"Average Hotel"

Arrived early in the morning & allowed into room although it had not been cleaned from previous guest! Yuk! Toilet room only had a curtain (no door) & was very small. Toilet also had to be flushed 3 times & there was always a 'bit of a smell'. Shower also very small. Room was cleaned every day & was left fresh enough but overall could be doing with a bit of paint and tidy up. Having said all that, the location was great, hotel owner was very pleasant & is just about what you would expect for a budget hotel.

Au Royal is a good value for the money, not luxurious but very comfortable and cute - no elevator, though, so if you mind carrying your luggage upstairs you might want to look for another place. The room had a ceiling fan, so it was cool even in the summer, and I thought it was even kind of large for french hotel standards. The bathroom was a little small, but ok. Staff was friendly, allowed us to leave our luggage there after check out while we walked around the town prior to our departure. No smoking allowed, but that wasn't a problem for us. It's within walking distance to the medieval town (15m), near the bridges, and also within walking distance to the train station - 10m or so (but then again, we are used to walking in our trips). We were traveling on a budget so we didn't care about room service or other hotel services, we just wanted a good, clean and comfortable place to sleep and shower. Loved the medieval town, Carcassonne is a great place to visit.

Good receptionist services, and typical French City Centre 2 Star Hotel. No reception service after 19:00 hours and front of Hotel not signed or illuminated at night. Room 20 was comfortable, with adequate en-suite facilities

This is a pleasant, comfortable hotel with very friendly and helpful staff who gave us some very good restaurant recommendations. Equidistant to the medieval Cite and the Gare, so ideal for travellers on foot.

The location of this hotel was excellent. Half way between the new town and the old town. My room was spacious and very clean. The receptionist was very friendly. Great value for money. I would be disappointed if I couldn't return to this hotel on my next visit to Carcassonne.

Comentado por un huésped de Hotels.com el nov 18, 2008.
We selected this hotel as it was inexpensive and a bit out of the more touristy area. the staff was exceptionally nice, humoring my friend's attempts in less than perfect french even though they spoke english perfectly. the room was adequate though we wished there had been some sort of fan or air in the bathroom (there was only a heater). and it was a bit noisy at night since it was located on a main street. but overall, we were happy.

The Hotel Royal is very central, close to the Cité and between the Canal du Midi and the Aude River. There are many restaurants close by, going towards the canal. The room I was in was very clean and rather large for a french room. It was spotless and very comfortable. There was no lift and the stairs were steep, but beautiful examples of art deco architechture

Really good location for both visiting the old city and the new. Good value for money and the staff were very helpful. The room we had was on the front - noisy, but very, very clean if in need of refurb.

I'd read other reviews before choosing this hotel. I think the grumblers want Ritz standards for hostel prices. This hotel is 5 mins walk from the station (save a taxi fare) and ten from the bridge to the old city: very convenient. Breakfast a tad pricey at 8 euros: but for the money it was superb value. Highly recommended if you want a good budget hotel.

Very clean. Owners/staff very friendly and helpful. Great location! In spite of being located on a main bulevard it was quiet at night. No air conditioning but the ceiling fan helped. Even on hot summer nights there was a nice breeze.

Comentado por F, deWirral,UK., el jun 15, 2008
We found that the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and spoke good English. A previous traveller mentioned that there was a resident cat and dog, although animal lovers ourselves there was a very evident 'doggy' smell upon entry to the premises which may put off some people but didn't really bother us as the hotel itself was very clean. The location of the hotel was both good for proximity to the ancient city but at night it was bad as it was on a main road and the constant noise of traffic all night did disturb our sleep. Overall though, cheap and cheerful and ideal for those on a budget looking for a quick break.

This hotel is located in between the medieval city and the new town centre. Very easy to get to from the train station. My room was clean, the decor was a little old and the shower head needed replacing but I was happy with everything. The TV had BBC World as one of the channels. The dining room was nice and there was a vending machine for chocolate & drinks but no coffee making facilities in the room. This is a friendly hotel (there's a resident dog & cat) and fine for a short break.
