Hostal Persal - Madrid

Despite central location very quiet room at the back of the hotel allowed for a good night's sleep. Tiny bathroom but what can you expect at this price.

I really enjoyed my stay, the front desk staff were really helpful and my room was lovely and clean.

Given its name (Hostal Persal), we probably should have been better prepared for what it was. This hotel was in a great location and the public spaces were very nice. The room was more like a dorm than a hotel though. It was very sparse, with an old bathroom and a very very hard mattress. However, we stayed there for three days and it grew on us. The staff was friendly, the room was on an inner courtyard and was peaceful and quiet, and it was kept extremely clean. If you want lots of plush comfort, it's probably not the place for you, but if you're looking for a good price, a central location, and a quiet room I would absolutely recommend it.

Just to clear things up, this is not a hostel. It is a hotel. My room was tiny, even buy European standards for a single. Basic amenities, no dryer or iron. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Wifi available in the lobby, but it appeared as if they were installing it on every floor when I was there. Great location near the Metro Sol station.

The rooms are very basic, no frils but a great location you can walk almost everywhere in the center of town and the subway is a short walk away. It is a little bit tricky to get to the hotel because it is in a pedestrian only area. You need a taxi driver who knows where it is.

First, a little about the kind of traveler I am. I'm in my late 20's and was traveling with a buddy through Madrid and some southern cities. The Persal is NOT a hostel, definitely a hotel. All the rooms are private and have their own bathrooms. There isn't much to the rooms - beds, a modest desk and a wall mounted 19" flat screen tv (who travels to Europe to watch tv?). The bathroom was stock with the essentials, the shower head worked well enough, and it was very clean. The front desk attendants were always helpful and nice. Breakfast was included in our stay, which was a nice addition. Internet was available in hotel for a Euro for 15 minutes (go across the street and pay the same amount for an hour). The location is about as good as it gets. You're very central. There is a reason it only costs 1 euro to ride the Madrid metro for the day - you don't need to use it. Everything is in walking distance. Mind you, this is coming from an in shape guy who doesn't mind walking a lot. From the hotel the Prado museum is about a 5 minute walk in one direction and the Royal Palace is about 8 minutes in the opposite direction. There is a metro stop about 5 minutes from the hotel. Overall this was a great place for my needs. Modest room, good price, free breakfast, great location. Friendly people. I would recommend and go back. As with travel in any foreign country, make an attempt with the local language before breaking into English. The effort is more appreciated than you may think and you will get a much kinder response when transitioning to English.

booked a single room which was very small to be called a room. The bed was the size of my living room coach, and which was very uncomfortable sleeping on. If you are a tall person over 6:ft, avoid booking a single room. The walls are very thin. You can here what goes on in the other rooms.However, The staff are very nice and will try to please you while you are there.

Great room for the money, great location, in plaza del angel 3 blocks to the puerta del sol, 5 to plaza mayor.

This very European hotel is in a great location in Madrid, right near the Plaza Sol and all the sight seeing destinations. There are dozens of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. The breakfast that comes with your room is a real bonus, as breakfast when traveling is often expensive--they served a reliably good, simple buffet with excellent service and nice surroundings. The only down side to this hotel was the lack of hot water for showering in the morning--later in the day there was plenty but morning showers were bad. The room was tiny but that is typical for big cities. The room was also noisy, but hey--it was right on a busy plaza in Madrid, where night time is the time to socialize. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic Staff, very hospitable. We forgot a cell phone in the room after we signed out and the cleaning staff found it and brought it back to us. The staff is very helpful. The location is fabulous, steps away from all the main attraction. The hotel is situated on a lovely small square surrounded by small outdoor cafes and restaurants. We loved it! Great price - very inexpensive.

Rooms are small, my room had a shower with limited space to even turn around to rinse my back. Staff was friendly and very helpful in giving directions and suggestions about the area. Location was great, near to Sol, shopping areas and access to the subway system.

Hotel situé sur une petite place tres calme, accueil tres sympa, presque tous le personnel parle français, tres serviable. Chambre et salle de bains très propres, + clim!!

Hotellet ligger mycket centralt med nära till tunnelbana och alla restauranger och shopping.

l'hôtel est super, le personnel est très accueillant. La chambre est spacieuse et le petit déjeuner est copieux.

Propre et idealement situé, services sans rien à redire mais la chambre était petite et la déco et l'amenagement à revoir

Jeg boede en enkelt nat på Hostal Persal i Madrid. Meningen med opholdet var at sove der en enkelt nat for derefter at flyve hjem dagen efter. Det blev ikke til meget søvn den nat. Værelset var nemlig, uden overdrivelse, 40 grader, og det selvom vinduet stod åbent hele natten. Taget i betragtning, at opholdet var i slutningen af Januar, tør jeg slet ikke tænke på, hvor varmt der kan være om sommeren. Iøvrigt ingen WiFi på værelserne. I spent one night on Hostal Persal in Madrid. I was gonna stay one night and fly home the next day. I didn't get much sleep that night. Telling the truth there were about 40 degrees celcius in the room the entire night even though the window was open all night. I dare not thinking about how warm the room is in the summertime as my stay was in the end of January. No WiFi in the rooms.

Svært sentral beliggenhet i forhold til kjente severdigheter. Godt og rimelig hotell med hyggelig betjening, god frokost , små, men rene rom.

Das Hotel ist einfach, bietet aber alles was man braucht. Man sollte die Ansprüche aber nicht zu hoch schrauben. Sanitäranlagen wurden jeden Tag gereinigt, Betten gemacht und der Service an sich ist sehr zuvorkommend. Die Ausstattung der Zimmer ist einfach aber reicht völlig aus. Das Frühstück ist ordentlich. Käse und Wurst, jeweils eine Sorte, Kompott, Toast, kleine Brötchen, Croisants, mit Pudding gefüllte Teigtaschen, Kornflacks, Müsli und Marmelade gehörten zum Frühstück. Alles in allem ein einfaches aber sehr zu empfehlendes Hotel.

Das Hotel liegt sehr günstig mitten in der Stadt. Man kann viele Sehenswürdigkeiten zu Fuß erkunden. Trotzdem ist es sehr ruhig (Innenhof) bzw. kleiner verkehrfreier Platz. Nur das Frühstück könnte etwas abwechslungsreicher sein. Verwundert hat mich, dass man keinen Pfeffer (zum Käse) erhalten konnte!
