Convenient and well located hotel. But for a 4-star hotel, and in 2009, I think it's a bit weird and mean not tohave a free internet cnnection, and have quite a high price for it.

The Melia was perfect for our three day visit. The staff were always helpful and pleasant. The room was spacious and comfortable. Everything was spotless. The location could not have been better for all the sights of the city and was only yards from the S-Bahn and U-bahn station. Overall, we were most impressed.

I nearly booked another hotel but found this for less money. Great interior, comfortable room. Even on main road room was quiet. The location is ideal for seeing Berlin - we walked to Museum Island, Brandenberg Gate, Reichstag (well worth the queue). Great staff at hotel, really helpful, even had plasters for the blisters.

I had booked 'the level' room but I ended up being upgraded to a junior suite, which was the start of an excellent few days in Berlin. The hotel and it's staff were fantastic, everything was lovely and the hotel just felt safe and full of qaulity. The only downside was the tapas resturant that is part of the hotel melia, the food was awful (Germans trying to be Spanish) other than that it truely was a beautiful, comfy and safe hotel in a fantastic location right in the heart of Berlin.

The Melia Berlin was outstanding and gorgeous! It was very modern and well-kept. It was within walking distance of The Brandenburg Gate and only a short taxi ride to the main train station. A couple of the front desk associates were not too quick on the uptake, but the concierge spoke perfect English and was very helpful. The business center had the option to automatically set the language to English. The room was quiet even though a busy street with lots of shopping and eats was just outside. The Melia Berlin was fabulously ecologically friendly too! The room key must be placed in a slot by the front door to keep the lights on (the senior citizen traveling with me did not care for this though). I would definitely stay here again!

Excellent hotel right in Berlin's city center. Spanish restaurant and flair, modern rooms and friendly personnel. You'll need very deep pockets, though. Breakfast at the hotel will cost you EUR 22, so I recommend going next door to "Supergood" which offers first class breakfasts for around EUR 10. The only (but major for some) downside of this hotel is the outrageous fee for wireless internet service. They charge EUR 22 for 24hrs (around $30). The hotel should fix this as soon as possible.

Location of the hotel was second to none, near to a major train stop, next to the river, walking distance to the upmarket shops, near the nightlife centre. The room was modern, well fitted and confortable. The gym was a little basic but did have a sauna next to it. The service from the front desk was excellent, great recommendations for local places.

Thanks to the excellent service and friendlieness of the staff and the great location we had a great and relaxed time in Berlin, despite a tight travel itinerary. Positives: Great location; great room, quiet, nice amenities (fabulous buffet breakfast), very lovely exercise room and sauna), good service, good price. Negatives: almost no negatives, except they do charge an arm and a leg (and several other body parts) for internet service. There's a Starbucks down the street, and if you don't mind lugging your laptop there, the WiFi is much cheaper.

The hotel is set in an excellent area, Friedrichstrasse is served by many forms of transport from the S-Bahn, which you can use to get from Berlin-Schonefeld Airport (S9). The train station, which is situated next to the hotel can also take you to Alexanderplatz which has a big shopping arcade, the zoo and lots of other places and is very easy to use. There is also the U-Bahn which is very close to the hotel, this can be used to get to various places like Checkpoint Charlie. There are also buses and trams. We tended to walk everywhere though, a nice 10 minute walk along the River Spree brings you to the Reichstag, then just around the corner from the Reichstag is Brandenburg Gate. There are lots of places to eat beside the River Spree, there is also a restaurant in the hotel which we didn't use. The hotel itself is very nice. The staff speak English, which is great as I do not know any, but the person I was with did. They're very helpful, asking whether you would like a room facing out onto the street or a quiet room round the back. They then give you the room keys, which are also used to activate the lift. Which is a very good security measure. We had the Comfort Room, this was all we really needed for our short stay. It has the necessities; big bed, chairs, desk, television, (expensive) minibar, cupboard and a bathroom. Overall, we had a good stay. It was set in an excellent location and it helped us get everything we needed out of the short break.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Melia. Location was very convenient near both S and U ban stops, 1 stop away from central station and within walking distance of many attractions. Breakfast was excellent and included in our room rate. Very spacious for a standard room with large bathroom, quiet even facing the street, good lighting and very clean. Front desk staff spoke fluent English and were very accommodating. Hotel has a gym, steam room and tanning bed for guest use. Internet was a bit pricey but available in the lobby. Great room and breakfast for the price paid which was significantly discounted from the hotels rates even in winter.

A very smart hotel in the centre of Berlin. A stone's throw from the famous Friedrichstrasse Banhof. The hotel offers very comfortable rooms and very relaxing public spaces. Two small complaints: although there's a mini-bar in the rooms there are no tea and coffee making facilities, secondly the WiFi network is both expensive and there's no free access that we found in the public areas. The staff however were exceptional: friendly, helpful, efficient and multi-lingual. As a base for exploring Berlin the hotel is well placed for the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag (the walk to the top of the dome is a must do especially at sunset but be prepared to wait in line), as well as the museum quarter and Alexanderplatz. Slightly further afield it a good walk to the Tiergarten and Potsdammer Platz. Overall a very comfortable hotel in a great central location which I would recommend for City-Breakers and short-stays for the various markets

A clean and modern hotel in a good location, in what was formerly East Berlin. It was ideal for our first visit to Berlin. We walked to all the major sites from here, although it may be a little far to the Zoo for some. There were high street type stores just round the corner as well as an underground station. We had a view of the river from our room and because we visited in December there were a couple of Christmas Markets also a short distance away. The Gluwein is highly recommended.

Overall, the hotel itself was very nice. I agree with other posters that the hotel staff was very rude, but I think that's an issue with Berliners in general, not necessarily the hotel staff. The location is great - on the River Spree with the boarding point for all boat trips just over the road and the Friedrichstrasse Railway Station and Underground stations just a very short walk.Checkpoint Charlie and its museum, Brandenberg Gate, Tiergarten, the Holocaust Memorial,Unter den Linden, Museum Island, The Berliner Dom, Alexander Platz and many other attractions are all within easy walking distance as are the many excellent restaurants of all nationalities on the other side of the Spree especially in Oranienburgerstrasse. The hotel cannot be faulted with excellent service from all staff encountered and everything spotlessly clean. The hotel is part of a Spanish chain which explains the somewhat incongruous but excellent Tapas Bar. Breakfast was priced at 20 euros but on checking in we were offered a chain loyalty card which gave us two for one on breakfast and at this price with the huge buffet choice it became very good value. The only minus point was that there is currently a building site opposite and trams run past the front door but the double glazing was such that very little noise penetrated. Excellent value for a very high standard and a great city centre location. We will certainly be back - next time for longer.
