Hotel Plattenhof - Zúrich

Excellent location, very quiet. Small hotel, very modern. We liked the room, all white and simply furnished. The bed was very comfortable, with the best pillows we ever had. Good breakfast. Free internet would be a big +.

the lighting of room 303 seem not light enought especially compare to my fried who is living room 407 , his room is better , beside it is some noise outside as the church is very close to our hotel, the time for breakfast is too late because everyday we need to go out at 7:ooam , most hotel will start their breakfast around 6 to 6:3oam, I'm so dispointed that I can't enjoy it but the service of staff is good and friendly

Perfect for the Old Town which is an easy walk away and convenient for the tram system to go out and about the City. The Plattenhof is smart, modern and friendly. We enjoyed a quiet breakfast with plenty of choice, rooms were smart and functional although in 34 degrees of heat air con would have been welcome. The small bar area with outside seating is relaxing at any time of day and in the evening a good space to chill out.

The hotel is situated in excellent location; very close to trum->train. Quite but not far enough from city centre at all (walking distance if you like to walk). All staff members are very warm and helpful with anything that we requested. Breakfast is included. Good options to eat and staff is also good. Price is very reasonable for the facility and is in very good condition. One thing keep in mind, reservation is for one person, additional charges apply to additional person. But it should not be negative because it's a hotel policy.

We chose this hotel for its proximity to the old town. We did not realise just how close it was. A few minutes saw us wandering through the beautiful old streets to the hub of the city. It was wonderful to know that after a full day's sightseeing we had the very comfortable Plattenhof Hotel to return to. This hotel has a very contemporary feel to it and is efficiently run by young, multilingual staff who are eager to tend to your every need. However, it was difficult to get used to the fact that smoking in public places has not yet been outlawed in Zurich and at times the area round the reception desk, which is adjacent to the bar, became very smokey. Also, the only feature that our room lacked was air-conditioning which meant that we had to leave the windows open at night and be kept awake by the constant noise of the nearby street fountain. Overall, it was a very good experience and we will certainly be recommending this hotel to friends.

cleaning lady couldn't be bothered to dust or wash the sink, mirrors, etc.; bed was just a mattress on the floor surrounded by a wooden border so you're constantly smashing into it with your feet in the cramped/tiny room; breakfast nothing to write home about; staff rude and/or unhelpful; wouldn't stay here again!!!

The Plattenhof has outstanding customer service, well designed room, and a convenient location, about a block from a tram that'll take you right into the heart of the city. We've stayed here with our 5 year old son on 3 occasions and are always impressed.

We stayed for two nights at Plattenhof and found it to be a stylish and friendly hotel. We booked a discounted rate for a"design room" (we had room 107 - very modern and brand new) with breakfast, but the rate was still too expensive for what was on offer. I think that the hotel is charging excessive rates, since it is servicing a niche market and is trading on its reputation as a design boutique hotel. There is not enough staff to look after the reception desk during the day (the same person serves drinks at the bar and takes care of the reception desk) and in the evenings there is a curfew at 11, when the front entrance is locked and one can call the night porter to open up. The overall impression is of a luxurious youth hostel, rather than a hotel. Would recommend to young singles, couples. Location is good and transport to city centre very easy.

Perfect location, 5 min walk into the old town, 10 min walk to the lake/opera house, friendly staff, and a very nice breakfast to start off your day. Will definitely stay here when we travel to Zurich.

I just loved it, only disliked the fact that smoking is allowed but this is something I don't like about the whole country anyway, not Hotel's fault.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the very friendly hotel staff who brought us tea while they searched for our reservation. There were tons of people hanging out in the hotel bar/reception area having drinks in the afternoon so it felt very warm and inviting. It has a very familiar kind of feel--a nice place without being stuffy at all. You can tell this is in the University area, and that artists were involved in the hotel's design. The room had excellent lighting. Minimal, but modern decoration--really simple and elegant. A low, comfortable bed (one big mattress not two little ones pushed together) and modular furniture. The room was small by American standards, but "normal" by European standards. There was enough room to do yoga on the floor next to the bed, while my companion sat at the desk and did computer work. The only downfall is that this hotel is up a steep hill. It's a little challenging carting bags up there, but once you arrive it is worth it. It's still only 20-30 minutes to walk to the main train station. I personally liked having the walk uphill, very invigorating on a cold day! I heard that the breakfast was good, but it didn't start until 7AM and I had to leave at 6AM for the airport :(

If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Zurich the Plattenhof is for you. Just two minutes walk from trams that will take you to the centre of the city in a few minutes. The hotel is simple but the room we had (a standard room) was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent and there was a small bar which served snacks as well as a restaurant which we did not use.

On our second day, our room smelled completely of smoke, and there was some loud party going on below. Turns out some local students use the room directly below ours every week to chat and drink and smoke. Nobody at the hotel warned me about this, and I had a job interview the next day. I called downstairs to complain, and they said they'd ask the students to quiet down but probably to no avail (turns out they were right, the students kept yapping away). The next day, hotel staff let us change rooms for the rest of our stay, but our clothes smelled like smoke and I already had a bad night's sleep before my job interview. The damage was already done. The hotel wasn't even full, so I don't know why the staff even put me in a room above the nasty room at all, never mind without a warning. It's too bad, because it's a nice hotel otherwise, with a cool design concept and in a fun university neighborhood. But they were pretty thoughtless to put me in that room, and they didn't do anything about the problem when it happen. Hence my low rating.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Plattenhof, mostly because the staff were very friendly and helpful. The walk up the hill to the hotel from the river was longer than I expected, but it really wasn't too bad. I would definitely choose this hotel again.

The staff were welcoming, thoughtful and  courteous.The location in the university area was quiet and within easy walking distance of the Art Gallery, Old Town and Hautbahnhof/ Central district.The restaurant was a bonus.We would stay here again but would appreciate our showerhead being attached effectively to the hose!

We were there the end of June and it never dawned on us that there might not be any airconditioning in Switzerland as its an Alpine city! It was unseasonably warm and we had a hot night sleep. Otherwise amazing location, great big room, great FREE breakfast.

I booked this hotel for 4 nights of my long planned very expensive switzerland hotel. Based on reviews hotel looked pretty good, but had a horrible experience. staff was nice, but in-affective in anyway. There were several issues, with this hotel 1) We booked Queen bed, but given full upon asking we got reply that "this is all we have" 2) we were given room # 310. The floor in this room is slanted 2 ways, North and East due to crowning problems in building, which makes bed and all furniture slanted as well. it makes it feels like you are sleeping on downhill slope. when we complained first night, they said we will "look in to it but we are fully booked we can not change your room" second night we had same answer, - 3rd night we were given a smaller room after a much hesitation. we could not sleep 2 nights due to slanted floor. hotel manager refused to do anything about it. I am requesting 2 nights money back from hotels.com There were many other smaller issues, compare to what i have listed above, Plattenhof is intrested only in your money, they really do not care about your stay, review or customer service. they know you are just a visitor and regardless how you have been treated they have nothing to loose.

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel, the bathroom was very large and modern. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and all spoke English. It was a bit of a hilly walk to get to the center of the city but worth the walk.

Upon arrival, we were impressed with the fancy hotel we'd managed to score! The hotel was easy to find - tucked into a residential neighborhood less than a block from the tram. Finding an affordable dinner was more difficult though, and we should have just gotten something while we were still downtown. The staff were friendly and the included breakfast was by far the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. The views from our room were a plus as well - overlooking the city and tops of hill surrounding it. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.

If back in Zurich, I will never stay anywhere else! I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Plattenhoff. The room was well decorated, and the bed/pillows were VERY comfortable. The free breakfast in the morning offered lots of delicious options. Front desk staff were multi-lingual and very helpful. I was greeted with a warm cup of tea at check in -- nice on the cold, rainy day. The neighborhood was charming. There is a bakery and small grocer just around the corner, less than a minute walk away. The tram (line #6) is only 2-3 minutes walk away, and that will take you to the central rail station, the zoo and Banhoffstrasse (the main shopping area in Zurich). I liked the bar in the lobby area. It was a nice place to take a break and grab a drink. However, I wish it was nonsmoking. It was bothersome to walk through the building and always smell cigarette smoke. Zurich is thinking about making all indoor restaruants and bars nonsmoking, so that may fix itself soon. Overall, wonderful hotel in a charming city! I'm looking forward to finding a reason to go back.

The hotel was really good. A nice 5 minute walk to downtown. The only drawback was that there were quite a few smokers in the hotel. The room walls and doors did not necessarily keep other's smoke out.

As you may know, Zurich is unbelievably expensive. The room rates for Hotel Plattenhof are fantastic for Zurich. The hotel is situated in a very quiet neighborhood in the heart of the University. If you're from NYC or Chicago or another metropolitan area and are used to hoofing it, this Hotel is perfect for you. It's a 10-ish minute walk downhill to Old Zurich. Plattenhof's rooms are typical European fare. Sparse, not luxurious, but adequate. Breakfast is great, the coffee is good, and the service is extremely friendly and helpful (the Swiss aren't known for their friendliness). The overall hotel is charming though. There is WiFi, but you have to pay in per-minute packages. The restaurant has been expanded, is now quite large, and serves more than breakfast. Didn't eat lunch or dinner there. This Hotel is not for people with kids. It's popular because it's quiet. Spare yourself and your neighbors, stay somewhere else if you have tykes.

Generally pleased. To us negativity was the smoking areas that sometimes spread the stale odor around. Definitely however great room for the money for Zurich. Some minor issues but we did not find overly sognificant. Breakfast great.

This is a high-tech hotel with attractive rooms, clean & neat with nice bar and available computer. Ammenities such as special soaps were a nice touch. We especially enjoyed the breakfasts which were generous and of high quality. The hotel has a quiet, yet simple elegance to it. We found it was within walking distance of Lake Zurichsee and the 3 main cathedrals, as we are accustomed to walking 2-3 miles daily when at home. One suggestion is better lighting is needed in the bathroom.

Stayed in this hotel in July. Would not recommend it as a summer hotel option as there was no airconditioning and the hotel is on a busy street so it was very noisy with the windows open. Nice modern shower, very nice hotel bar and the people that work the front desk were some of the friendliest I have come across, so far. GREAT option for fall or winter. In the university area so it is somewhat far from the "downtown" area, but has it's own nice vibe.

Hotel is a 10 min. walk down to town, but walking back is up hill!! Restaurant is only open for nice breakfast buffet. We like our stay, but the bed is only 8 inches off the floor so if you can't get up or down that low, don't stay here. Staff was friendly, helpful.

Be prepared for a small room in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms are small and lack any real closet or storage space. The bed is not a normal mattress and box spring arrangement and rests on the floor. The hotel staff was most helpful and courteous.

Super hotel

Hvite vegger og sort dusjrom er ikke tilstrekkelig til å fortjene betegnelsen "designhotell". TV-skjermen var mindre enn medbragt PC og det ble opplyst at det var likt for alle rom. Rommet var knøttlite og fra vinduet så vi rett inn i vinduet på nabohuset slik at gardinene måtte holdes lukket. Kan ikke anbefales.

Goede locatie, net aan rand van de Altstadt, 10 min lopen naar de Zurichsee. Leuk en origineel vormgegeven interieur, vriendelijk en behulpzaam peroneel. Topontbijtje met naar wens goede cappucino's, espresso's etc.

Ottima soluzione per chi si reca a Zurigo; centrale, ben servito dai mezzi pubblici, pulito e ordinato. Silenzioso e dotato di un buon ristorante. Il personale della reception è gentile e disponibile. Davvero una buona scelta.

Forrygende hotel i lækert designede omgivelser. Hotellet ligger centralt og betjeningen er helt i top.

Das Bett ist für ältere Menschen zu niedrig. Das Frühstück ist teils sehr gut( Cerealien, Marmeladen, Brot); teils mangelhaft( etwas Billigkäse, keine gute Wurst, überhaupt kein Schinken).
