Lovely hotel, from the lounge near reception to the rooms and the adjoining restaurant. Other than one front desk clerk all of the staff was friendly, helpful, and genuine. We were given one of the newer rooms, lovely decor, loved the bathroom! We would stay here again, with the beautiful people.

We stayed for one night during the festival, for our wedding anniversary. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. The room was lovely, well presented and with great views. I mentioned that the shower fixing was loose in the bathroom and it was mended within minutes. All round,we had a lovely hotel stay and it really made the trip to Edinburgh special.

We spent one night in The George Hotel, Edinburgh, as part of a trip around Scotland. This was definitely the best place we stay in that week, though not at all the most expensive (thanks to the very good internet rates of Hotels.com). The service was just great, they gave us an excellent room and even kindly help us to find our luggage the next day because we lost the receipt from the concierge. By the way The George Hotel has been awarded several "best hotel" titles and it's deserved!

From the exterior, it seems like a nice hotel, and I completely understand that it was an older hotel. However, our room was rather tiny and faced an alleyway, not what we were expecting nor what we were told that we were getting. The staff was nice, but it didn't make up for the disappointing room.

Located on George Street this hotel was easy to get to, within walking distance of both the Waverly Bridge train station (also the location of the Airlink bus drop off) and bus stops. But Beware the uphill climb from the train station. Shopping (both tourist friendly and higher quality merchandise) was nearby, as well as a selection of dining options. Room was stocked with the regular amenities: toiletries, tea tray, hair dryer, although there was also local tourist information that was handy. The phone rates are clearly outlined in pamphlets left in the room and are not outrageous. And the hotel had a lift! Something I had taken for granted, but I had the recent experience of lugging my bags up stairs and could have wept for joy at the sight of those wonderful devices.

I thought we'd be staying in a stately old hotel, but I was impressed with the modern interior. The exterior is still stately and old, but the service was great and we had every convenience. The location was near everything we wanted to see and although Princes Street was under construction, George Street was in great shape.

The George is ideally situated for a stay in central Edinburgh. Pleasant staff, rooms are well equipped (especially the new block on 1st floor). George street has loads of bars and restaurants among which the hotel's own Tempus bar. Only criticism is the business centre where they want to charge £9 for the use of a computer (even if you don't want internet access). Also there is no parking and very tough traffic wardens outside.

The George Hotel was a very nice hotel near the bus station (I came on bus from Glasgow). There were plenty of restaurants on the same street as the hotel, but the more historical sites were a little walk away. I found that I walked more around the Royal Mile area than I did in the area around the hotel. The hotel was delightful. The room was modern, large and comfortable, and the staff was kind and helpful. It was a tad too fancy for what I needed it for (a place to crash), but the bed was heavenly! I highly recommend this hotel. I just note that you will likely be spending most of your time in areas not near the hotel, but they are areas that are generally within walking distance from the hotel.

Within walking distance of any place you want to be as a tourist in Edinburgh, the hotel is ideally located. Room was huge and well appointed. The bed was huge and very firm. Room was very clean. Being in the middle of the city, the hotel had no guest parking, but you could park on-street or in the local multi-story. Adds to the cost, but expected in advance.

Stayed at this hotel to attend a wedding reception and would recommend it. Location is extremely central, rooms were a bit small but adequate, good service, standard of cleanliness etc. Only minor issues: 1 There's a nightclub immediately across the road (George Street). If you have a room overlooking the street, you may experience some noise. 2 If you have your own car, parking is a nightmare during the day. 3 The hotel has a strange requirement where they have to approve the use of your credit card at the front desk in order to buy drinks after regular closing time. But no-one tells you this at check-in, which resulted in a queue of people trying to get their card approved at reception at 2am. 4 The adjoining hotel bar (Tempus?) plays loud music in the early evening which is disruptive to conversation (even though they're serving meals at the same time). If anything, the volume seemed to decrease as the night went on. Seems a bit strange as the bar isn't the type of place you go for an evening out, more somewhere to meet and go on somewhere afterwards.

Would definitely stay here again. Service at front desk was excellent, room was very spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Is very centrally located, with shops and lots of restaurants nearby. Had to pay for the business centre, would have been nice if there was a PC where guests could surf web or do airport check-in without having a charge. Only down side to that is there is some noise late at night when clubs empty, but does not last too long.

Fabulous location - in the middle of great restaurants and bars and only a 2 min walk to views of the castle. Hotel is beautiful and the rooms are newly refurbished and very comfortable. Only let down was the skills of the reception staff - they didnt seem to know what they were doing and if a mistake could be made - it was! They seemed flustered at all times and there were a lot of disgruntled guests! We had a fire alarm in the middle of the night - not one employee reassured guests not to panic and no explanation was given for the false alarm!

I find it hard to writte anything about this hotel that I was not pleased with. So I'm not going too. Great location, friendly staff, fantastic breakfast buffet with an additional menu for people who might have a craving for porrige or why not smoked haddock? The room was lovely, not too mention the bed. tried to pack it in my suitcase when we left, but ufortunately it was a little bit to big, it was HUGE. Everything was very clean. The restaurant belonging to the hotel was a very nice nice experience, not to mention the cocktails in a very nice and relaxed bar, with great staff. Highly recommend a stay at The George.

My boyfriend and I stayed at The George Hotel for two nights over the August bank holiday weekend in 2008. As everybody says, parking is limited in Edinburgh in general but we managed to find a space right outside the hotel whilst we went to check in. We were dealt with immediately at the front desk and when we asked where we could park over our stay we were told we could remain in the space we had parked in overnight free of charge as it was a Sunday. She also gave us a map of the nearest car park for when we moved it and told us that if we take the car parking ticket to reception they could validate it and get 20% off the fee. The bedroom and bathroom were immaculate and well decorated, the only thing I would really say is that it lacks a bit of natural light and was a bit on the small side but it was not small or dark enough to bother us. Despite being situated on a main road you can't hear any noise from the outside even with the window open. We didn't have a breakfast or eat in the restaurant of the hotel but we did have a few drinks in the bar, the Tempest. Again, well decorated, pleasant staff. Nothing to complain about as it was quite quiet due to being a Monday night. All in all a very nice hotel with friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Looks great. Very clean. Brilliant location as it's right on George Street which is one of the main streets in the city centre. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to a friend.

This hotel certainly ticks all the boxes - not only is it in a fantastic location, the hotel is in great condition, the staff are very helpful and friendly and the rooms are very comfortable and quiet. I was really ill during my stay so very much appreciated how hassle-free everything was. I did, however, think that the continental breakfast was very expensive for what was offered, so be sure to get a rate where breakfast is included. Overall, I'd say this hotel is good value for money.
