Petro Palace Hotel - St. Petersburg

This hotel is within walking distance of just about everything in St. Petersberg. The location cannot be beat. The rooms are roomy with heated bathroom floors and are clean and updated. The staff is fantastic and actually recommended I take the hydrophoil to Peterhoff rather than spend a lot of money on an organized tour. I really appreciated that tip. The breakfast was only OK but sufficed and there is a small grocery store down the street where you can get water and snacks. I would go back to this hotel in a heart beat!

This is a great little hotel with friendly staff, good concierge (arranged taxi's to the Mariinsky/airport and told me about the hydrophoil to Peterhoff as opposed to selling me an expensive tour). If you don't want to spend a lot of $$ on breakfast and its not included they have a very nice variety of "light" breakfasts. All in all very nice. The lobby and rooms are very pleasing to the eye and comfortable. For the money, its the best bet around.

The hotel is in a great location, within 15 minutes walk from the many toursist places and Nevsky Prospect. St. Pete was warm and the hotel had turned off the AC in all rooms. The room had no openable windows and the room felt a little stuffy. The management shrugged off our complaints and blamed the problem on the warm weather. Other than that, our room was comfortable. Make sure AC and/or heat is on when you book. Great consierge support. The front desk folks are a bit unfriendly.

Petro Palace was in a fabulous location - blocks from the Hermitage, St. Issac's and many more site seeing opportunities. The staff wasn't overly helpful but certainly passed the test as they spoke english! (english is barely spoken in all of Russia but St. Petersberg is much better!) I would stay here again ... if I were to return.

This is an fantastic hotel located on a quite street only one block from all the highlights of Saint Petersburg. Staff members were helpful and responsive.

The hotel was in a good location - within walking distance to the Hermitage, St. Issac's cathedral, Kazan cathedral, Yusokov palace, etc. The only problem is that it is too hot in the room and the only way to control temperature is to open and close the windows. the heat was always on. thermostat in room just controlled a noisy fan. We found most buildings in Russia are overheated. We got a deluxe room which was very large. The "queen" bed was actually 2 twins pushed together and they were rather hard - but the bedding was fine. We paid extra for the breakfast - either buffet or continental. One bad thing is that if one of you wants the buffet and the other wants the continental, you can't sit in the same room. Very odd but true. We had dinner in the restaurant one night - food was good but the entertainment was mediocre - the most bored looking performers I've ever seen.

We reserved the hotel 1 month a go, room with two twins, pay off. When we arrived at the hotel late and tired the fronnt desk said the rom is nice when open the door the room has only one twin and small provitional bed . the room was only for one person. The carpet no clean. We return to the desk and had a big discutions after that they put in one upgrate room, only for one night. they said sorry we overboking...they sold our room....The next day move a normal twin room witha conecction with other room (they snoring and smoked to much), the carpet was cleaning with strong product, the cortines broken and the small refrigerator no worked. I hope they change beacause is central and have good instalations.

By American standards, the Petro Palace hotel rooms are one or two star level. The hotel itself has three star services and a very helpful staff. Don't forget there is an 18% VAT charge on everything, i.e., theatre tickets ordered, food, car service, etc. The massage therapist was amazing, at a great price. Five euro to use the one computer in the business center is acceptable. But not when I had to wait an hour and a half to use it. The food at the hotel bar was not good (stale sandwiches). You stay at the Petro Palace because it's safe, affordable, and you can walk to the Hermitage. With this full disclosure, I would recommend the Petro Palace. Make sure the driver knows which airport terminal you need when departing. My driver didn't, and I ended up spending 400 rubles in addition to the 1900 I paid to the Petro Palace to get to the correct airport terminal.

My wife and i took a night train from Moscow and arrived in our St Petersburg hotel at 9am.When we tried to check in we were told we would have to pay 55euro as we were too early.I asked for a manager and he than reduced the early fee to 45euro.I was told that the hotel had not been full from the previous night so after an embarrasing stand off we were given a room in which to shower and change{after our train journey} at no cost.It transpired that I was dealing with the night manager who had been working for the previous 14 hours straight.If i had known the hassle i would not have chosen this 4 star hotel.Surely cmmon sense and good management shou have prevailed.

I could not believe the service of such a wonderful Hotel. The people that work there were very nice, and helped with any Question I had about the sites, transportation. The food in hotel was very good and staff very kind.

This hotel is a very short walk from St Isaac's Cathedral, the Hermitage, the Admiralty Building and the Neva river and its bridges to adjoining islands. Standrards of cleanlieness in the hotel were exceptional. The hotel staff are courteous and helpful and have a good command of english. The hotel bedroom was adequate in size but lacked imagination when it came to decor and finish. The bathroom on the other hand was very comfortable with a decent shower (no bathtub) and underfloor heating; a real luxury in winter with temperatures well below 0 degrees.

Good tourist hotel. Nothing exceptional, but great location and price. Go for the bigger rooms, as the small ones are tiny.

This hotel is in an excellent location, has nice ammenities, good service and is very clean. The price is very good for the area.

Excellent room in a great location at a good price. I've stayed the the Angleterre right around the corner and PetroPalace is on par with that at about half the price. I will stay at the PetroPalace in the future.

Went for a 4 day long weekend, and this hotel was extremely close to just about every sight we wanted to see---a 15 minute walk maximum. The rooms were very clean, and the beds comfortable. A nice little extra was the heated floors in the bathroom!

All hotels in Russia are very expensive, but this is not as bad as some. Very nice, but really barely the 4 stars given it. Perfectly fine, wonderful location, very clean. The restaurant is not very good, and the Gypsy music entertainment is not worth seeing. Seems like most of the guests were Russian tourists - not Americans or European. I liked this hotel very much.

Great location. Housekeeping and bell captain very friendly, helpful, and conscientious. Front desk staff great during day but not so great or helpful in evening. Concierge "did the job" but not terribly pleasant or helpful. Outrageous charges for taxi service (& it was hard to find a taxi on the street). Terrific breakfast options and nice staff in breakfast room. Wireless internet access available only in the lobby. I would still recommend the hotel because it was clean and convenient.

This is a clean and friendly hotel with a lot of services located in the very heart of the city. The Hermitage is within 10 minutes walking distance, and gostinny dvor is just a 15 minute slow walk down nevsky prospekt. All in all I would say it's one of the better hotels in Russia, and I've stayed in dozens.

My husband and I were a little apprehensive after booking then reading reviews. However we found the reviews to be unfounded. Our standard room size was fine as we had no intention of staying in the room during the day. It was modern and quiet with a large walk in shower. The staff were very helpful and spoke English better than the Russian I had learnt before going. All in all a good hotel and very local to some of the main monuments we went to see.

Dates of stay: 20/01 - 27/01 2008. Arrived very late on 20/1 and could not have been more impressed with the way we greeted at reception. Throughout our stay - this was one area that continually impressed. Staff were always friendly, helpful and all spoke great English which was important for me. The rate included breakfast which was of a good quality, served in the Baron Restaurant and always plentiful. Same choices every day, but varied enough not to get bored with! Fitness centre including pool, jacuzzi, solarium, gym and massage facilities were all excellent, as was the hotel room. I stayed in a standard room throughout and found it to be comfortable and roomy enough. The free safe facilities was comforting, and the room was cleaned and made-up daily which was also a great touch. Being located close to the Palace Embankment, the hotel is within easy walking distance of the main sights - St Isaacs, Hermitage, Pushkins apartment, Admiralty, etc. However, we ate one evening in the Baron restaurant which was extremely disappointing. Staff slow and unfriendly and quality of food not fitting a 4* hotel at all. But this did not spoil our enjoyment, as the restaurants nearby were excellent. The hotel advertised a "Russian Billiards" and Games room. This has been closed and not to be replaced - so beware if you are looking for it within the hotel!! Overall a great hotel in a great location.

Location can't be beat. Otherwise fine, but nothing great. A lot of money for what you get, but seemed to be pretty standard pricing for St Petersburg.

We were very satisfied with Petro Palace. It was ideally located-you could walk to everything. They weren't great about our needing to check in early as our train came in at 9 am.And the concierge is kind of a joke in terms of not being helpful/not knwing much. But they were very accomodating when we had to leave at 6:30 am. They made as a to-go breakfast. Overall, very good deal for the money.

This is an older updated hotel, a block off Nevsky in the historial section by the Admiralty. The room was fine, clean, nice bathroom and good breakfast BUT the phone charges were listed as "units". Nothing was in Euros except the phone which I discovered when I received my bill much to my shock and surprise. When I complained and attempted to negotiate a reduction I was treated very belligerantly and no one was even willing to talk about any reduction any discussion centered on how this was "my fault" for not checking to find out what they meant by "units". They lost this traveller, but I think they don't care. That was their attitude

le principal atout de l'hotel est d'être en plein centre ville ce qui permet de circuler facilement et d'être proche de l'hermitage. chambre spacieuse mais personnel froid et il faut toujours faire la navette entre la réception et le concierge pour avoir la moindre information pas de room service après 23H si vous appelez 5 mn avant la fermeture du room service vous ne serez pas servi facturation excessive des modalités de référencement russe

God standard på hotell. Ypperlig beliggenhet i forhold til severdigheter.

Renlighed meget vigtigt. Placering god, gåafstand til det hele. Vi er tilfredse, og vil vælge det igen en anden gang.

Ett perfekt val om man vill ha nära till sevärdheter och shopping, ja nära till det mesta. Alldeles bredvid St Isakskatedralen och bara ett par minuters promenad till Eremitaget och stora shoppinggatan. Man slipper slösa dyrbar tid på transporter. Bra restauranger alldeles intill och hotellets egen Var också väldigt bra. Enda minuset på vår vistelse var den svindyra frukosten. För övrigt är vi jättenöjda.

Rätt dyrt m tanke på ingen frukost ingick. Bra läge, köp gärna frukost i ngn av livsmedelsbutikerna på samma gata. Roomservice frukost svindyr. Units betyder Euro i prislistan, och korven vågade vi inte äta då den endast var ljummen.

Ligt zeer strategisch voor Hermitage en andere bezienswaardigheden. Staf zeer behulpzaam en engelssprekend en attent: op mijn verjaardag werd ik gefeliciteerd door de staf en stond er een fles champagne in een koeler op de kamer.

Ottimo albergo in posizione centralissima per le varie escursioni. le stanze sono comode e pulite. Il personale non è dei migliori come "simpatia" ma questo riguarda in generale la popolazione locale un po' freddina.

Hotellet med bra standard låg väldigt centralt med närhet till de flesta berömda sevärdheterna. Personalen var tillmötesgående och trevliga och de flesta förstod engelska. Vårt rum var ok, endast kuddarna var "som gummi" och en viss mögellukt fanns i badrummet.

Viendelijk mensen, goede verzorging, uitstekende kwaliteit .

Hotellet är väldigt prisvert, med bra belägenhet till centrum, bara 5 min gångväg till Vinterpalatset. Servicen var lite långsam, men det var den øverrallt, så det var inget ovanligt (vi är lite mer effektiva i norden:) Det ända som jag kan sätta i minus är att derat "tuist info" inte var alls "service minded".

Hotellt ligger nära alla viktiga sevärdheter i St. Peterburg. Trevlig personal. Jag rekommenderar verkligen det här hotellet.
