This hotel is in a great spot for exploring the city and within walking distance of many tourist spots. Really good size room and bathroom and super design throughout. Grat bar/lounge area, open all day, as well as rooftop bar, the latter is quite small but worth a visit. Restaurant really good and varied menu - excellent tempura!

The De Las Letras is a fine hotel, located just a few steps from the Gran Via metro stop and near the historical sites and nightlife. Don't be fooled, however, by the somewhat grand looking picture of the building. These are simple accommodations, though everything you need. we had two identical rooms in the rear and so didn't have noise problems. The bathrooms were quite large and the room itself was standard size. Great linens and towels. my only complain is that there is really no lobby, and therefore no good place to wait on a taxi or, in our case, a friend who was picking us up.

The location was perfect. Pretty much equal distance from the major museums and the Plaza Mayor. The hotel itself was very clean with very spacious rooms. The only odd part was the bathroom mirror is so far away from the sink. Both me and my wife noted this odd design. It's not a big deal, but it seems to have been designed with the long necked individual in mind.

The lobby and reception are small and sparse so we didn't know what to expect when we rode up the elevator. However, our room was very nice with a small balcony on the Gran Via. The location is excellent.

We had 2 rooms for our stay becuase we travelled with 2 teens. The hotel is better suited for singles. The hotel seems to attract an artsy crowd, mostly gay and model types. The rooms, particularly the bathroom, has very bad lighting. The size of the rooms were fine and clean. Rooms facing The Grand Via are extremely noisy at night, one of the reasons I would avoid the area in the future. People screaming, alarms going off, etc. Finally the streets next to and behind the hotel were fully of undesirables.

We recently stayed at the De Las Letras H&R for three nights. The rooms are simple and well-designed. Bathroom was spacious and clean, outside of some water damage to the door frame. We slept extremely well in the comfortable not-too-hard, not-too-soft bed. Location on the Gran Via is tough to beat -- if you head out the hotel to the left, you cover Gran Via in about 15 minutes. To the right, you reach Madrid's top museums in about 15 minutes. We covered the city on foot and only used the Metro to come into the center from the airport. Noise might be an issue given the level of traffic on Gran Via. We were lucky and received a room toward the end of the corridor -- the balconies toward the end on each side are glassed in, which I'm sure helps to dampen the sound. We did not try the restaurant but we did spend some time every evening at the bar on the roof. Comfortable atmosphere as well as good service. When we did wander out, the best food we had was at the tapas restaurant right across the street.

Stayed for two nights. The hotel worked out perfectly. Great location, close to the Chueca neighborhood with all its bars, restaurants, and shopping, and only a short walk to sights like the Prado and Plaza Mayor. The rooms were a good size, with large, modern bathroom and small balcony overlooking the Gran Via, and were well-maintained and clean. The hotel's lounge was fairly expensive for drinks, but the rooftop terrace was worth it. Would definitely stay again, and would recommend to anyone planning to stay in Madrid.

This hotel is just stunning. Although the hotel as a very vanguardist design it is true to the original Belle Epoque period. I would define as conservative with an edge like Spain itself. The public spaces are incredible. Go to the terrace for an incredible view of Madrid. The sauna was soothing and healing after a long trip. A wonderful experience in a hotel with a lot of character.

A chic, modern refit in a nice old building with high ceilings, balconies and a bit of heritage. Staff spoke good English (and I'm sure great Spanish! :). Access to spa facilities (hammam, jacuzzi, sauna, steam shower and rain shower) is now free. Excellent location on Gran Via just a few metres away from the Metro, a few minutes from Gran Via shopping and the El Retiro and a half way between the great going out areas of La Latina and Malesana.

This is a stylish, ultra modern renovation inside an old building full of character. We loved the fact that the hotel had a library open round the clock with computers for email access (though the book selection is currently quite limited). The multi-lingual front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The rate is more than I would normally want to pay, but it was a special occasion so I splurged. Our room had a lovely balcony and there are some great views from the rooftop terrace. The spa is very nice as well. It is a good location as a jumping off point (near the Gran Via metro stop).

We stayed from the 29th Dec - 2nd Jan the hotel was great, very central, the room was clean and the sheete were changed every other day, towels every day. The staff were helpful, we asked for hot water and cups every morning to make a drink and it was no problem, and no charge. We had a balcony over looking the main road, when the doors were closed it was quiet. The hotel bar was no more expensive than most bars in the city. We celebrated NYE on the roof terrace! Do the cable car ride at Telerifico, stop 21 on the red tour bus line, amazing.

Second time we'd stayed at the DLL hotel. Rooms are v comfortable, clean and with good facilities. If you need a perfectly quiet room probably best to request one at the back of the hotel, off the Gran Via. Bar, v good, restaurant excellent. Requested a late check out as our flight home was in the evening, and this was no problem for them at all.

We enjoyed our stay at De Las Letras - it is located on Gran Via which is a main street in Madrid and pretty central to everything. The women at the front desk were very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. The men at the front desk weren't. My biggest complaint is the lighting in the room and bathroom. As a woman who wanted to apply makeup, the undercounter mood lighting in the bathroom was horrible and the natural light in the bedroom was nice but there is no mirror in the bedroom. We loved the terrace bar on the 7th floor. It was very cool. Interesting hotel, fairly spacious rooms for Europe, clean.

Comentado por Karen, deBoynton Beach, el may 22, 2008

For Europe, the hotel was really nice and the rooms very clean and modern. We loved having free internet and a really cool blue light elevator that when you ride up and down, makes you look like you're either part of Blue Man Group or a Smurf (take your pick). I would say, for the price, it was a pretty good value. The only slight annoyance is that you have to walk through the lobby to get to the elevator, which is connected to their bar, with no door (which is kind of odd)...hence breath in even more cigarette smoke than you are already forced to breathe in throughout the rest of Spain. All in all though, really good hotel and I am very very picky.

Excellent location. Great spa, very nice and helpful staff, interesting decor with beautiful Spanish poetry on the walls. One of the best buffet breakfasts I've had. Only slight complaint was that there's no true lobby, though there's a lovely restaurant/lounge on the ground floor. I had a feeling that maybe they were redoing the lobby, though, so I guess that complaint won't exist for long anyway!

We stayed at De Las Letras on the first nights of our honeymoon and couldn't have asked for a more perfect place. A beautiful modern room with all the comforts and perks you could hope for, with a beautiful view of Gran Via and classic Madrid. It is in a wonderful neighborhood, not too touristy, and walking distance from a plethora of tapas bars and restaurants that feel like they are full of locals hopping from bar to bar for a bite and a beer. By far the best part of our honeymoon! Can't say enough about it!

This hotel was very nice. The staff were very helpful - made restaurant reservations/gave good reccomendations. the room was nice and airy with a balcony. comfortable bed. Location was good as it was near everything. Only Bad thing I will say is the hotel bar was not very good. uncomfortable chairs and rude waiters. IMPORTANT NOTE: the rooftop bar is not open all year round. Only in the summer months.

The Hotel is ideally located on the Gran Via and is within walking distance of museums, shops and Metro stations. Staff were very helpful, rooms are well appointed and clean. We were on the 3rd Floor of the hotel overlooking a side street and although a little noisy it was not that intrusive. I would suggest asking for a room on one of the upper floors to minimise the noise especially if on the Gran Via side of the Hotel. The hotel has a Spa facility and access is included in the room price. All in all an excellent hotel, location, etc. If returning to Madrid we would stay there again.

I liked the "boutique" feel of this hotel, nestled into an old building but with modern conveniences and an "avant-garde" look. I got a decent-sized, comfortable room for a good price. Ten-minute walk to Retiro Park. (Important for me, because I needed a place to run, and the park is wonderful for that!) "Fitness room" is a bit of a misnomer -- there's nothing there but a treadmill and a stationary bike. The spa area is wonderful, and very relaxing. TV was rather small, but I didn't rent the room to watch TV; it was fine for the morning CNN / SkyNews fix. _Free_ wireless Internet access in rooms! Almost unheard of in this class of hotel in Madrid, and a significant benefit. Efficient staff who gladly speak English when needed. Cozy bar and decent breakfast, though of course the prices are high, as usual in Madrid.

Normally very relliable, good high speed free internet, comfortable room & good Restaurant including Sushi/Sahsimi. This time the internet was so slow it was unusable. The restaurant took 4 attempts to get me a main course and then tried to charge me when it still wasn't good. I'll go again hoping this was an abberation

Hotel rooms nice, clean , comfy beds & comfy tub - very modern in design. Smoking (but this is everywhere in spain)smell is horrible!! Front desk very helpful with reservations, directions etc - no concierge on staff. Also all front desk staff spoke english. The servers in the restaurant did not speak english very well which made ordering room service difficult. Upstairs on roof top very cute set up with tables and bar - but not open bc "too cold" in January. Hotel also lacks a large front reception area for meeting friends but did have a great basement library and internet for guests to use at no charge. If looking to go for New Years Eve - make dinner reservations somewhere - expensive at all restaurants but at least you can eat !

We really enjoyed our stay at the De Las Letras. The location was perfect for us. Close enough but not too far from the busy Sol, and very near Chuenca's great restaurants and tapas bars. The staff was fine -- and our room was large with simple furnishings and great lighting. Our bathroom was large, functional and stylish. I enjoyed the street view from our balcony. The "DL" has a nice feel to it. A great hotel that pays attention to details.

We booked this hotel on reading reviews and were not disappointed, we arrived early 12noon and were booked in. Hotel is in a central position, we did not have breakfast in hotel but it is no problem going to Vitema or Zahara which does a good cup of tea. We didn't eat in restaurant as we wanted to see as much of Madrid as possible. Hotel rooms are modern, great bathroom, roof terrace lovely especially in a big city. Staff were all very helpful and pleasant.

The hotel was in a great location, and the hotel staff was very helpful. The room was very well decorated and clean. Visiting Spain from the US was difficult in the previous cities we visited (Valencia and Alicante), knowing limited Spanish. This hotel was the first one where the hotel staff spoke English. In the other hotels it was obvious that they were annoyed by US visitors. The staff at De Las Letras went above and beyond to be helpful and friendly to us.

The front desk personal were very accommodating (they called the airlines regarding our lost luggage on several occassions). The room was clean, but the shower would leak water all over the bathroom floor. The hotel was in a very convenient location and was quiet despite being right on the Gran Via. Watch out for bar prices. A mixed drink of Crown Royal and ginger ale cost over 15 euros! The wine prices were quite reasonable.

This hotel is gorgeous! Every detail has been beautifully planned. All staff members speak perfect English, and are very helpful with recommending restaurants, shops, bars, etc. The hotel also has a very popular restaurant and bar, with an additional rooftop bar serving tapas for hotel guests. My favorite feature of the hotel was a reading library on the bottom floor that also has two internet-connected computers. The hotel also has a spa with an impressive list of services, though we didn't get the chance to use them. The rooms are beautifully decorated, boasting the most comfortable beds in Europe. Metro stops are half a block away, and the hotel staff gives marvelous directions to all of Madrid's most popular attractions. We will be back for sure!
