Brilliant facilities for me with microwave and fridge which enabled me to save money on meals! Good room, internet facilities and very helpful concierge as I used buses a lot during my stay. Great situation as near bus stops, trlley, supermarket and restaurants, shopping mall. My feet never touched the ground during my 13 day stay and I would recommend this hotel to anyone! Loved the 'free' walking tour of Gaslamp area!

My wife & I very much enjoyed our stay at the Sofia. We were walking distance from everything we needed including the train station and Street Scene. The hotel was clean & comfortable and the free bottles of water were very much appreciated. The staff was excellent.

I would recommend The Sofia Hotel to anybody interested in staying in downtown San Diego. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent...right by Gaslamp and Horton Plaza. The room was clean and nicely furnished. You do sacrifice some space in the room, but that is expected with a historic boutique hotel.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Sophia. This time my wife was with me and yes it is a little small but we visit New York frequently and felt fine with it. Great staff. Location is a little iffy but I am a larger guy and do not worry about the element arround the hotel. Quick walk to the Gaslamp and you must go to the yard house that is near by.

While our room was quite small and we only had a shower (no bathtub) it was very clean and modern. The only have valet parking which is quite pricey but we were able to find parking in the area south and west of the hotel. The only problem with that is we had to either feed the meter or move by 8am, which just encouraged us to get up bright and early and on with our day.

This is a historic hotel beautifully appointed and convenient to walk to the Gaslamp district, beach and shopping and freeways. The staff was professional, friendly and helpful. The small restaurant and bar were good. Parking in the area is limited and the hotel charges $28/night for valet parking which includes "ins and outs." Surrounded by one-way streets driving around the hotel, including locating the valet parking, is a bit confusing the first time. I'll definitely check on the Sofia if my travels take me back to San Diego.

This hotel was fantastic, quaint and modern at once. We booked a stay shortly after the ComicCon, to unwind from the madness of that event, and to take advantage of the lower rates. The staff was incredibly helpful and made very attempt to satisfy requests and concerns, few as they may have been. The room (a suite in this case) was on the smaller side, but entirely sufficient in space none-the-less. The hotel is located just minutes from the area's large mall and other shopping, entertainment, and dining conveniences. The only downside I came to see was that the area has a large number of homeless that tended to be more aggressive than normal in their panhandling. I don't say this to sound cruel or greedy (I in fact bought a coffee/food here or there for a few), but it really was sufficient enough to take note of and start planning routes to avoid them. Hardly the Sofia's problem, but something to take note of if it continues.

My husband and I stayed at the Sofia for 3 nights in July and found their customer service to be excellent. Everyone from the Reception staff to doormen to the waiters at their fabulous restaurant went out of their way to help us with any request. We had a Queen room which was comfortable although nothing particularly special. Free internet access in the Business Centre was a bonus for me as I did not take my laptop with me. The hotel location was excellent - close to shops, dining and easy access to transport. We would stay again.

Rooms were clean and well decorated but very small. The Queen bed took the entire rooms space. The shower was very small and the shower door was small and leaked water all over the bathroom floor. The bed was not as comfortable as it looked and pillows were small. The other huge downfall was the parking, if you have a car you have to valet and it is $28/day!!

This was our first time staying at this hotel and it was more than what I expected. We have a toddler who needs a spacious area to be comfortable and this place delivered. I am a clean freak and the room definitely met my standards. Our child felt at home and was very happy staying in the suite. I would absolutely recommend this place for those looking for more than a cheap stay in a less than acceptable hotel. The proximity to Seaport Village made it very convenient.

I would return to the Sofia in the future. It is recommended however, that they provide outreach and care to their clients. For example, it is not reasonable in today's hotels to charge for internet access in the rooms. In addition, small customer care items such as cookies in the lobby or happy hour in the restaurant/bar were noticeably missing. Please be aware that the breakfasts are very greasy, undercooked and will have you running to the bathroom. Room 429, July 12-15, 2009

I would recommend staying at the hotel. The hotel from the outside looks very rustic and old but the rooms are very modern and contemporary feel and look. The only issue I did have was the valet parking. They charge $28 for over night and they messed up my car. My car back latch for the trunk access is broken and there is a certain way to open my trunk. The trunk seem like it was tampered. For $28 I would have expected my car to be parked in a safe area. Overall stay at the hotel was great. They allow late check out and the guest service people are friendly.

The room was pretty small. I would definitely make sure that you have a room with a view of the city, not a brick wall. The window in our room looked out to a brick wall that was about 3 feet away - looking into another room. It made the small room even more clausterphobic. Other than that, the staff was very nice and the hotel is in a great location with a lower price than other hotels in downtown SD.

I got the room for 50% off. It was totally worth it. The room was small, but very nice. The shower is a little odd, but didn't bother me. I didn't have any problems with noise, but I've read other reviews that said that was a problem. My main complaint is that you have to pay $10/day for wireless in your room. Seems a little silly to me, but they do have free WiFi in the lobby. The gym and yoga room are free.
