Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre - Manchester

I was fairly impressed with this hotel. I just wanted a cheap and cheerful bed for the night, and this more than fit the bill. As it is a conference hotel, the staff were understandably ultra polite and very helpful. The room itself was, as I have read others say, a little on the small side. I had booked a double room, and it had a lovely and very comfortable double bed, but very little room around the bed! There was a decent sized desk (with an lcd tv on it) and chair, and that consumed much of the remaining available space. I can understand that if there were two of you, it may be a little cramped - but even so, if you're literally just there to sleep and aren't planning to spend much time in the room itself, it would still be fine. The bathroom was quite small, with a bathtub and shower head over it, but again, how much space do you need?! The hotel itself was a little dated in areas, but nothing too disastrous. Everywhere was certainly very clean, which is the main thing for me. Overall - not a good choice for a romantic getaway (but I'm sure you wouldn't choose the Manchester University campus for that) but an ideal value choice.

For everything the hotel could control, they did a fabulous job. Reception was welcoming, people were great, lovely sitting area with tea and biscuits, great breakfast, clean everything, and free wi-fi. Full marks on all of these. The conference facilities were good, and the staff always available to help you. The rooms on the other hand were not good at all. They were microscopically small. The shower ran scorching hot, or freezing cold. No conditioner - my hair was a mess, and no place to purchase anything. No gift shop or ameneties near by. But the worst part about the room, was the wall thickness. I could hear the snoring, and washroom visits of both rooms beside me, all night long. I kept having the urge to kick my partner and roll him on his side, but there was a wall between us. So if it's sleep you need, I really wouldn't go there again. If you are holding a one day conference, it's a lovely spot for it. I want to end off with though - the staff were amazing, and polite, and helpful. There was nothing they could possibly do to make those walls thicker or the room and bed bigger.
