine - I'll probably choose it again (close to the station, good value for money).

As advertised, this is a beautiful hotel with all the amenities, but it was so rediculously hard to find that it practically spoiled the entire stay. It is deceptively embedded in a neighborhood on top of a hill (I rented a car for the week and every local had a different way of describing how to find it). The location is great for a romantic getaway, but not so great for the casual traveller who wants to get in and out of the city frequently during their stay.

Old world hotel, loks well from outside but poor inside. Toilet dirty on arrival, shower not working. Complained twice and nothing done about it. Television old and broken and internet had low signal strenght which dropped occasionally. Avoid hotel if you can

This hotel was great! The restaurant, the pub and the food are fantastic! It is very close to downtown, and there are streets dedicated downtown to pedestrians, much like Dublin. Navigating the hotel is however odd.. It seems to have 3, 2nd floors. I know that doesn't make sense, but if you go there, it will. Also, there are limited places to park, and like much of Ireland, people will find a place to park, even if one doesn't exist. I recommend the entry road, near the street. We where able to get out fine, but I saw some people struggling a lot to leave their stall. The hotel is kind of buried on the hill, and you "must" look out for the signs, or you can easily drive by it, so have your passenger or you pay close attention! Overall though, the hotel, and Cork in general are truly wonderful places to see and stay!

a great hotel to stay in very comfortable the (bed was great) staff A 1 food brill, but the wife had a bad back and the hill up to it was just to much so a taxi back every time for us was a disappointment but we were well warned,you do need to be fit wish for the walk back but other wise we loved it and would go back

Very impressed with the hotel. Booked it last minute and it was cheapest I could find. Wasn't expecting much but it far exceeded my expectations. Friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend

The woman at the front desk was awesome and the service was very attentive. Twice, both at night and in the morning, service staff stopped by to make sure everything was alright and were very quick to respond when we requested an additional towel. The room was HUGE for any price, especially for the comparatively low rate they were charging. Also, the hotel had a lot of character and was very clean. I would definitely stay there again.

We had a lovely view, although not all rooms had such a good view. It was a pretty good location and within walking distance of many places. We took a cab instead of walking because of the hills. Room was okay but not as clean as we would have liked. Overall though I would recommend for the price.

When I go back to Cork, this is where I'll stay! We went away for a long weekend to Cork for our anniversary. I couldn't fault the hotel and I'm very fussy. It is 1.5 miles downhill to the town centre, I knew that when I booked the hotel but it honestly wasn't a problem. Everything about the hotel was more than satisfactory.

A comfortable, old fashioned style of hotel but in a lovely, relaxed way. Friendly staff and nice views from the hill top. Only thing was it is was a bit further away from the city centre than was originally advertised. Top tip - save the heels and hop in a cab (approx 8 -10 Euro taxi trip away) NBlether with the local taxi driver and his Cork accent was worth it!

A good and friendly hotel. Our room was big and clean. Too bad about the view though. Although we had a room on the first floor the only thing we could see was a horrible big black wall.

I enjoyed my stay at the Ambassador. I was given one of their new rooms, which was quite large, including the biggest bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel room. The only downside is it was so complicated to get back to reception that I kept getting lost! It isn't right in the middle of Cork but it's only a short walk (up a pretty steep hill though). I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Impressive looking hotel half way up one of the steep hills -comfortable and friendly.Down the hill and to your left there is a local pub with Irish music,take away and off-licence which you may need as there is no mini-bar in the rooms and bar prices are quite steep.

The only bad thing I would say about this place is that because of the new additions, it can be tricky working your way around it if you have a room in the new part. There seems to be 3 2nd floors. We had to take a lift up one floor, walk down the hall (through one door) and take a lift up two floors to get to my room. Other than that, it was a nice hotel. Clean, safe and great food.

Spent two nights with my wife at the ambassador at the end of february, and thouroughly enjoyed our stay. Bedroom was situated at the front of the hotel and was excellent. Superb breakfast freshly prepared to order with cold buffet style included ie juices, cereals etc. Would certainly stay again when next in cork.

hôtel situé sur les hauteurs de Cork à proximité du centre ville, descente pour l'aller mais attention au retour la côte est rude

situé sur les hauteurs de cork il faut 10mn à pied à partir du centre mais il y a aussi un bus de ville.bon accueil et salle de sport bien équipée.

Wenn man (mit dem Auto) endlich das Ziel erreicht hat, was wegen schlechter Ausschilderung und Verkehrschaos nicht einfach ist. freut man sich über den netten Empfang und das das große und zweckmäßig eingerichtete Zimmer. Das Hotel insgesamt hat wohl schon einige anstrengende Jahre hinter sich, was sich nicht verbergen lässt - aber das mit einem gewissen Charme.....Die City lässt sich tatsächlich in angenehmen 15 Minuten Fußweg erreichen, was allemal schneller sein dürfte als mit dem Auto.
