This was a lovely hotel for the price I paid. There was coffee and tea each afternoon and you were able to sign up for the breakfast you wanted. The portions were great and the menu is posted the night before. A nice walk to Harvard square and to the T. Parking was tight so once we got a space we left it for the entire stay. When I am in Cambridge I will stay here again. The location and service was wonderful. The only criticism is almost all the baked goods have nuts, this is a common allergy so I was surprised to see the lack of "nut free" options.

Comentado por Virginia, dePhiladelphia, el jul 8, 2009
Loved everything about this charming B & B -- beautiful room, comfortable bed, great breakfast, location, and service, and the parking was a definite plus. The only complaint is that the bathroom, though nice, was cramped, with no counter space, hooks for a robe, no soap rack in the shower, etc. We were in a newer wing behind the historic building (I think it was the bridal suite). It had a large jacuzzi tub, which didn't leave room for a well-designed shower.

Very comfortable. My room was plenty big (although I understand each room is a bit different). Everything was nice and clean. I expected plumbing/hot water problems since it's a historic building, but had no such difficulties! Friendly staff. Breakfast and afternoon tea were both awesome.

I was looking for a nice place to stay while up in Boston for a Sox game. The Inn looked nice and the price was right, especially when compared to other Boston hotels. It was much more than I expected. The room was lovely - not big, mind you - but lovely. The Inn itself very charming and the morning breakfast was great. They had parking (at no additional cost - unlike most Boston hotels) and is a mere 5 minute walk from Porter Square and perhaps a 15 minute walk from Harvard Square. Helpful and friendly staff. Clean, comfortable, charming rooms. I recommend it highly.

I was pleasantly surprised with my stay here. The room was lovely and very comfortable. The price is an outstanding deal for the area. The parking is a little tight but it's safe and convenient. I wish that I had been able to stay more than one night here.

Comentado por B, deHouston, el abr 22, 2009
The staff was quite cordial but when I checked in I had to carry my own luggage up to the third floor. There is no elevator and the stairs are steep so try to book a room on the first or second floor if possible. The breakfasts are delicious and the cookies served at tea time are great. The hotel is located about 4 blocks from Porter Square and about a 20 minute walk from Harvard Square. I would recommend this hotel.

I needed a clean, safe place to "flop" for an overnight stay when I was attending an event at Harvard. The Mary Prentiss was so lovely, I was sorry I was in such a hurry. The room was in excellent condition, either very recently renovated or just kept in pristine condition. It was luxuriously appointed with the best bed linens, toiletries and amenities. The common rooms where tea and breakfast is served are perfect, with a fire blazing in the fireplace. A full breakfast is included, but I opted for a continental breakfast and got homemade granola, yogurt, fresh fruit and banana nut bread. It would have been perfect if the location of the main office was clear. I kept looking expectantly at everyone in the dining room and sunroom who were just guests enjoying their tea. The receptionist -- a 20-something student -- is in a cubby under the stairs who did not go out of her way to greet me, although she was very pleasant and helpful when I asked. Also, my room (#3) was perfect for one person, but if I had been traveling with my husband it would have been too small. Couples should ask for the larger rooms, which I did not see on this visit. But overall, an excellent place to stay if you have business around Harvard.

From the 'high tea' being served when I checked in to the excellent breakfast the next morning, the MPI was a most pleasant and hospitable place. The staff has helpful, but unobtrusive, and the room antiqued, but with a over-sized flat screen. It is an easy walk to Harvard Square and the T. The only down-side was the parking, which is both limited and convenient only for the patient driver with a small car. I enjoyed my brief stay at the MPI, and plan to revisit it on my next trip to Boston.

I know this review is a little dated, but this was a wonderful place to stay. We stayed at the Mary Prentiss in on July 3 and 4th. We loved the area and the ease of walking to Harcard Square. We also explored Harvard Univerisity which is something I had wanted to do. The history in Cambridge is very interesting. We enjoyed our room, which was on the second floor. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small, but fine for us. We also enjoyed the brekfast in the morning. Coffee was good and the food delcious. We plan on staying here again and probably will bring our friends. Thank you for a great stay.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el may 29, 2008.
This is a "historical" Bed and Breakfast in the heart of the Cambridge college comunity - very close to the Harvard campus. Being from NYC, I can best describe the neighborhood as a suburban version of Grenvich village. Which is a nice thing. They serve breakfast (including homemade cereal) and have an afternoon setup including coffee, tea and cookies (which seem homemade). The staff was pleasant and helpful and there was a computer in the downstairs lounge area for the limited use of guests (we did some research on nightclubs - with some personalised input from the lady who was at the desk). ('course, the hotel also provides free wireless access for your own computer) The waitress in the morning was likewise very accomodating to our special food needs. The only caveat with this hotel -- its "historical". So, while everything is clean and very well maintained, the easy chair in our room was a bit threadbare and I refrained from using the armoire because I could not tell whether the "distressed wood" and stains were an affectation or real.

Lovely Inn in Cambridge; close to Harvard Yard (maybe a 10-15 minute walk). Parking was a bit tight for my van in the underground garage, but at least it was free. It's best to park and walk if possible, as Cambridge traffic is awful and parking is $$$. Wonderful breakfasts and afternoon tea.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el may 18, 2008.
The location of the inn is in walking distance to Harvard square with nice shops along the way. The afternoon tea was delightful, and the breakfast excellent. The room had a loft bedroom with somewhat steep stairs, and the only bathroom was on the lower level. Not a good situation for someone who gets up at night, and I would not recommend it for someone who has trouble with stairs. The bed was comfortable and the loft bright and airy. The "antiques" in the living area seemed a little shabby. All in all, however, for that price, I would stay there again.

The Inn is charming and very nice. To get the most out of your stay request one of the "coach suites". You will get a fireplace and jacuzzi tub. These are new, but the building was built to resemble a coach house. The only thing lacking in the Inn is the staff. They are a bit unmotivated and do not try to add to the charm of the hotel at all. The decorations attempt to maintain a "period" feel but at times are a bit jumbled up with Americana and Country themes. A closer attention to detail would make this a 5 star hotel, but over all it is a charming inn. The Inn is about 5 short blocks from the "T" and a mile from Cambridge. There are many small restaurants just a block from the Inn including a very good Italian place. Also check out the very cute Mexican art shop a block away.

This was our first stay, but I don't think I would stay again. The service is excellent and the location is good. The parking is not so good and the age of the building can be heard. Every board creaks and when the neighbors in the next room got up and ready at 5 am it was hard to sleep. We could heard the shower, floor, hair dryer and the doors opening and closing. If you sleep hard then this is a great place. Otherwise you might want to consider a renovated B & B or hotel. Thank you to the staff though for an extremely inviting stay. Tea and breakfast was fabulous.
