Stayed at the Onyx while in town to take a course. The course was happening at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge but I wanted to stay in Boston to avail of free time tourist opportunities. This hotel is perfect from a location perspective. A short walk from North Station, it is easy to go anywhere by public transport. I used the T to get to Cambridge and also for a couple of trips to Fenway Park. The hotel is also within a 5 minute walk of the wonderful Italian restaurant district in the north end. For Celtics and Bruins fans, the Boston Garden is right beside the hotel. My room was very comfortable if a little dark. There is 24 hour room service and a plush bar in the lobby, There is also a gym and a computer station in the basement where you can access the net and printing, 24/7. Staff were friendly and service was good. There's a very decent sports bar next door if you prefer beer to cocktails - the draft selection in the hotel bar is limited - and within a couple of blocks there is also a Boston Brewery outlet which has a wide selection of its own microbrews. This is a very good place to stay while in Boston.

Very contemporary lobby and rooms. No shuttle service, but only about $15 taxi ride to the airport. The location was great for me. A short walk to Quincy Hall, train station, TD Garden, Science Museum... Walked around North End from hotel...Good Italian dining. I would definitely stay at Onyx again!

We were very pleased with the service and location of this hotel. We easily located the hotel from the airport using the "T." We enjoyed the complimentary wine bar soon after our arrival. The hotel's neighborhood, although a little run down, had many interesting establishments. We most loved the 1/2 mile walk to Hanover Street with its fabulous Italian food. Overall, we found this hotel a good value.

Nice, modern, immaculate room but a bit small with a small window and not much view with our special rate. Hotel only has double beds so it was a cozy room for a family of four. Had a huge flat screen tv, very nice furnishings, comfortable beds, and a good sized bathroom. Wine is served in the small lobby area each evening. There was an error with our room assignment so they sent up a complementary half-bottle of wine. Conveniently located, we easily walked to Fanueil Hall, Legal Seafood, and many points along the Freedom Trail. Great bakery for breakfast across the street.

Comentado por Terry, deSilver Spring, el jun 15, 2009
This is a hotel that isn't quite sure what it is: upscale, retro, modern, or tacky. It provides a (well-worn) leopard-patterned robe for guests, plus leopard-patterned underwear in the closet carries an exorbitant charge ($40 per piece), should anyone with an "inner hooker" want to buy it. Decor is weird: black and beige carpet tiles, like a '50s kitchen, but nice bedding. It welcomes pets--even offers steak for pets on the overpriced room service menu. The neighborhood is borderline: walking distance to good parts of Boston, but on the edge. In the course of a two-block walk in the early evening (7:30), I had 3 homeless people ask me for money, and I felt uncomfortable walking there because of a lot of marginal characters looking me over. Breakfast is very much not worth the money--tiny buffet, so-so quality. If you stay there, go elsewhere for breakfast--maybe the Au Bon Pain across the street. There is a nice free happy hour with wine and sangria, and the people are very nice. For the price, not worth it.

I was in boston for 3 nights at a conference and I have to stay we were 10min away from the convention center and it was much cheaper than other hotels in the area. Great location not far from Boston's little Italy (a must do while there). Great price and good rooms. Parking could be cheaper $40 a night (ouch!)

on the hotels site everything looked beautiful and spacious. the rooms the really small even though have to admit beautiful.the so called "king" size bed was not even a queen size. the lounge downstairs was really small and boring and overpriced.i got a 13$ ruby red martini-a signature drink which wasn't even slightly pink.looked and tasted like a regular vodka martini. location was vary boring itself as well-nothing to do and restaurants closing before 9 pm. our flight got delayed so we asked for a late checkout and it was not granted.otherwise nice hotel but didn't meet our expectations and didn't live up to it's own hype

There was a dog barking in a guests room for the good part of each day and it was very annoying for other who wanted to work or sleep. Many guests complained of the noise, but the hotel employees said that the dog was to be walked every couple hours and there was nothing that they could do. However, there is something they could do and that is NOT allow dogs in the hotel.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Onyx on a Friday night while attending a Celtics game. We drove in from Rhode Island and loved the location. The plan was to stay somewhere close so we could walk to the local bars as well as the game and we could not have been more pleased! The room was very nice and the staff was very friendly. We definitely recommend the Onyx to anyone looking for a fun night in the city!

Some girlfriends and myself stayed at this hotel for a weekend. We were very happy with the cleanliness and ameneties in the room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I liked the decore and that it was close to the train station. The service was patchy - sometimes non existent or poor advice given, sometimes overly familiar. With regards to the room the bath too small. Finally for this type of hotel I expected better wine - the wine we ordered at the bar and that was available at wine hour was very average.

An absolutely wonderful hotel, especially for the price. The stay exceeded our expectations in all ways, except for the rip off breakfast we had on our last day. Not worth the 16.00 a piece price, or the automatic included tip at the buffet line. However, an excellent Sunday brunch down the street at Johnnies on the Side, complete with live reggae!

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el nov 25, 2008.
This was the first boutique hotel I've ever stayed in. Of course the design was great, comfortable beds, nice linens, and they have some 'green' hotel practices. What I was unhappy about was the fact that I had to pay for internet access at the 'business center' (which consisted of one computer). They did have free wireless but the signal was so weak you would get kicked off. You could pay an additional fee for a secure wireless access. Is that how boutiques work? You pay for services normally offered for free at most other hotels?

The rooms at the Onyx Hotel were comfortable- not particularily large, but not unreasonable. There was only one small window in the room with no view. The restaurant/bar was small in scale, but had good ambiance. The food at the restaurant was overpriced, and mediocre at best. The complimentary wine hour was a nice touch. The T North Station was within walking distance which was nice. The hotel felt as though it was sited in an area that was "between neigborhoods"- the North end was a quick walk away, as was Beacon Hill, but I couldn't say which neighborhood the Onyx actually belonged to.
